It might look that way, but they aren't trashing our parks. The main stream news media has printed sensational journalistic articles slandering the movement and the participants. Spend a day with the protesters, partake in a unbiased discussion with them you'll discover a great deal about this growing movement. These are people who were investment bankers, union workers, college graduates, lawyers, engineers, nurses, doctors, teachers, artists, students etc. Dedicated citizens like you and myself who have united to challenge an inefficient and ineffective political and economic system. Speak to the protesters, listen to their stories and let them speak their truth.

The mainstream media is controlled by corporate media conglomerates who are only concerned with serving their own political agendas. They cannot be trusted to provide unbiased and objectively ethical news. Critics should by all means attend a local Occupy protest close to their area. Spend time with the protesters and get the full story.

Well, at least in New York, it got so filthy that the park owner almost had to close it and clear everyone out to make it sanitary. Why do you say "were"? Did they quit their jobs?

I say "were" because many lost their jobs or got laid off and have taken a break from the dead end job hunt that exists in our failing financial system. Many activists worked in non profits and on other grassroots campaigns but lost their jobs as a result of lack in financial funding. Some are still working professionals who've taken time off to protest and others protest during non working hours. Others are current college students supporting the cause between classes and recent college graduates who are being faced with a job market that has little to offer them if anything and are choosing to speak out against the injustice. The stories are endless and particular to each individual participating in the movement.

Professors from New School University, New York University, Fordham University and many other universities in NYC have taken time to join in on the marches, speaking in favor of the movement as well as donating to support the cause. Ignore the news, go see for yourself.

Aw, that's a shame. Well it's a joy to see others enthusiastic about this global movement. Your input is valued and appreciated, don't be a stranger .

The ballot box That's quaint, Randall. Who owns your ballot boxes? Who funds and props up your candidates? You can get back to me on that.

quote:
Even the Obama administration wants nothing to do with them . That says a lot. They are far from the 99 percent.

Sure does say a lot. Tells me they haven't been co-opted yet. Tells me Obama and his evil minions are having as hard a time hiting a moving target as the Repubs are. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, Randall.
And the farther away Pelosi stays the better. She's no friend of the people.

quote:
To me, it just looks like people trashing our parks. Why don't they pick up after themselves? And they claim part of the movement is about the environment? I'm sure the New York winter will clear them out.

Is that really all you see? That makes me genuinely sad.

I understand that public safety, unhygienic living conditions, etc are a legitimate concern. Nevertheless, I'm surprised by the lengths to which the protesters have gone to keep the sites peaceful, non violent, and clean. They are picking up after themselves. No, it isn't deluxe accomadations out there. Nor should it be. Please remember that many of the protesters are sleeping at the camps, vs the weak kneed and media coddled Tea Party folk who went home to their warm beds every night. Perhaps we should laud these demonstrators for their commitment? It's cold out there, Randall. Two Denver protesters were recently hospitilized with hypothermia. And people say Americans are soft!

As for "our parks", Zuccotti park isn't "ours." It's owned by one of those friendly multinational parasites the occupiers are protesting. Check it out -

http://articles.nydailynews.com/2011-10-14/local/30299544_1_world-finan cial-center-grants-zuccotti-park

Fitting that the NYC protest be held there, I think. Because everyday more and more of "our" property is is being handed over to private corporations. Additionally, you might be interested to note that the Mayor's long term girlfriend is on Brookfield's BOD. But this is how the game is played, my friend.

Anyway, wasn't it your man Rumsfield who reminded us that "sometimes democracy is messy?"

yes, hi, T, good to see you and hope this means you are doing very well too!

yes zucotti park is private property. and yes the protesters clean up after themselves.

but you see, when journalists who try to actually cover the story ON SITE are arrested and beaten (one could say SYTEMATICALLY AND THROUGH ENTRAPMENT PRACTICES) how do you expect to get the story straight?

and how do you judge the protesters when on the spot reporting is punishable by said imprisonment and assault?

as for using the ballot as a weapon, i don't suppose you have heard that ballot-by-machine is a thoroughly UNtrustworthy way of making one's voice heard. a recent election - was it ohio? - was close and when the SAME MACHINES RECOUNTED they came up with a very different result.

are you sure you want your vote to be counted using the current system? are you sure it WILL be counted? this is PART of what needs to change, though i realize this is a RADICALLY LEFTIST DEMAND!

