Very nice. Seems you've got a good ear for the "sad" stuff yourself. Everything going all right over there? That was a little bit heavier than your usual picks.

Here something completely different just to mix things up some:

I do, sometimes.
Neh, not very good. Actually pretty bad, lol.

And you?

Thanks, I'll check them out later. Kinda not in the mood to listen to long talks right now.

Not sure I posted this one before. http://youtu.be/afXmXWlMhIs

Sorry to hear that. It's not much consolation, but I really like that last track.

Here's one I'm not sure if I already
posted either: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKAsuvwDP_Q

As for me, well, two days of low-grade migraines and it's been raining in my bathroom since this morning thanks to a broken pipe in the apartment upstairs. Lots of hammering going on up there while they're sorting it all out. It isn't really helping much.

Things could definitely be worse though.

Done Too Soon
(Neil Diamond)

quote:

Jesus Christ, Fanny Brice
Wolfie Mozart and Humphrey Bogart
And Genghis Khan
And on to H. G. Wells

Ho Chi Minh, Gunga Din
Henry Luce and John Wilkes Booth
And Alexanders King and Graham Bell

Ramar Krishna, Mama Whistler
Patrice Lumumba and Russ Colombo
Karl and Chico Marx
Albert Camus,

E. A. Poe, Henri Rousseau
Sholom Aleichem and Caryl Chessman
Alan Freed and Buster Keaton too

And each one there
Has one thing shared
They have swayed beneath the same sun
Looked up in wonder at the same moon
And wept when it was all done
For bein' done too soon
For bein' done too soon
For bein' done

Brontex,

omg sorry I toootally missed your last post. D:

Glad you enjoyed the song! It's a pretty cool band. ..when you got the blues, hah.

Oh yeah, Goldfrapp is really nice, thanks.

And holy cow, is your bathroom better now?? That's awful. :/
Migraines are not fun. They usually have some psychosomatic cause to them, though. Perhaps you could look into that and see if you find something.

By the way, I've watched the first vid (well, listened to it, rather). Interesting stuff. I wasn't surprised, to be honest. It's the kind of thing that doesn't even faze me anymore, and I don't think they're lies either.

I've looked into the Mel's hole thing and whoaaa that's quite insane. Not sure what to think of that one. D:

There's something I sort of want to share but it seems a bit inappropriate, lol.
It's a funny song for when you're feeling down. I think it's hilarious, but maybe I'm weird. Don't click if you don't like profanities, rofl. (Special thanks to Cappy who showed me this.)
---

Ellyn,

thanks for the song, it's the type of song that illuminates one's day for a little while, hehe.

Glad you liked it.

Really, it's quite incomplete without the follow-up.

Of course, I prefer the precursor.

To be Perfectly Honest, this is the one I was first In Search Of. (In Honour of the Season.)

But this one is nice.

No worries---you didn't miss much. (Other than my briefly posted contact info before I edited it out ) Plus it sounded like you had some stuff to deal with at the time. Glad you seem to be feeling a little better.

My bathroom is fine now. Finally. It took a few days to get it fixed though. Kinda sucked. The migraines are unfortunately most definitely not psychosomatic. (Long personal and family history.) I don't get them very often anymore but it used to be an almost monthly occurrence. I think this last time I was just dehydrated and not taking in enough caffeine.

Ha. Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous and completely unbelievable. It's still one of my favorites though. I tend to think of it as more of a "campfire story" than an actual conspiracy theory.

But thanks for sharing, DORK

EDIT:
I might have already posted it, but I like this album a lot when I need to lighten up a little: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0e67IqMoz4M .
Admittedly, it is probably a lot easier enjoy/appreciate if you watch this first.

Quite funny, actually. Leo season indeed.
It feels like it's Autumn here, though. I wear sweaters and socks at home. Bleh.

You're quite into Neil, huh? He was a pretty talented guy. Not my type of thing usually but I can appreciate it sometimes, hehe.

I was telling my kid about a book I read at her age called "The Troublemaker."

I used to listen to that album a bit, and it just happened to have that same line-up in it.

"Done Too Soon" and "He Ain't Heavy, He's my Brother."

Between that and Ami pulling that one up in the dedications, it was on my mind.

So.....

When I was trying to think of a good Leo song, it came to mind.

Silly Song.

Had Leonard Cohen, too.

This one wasn't bad. Everyone I loaned it to stole them both...

I'd have to run them down through three people They loaned it to...

Leo(nard) Cohen, how fun! See what I did there? ...no? It's okay, that was a silly word play (or whatever you call it).

Actually, Hallelujah is one of my all time favorite songs, but I like Jeff Buckley's version the most. Kiiiiills.

Jeff has a lot of songs I enjoy. I don't listen to him often but when I do, damn, the feels.

Well, I missed your post (or *had missed*? Err, tenses are complicated sometimes). That's not nothing. Do you mean you (had..?) included your email? Mine's on here for everyone to see, you can find it in the Brown Owl's Forum by clicking on my username, or just check my profile, I've included it there (I actually take it down sometimes but for now it's visible). Feel free to shoot me an email, or we can continue in this thread, both are fine with me.

And thanks, I'm doing a little better, I suppose. It's a bit hard to understand. Haha.

Phew, good news about the bathroom. Now you can pee and/or shower safely.
Ah, that sucks about the migraines. You sure caffeine doesn't make it worse? (Eh, I bet I sound like an annoying Virgo-type right now.)