"It might look that way, but they aren't trashing our parks."

Huh? What?

Occupy L.A.: 30 tons of debris left behind at City Hall tent city.

Huh? What?

30 TONS of discarded debris ISN'T "trash"?

"Sanitation officials said Wednesday that they expect to haul away 30 tons of debris from the Occupy L.A. encampment —everything from clothing to heaps of garbage to oddball curiosities left behind by the protesters who lived at the City Hall tent city for two months.

Andrea Alarcon, president of the city Public Works board, said workers already have removed 25 tons of belongings from the City Hall park, all of it heading straight to a landfill.

Sanitation crews also have vacuumed up about 3,000 gallons of water that had washed into a catch basin in recent days and are testing it for hazardous materials, she said."

I made that statement in reference to Occupy Wall Street in New York, most specifically Zuccotti Park. The information in reference to Occupy LA is recent news.

Jwhop, unless you were actually at the site, and saw the excess debris" first hand, I don't take your sources or comments in disagreement with my comment to be valid.

since the LA site was raided and evacuated under pressure by the cops, if anything was left behind it was because people had no time or opportunity to take it with them/dispose of it. ******** response jwhop.

Let's see!

Who are we to believe here; YOU...or our lying eyes?

WHAT A DUMP: The Sanitation Department’s Manhattan District Building overflows yesterday with mountains of debris left behind by Occupy Wall Street protesters in Zuccotti Park.

Conditions just ‘offal’
By REBECCA ROSENBERG and DAN MANGAN
Last Updated: 3:38 AM, November 16, 2011
Posted: 2:22 AM, November 16, 2011

City sanitation workers yesterday were forced to pick through a filthy pile of property seized from Zuccotti Park including dirty hypodermic needles, moldy food and glass-littered, broken gadgets.

“I pick up garbage [for a living], and these were some of the worst smells I’ve ever experienced,’’ one worker grumbled to The Post.

About 150 trashmen stuffed the massive pile of soiled tents, old bikes and spoiling food into dump trucks — 26 loads in all — and hauled it to a West 57th Street Sanitation facility so that workers could begin sorting the personal goods from garbage.

Occupy Wall Street protesters with proper ID can go to the facility this morning to get back their property.

As 10 unlucky Sanitation workers sorted the trash from reclaimable goods, they steered clear of a sealed pickle bucket which they suspected was filled with human waste.

Among the trash were clothes, suitcases, papers, plywood, books, laptop computers, smeared peanut-butter jars, cables, wire and shoes.

Many items were damaged, such as a bent laptop and two busted guitars.

Two protesters yesterday got to reclaim their stuff, but Sanitation workers soon cut off access because there was so much broken glass mixed in with the items.

before OWS zucotti park was home to the homeless. NO ONE COMPLAINED. during OWS it was also home to the homeless, who smelled food and other goodies and increased their numbers there.

when one is dragged off by the hair, pepper sprayed and beaten to the ground before hitting the paddy wagon floor, it is unlikely that you will wipe up after yourself.

but again more third hand observations. not to worry, the military will soon be on the streets to take care of each and every one of them. a wet dream come true, eh?

Jwhop,

I repeat, unless you were THERE and snapped those shots for whatever news media organizations you're siting, I'm sticking to my original statement. I don't follow the mainstream news and I work for a news media organization. I can tell you first hand that the news media intentionally distorts the truth in favor of their own political and financial agendas. They may not tell you how to think but they do tell you what to think about. They are trying to SELL NEWS! And if they want to slander Occupy Wall Street through sensational journalism then they will because they can.

As someone who works for a news media organization I say to you: DON'T TRUST THE NEWS! If you want accuracy and truth go see for yourself and then we can discuss the situation at the parks.