We never know. I say, this world is full of weird and mysterious things, and if I can't prove something, well I can't disprove it either.

Heeey, I'm not a dork! I'm supah cool, yo. (Unless dork is a positive term. Then yes, I'm a dork. Sometimes.)

What the heck is up with that Sun Ra guy! Now that was weird... You're really into bizarre things, aren't you.
"Saturn" presents... *gasp* It's a sign! Saturn's talking to me via indirect messages! Whoaa.
No but really, that was pretty cool. Jazz can be nice. I especially like live concerts with life performances, they tend to be very enjoyable, late at night in particular. There's a place here in my city where there's sometimes jazz gigs in open air (not completely visible though because they're part of a restaurant) and it's very cool.

Now let me introduce you to ambient synth music.
Best at night, when you're semi-high, almost falling asleep, eyes closed and prone to natural hallucina... I mean, try to enjoy. (It's probably not something you're used to, although I'm not entirely sure.) http://soundcloud.com/soularorder/you-are http://soundcloud.com/qelaion/qelaion-saudade http://soundcloud.com/the-izzard/airways http://soundcloud.com/bijoudream/naaiv-wip-1
(Uh yeah that's quite a few songs, sowwy for the overload; sleepless Doux is sorta bored.)

Awesome. I already knew about the whole Mods email thing, but thought it might be a little presumptuous to just send you one out of the blue. That said, the other day it kinda sounded like you might like to vent using lots and lots of very unladylike language and it seemed like a good reason to take things elsewhere for a change. It's fun posting here of course, but I'll go ahead and send you an email just so you have mine kicking around for future use.

*And "had" is a tricky one there. I wouldn't use it in that case, but might if I were listing a series of past tense events or was transitioning past tense actions into current tense actions.

"I had missed the bus and decided that I might as well take the day off to relax and read a book."

But you speak multiple Romance languages, so STFU about tenses being "complicated."

What are you, my mother?
It helps in small regular doses. Regulates blood flow and decreases the delivery time of pain meds. I think that's why they put it in most over-the-counter migraine pills. It's also good for MSG headaches after eating too much cheap Chinese food.

No, I meant that "literally"---as in you're a giant whale dong. Ha. Just kidding. Mostly.
That's just a myth. It doesn't really mean that.
But either way, yes, it's a positive.

Yeah, I think Sun Ra and Mel might have the same supplier.

That place in your city sounds cool. There's a surprisingly decent live/underground jazz down here. Albums are nice, but there's no substitute for the real thing.

That's a nice lineup. Thanks. Some of it reminds me of the Angels of the Universe (Englar alheimsins) soundtrack by Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson and Sigur Rós. Or you've probably heard of Tangerine Dream and Vangelis -- they've both been around forever -- but their stuff can be pretty hit or miss.

Think it was "Bird on a Wire."

I don't know, but my thoughts on the matter go like this.

Now if you read the lyrics to "Bird on the Wire," you will note a reference to Freedom.

If you read the Liner Notes to "Tap Root Manuscript" (as I have done, especially when I was a child) you will understand that Neil Diamond; himself a Leo, I am guessing, was not averse to the practice of hovering in the back rows of the Harlem Churches, listening to the Music.

This actually led to the disk in question, he wrote "The African Trilogy" long before others came to do the same sort of thing.

Perhaps Robert Mckay's Authorship was Inspired by him in that context.

Mere surmise on my part.

Thought about it last night, and remembered that Leonard Cohen was in the other book as well.

"Suzanne" for sure.

"Tales of Brave Ullyses" was one.

Can't remember the Poems they compared them with, though.

Another reason I have to get those books back.

Now that I know the Songs.

Ellyn,

Here's for you: The Raveonettes - Young And Cold

Hope you'll like it.

Haa. They're still complicated.

Oh dear, I don't know, perhaps I am your mother. *gasp* (technically that's impossible, but you know life is a weird thing, so...)
Well, alright then. You know better. Hopefully you won't overdose on caffeine and painkillers though, that'd be quite a shame. And learn how to cook delicious stuff instead of eating cheap Chinese food! (oh no, here's the mommy part again)

quote:
No, I meant that "literally"---as in you're a giant whale dong. Ha. Just kidding. Mostly.

That was funny, thanks for the laugh.
*looks at herself* nope, not a 'whale dong'. Just a regular human being. With a few oddities here and there.

quote:
Yeah, I think Sun Ra and Mel might have the same supplier.

Haha, probably. It'd be interesting to get some of that stuff and see where it leads. Creative inspiration powa.

I hadn't heard of Tangerine Dream nor Vangelis, interesting sounds... Spacey, to say the least!
I really enjoyed the Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson and Sigur Rós collaboration for the movie... Sigur Rós is pretty amazing to begin with, so it was no surprise. Thanks for sharing. (Scandinavian movies can be soooo depressing though! Oh my.)
-

Mount Kimbie - Cold Spring Fault Less Youth (album) (tracks 5, 6, and 7 are my personal favorites) (this is sorta different)
Trifonic - Good Enough (Instrumental)

Well, within a couple of hours, I will have them both once again.

Do you know what a Deja Vu moment it is to see a book of your youth reincarnate unexpectedly in your teen age Son's room?

It was Strange.

But now I will have double copies.

To be doubly lended out, no doubt.
