Lmao @ what Faith said about the wheat grass and cake as chaser.
Sounds as if we have much in common and starting to sound like we're sweet deprived or something.

Carrot cake is DELICIOUS, even the muffins.

I was bad and had chocolate pudding for breakfast. It was waaaaaaay overdue and killed the craving for anything else.
Now I'll have to live off cucumbers and spinach for the rest of the week.. J/P!

...malt vinegar like the English do it?

And my Sag son likes to eat hamburgers this way: bread, meat, stack of fries, bread. He always does it the same way, maybe because Saturn is conjunct his Taurus ASC. 'Loves food, loves order and routine just as much.

Pudding sounds good! I'm eating 70% dark chocolate, it's kind of like pudding (while it's in my mouth. )

This thread is making me hungry.

Would you like a chip roll?

Potatoes have no idea how good they taste. Lol!

Fridays were traditionally fish and chip day in the Cape. Salt and vineger chips with fish on rolls.
Mum used to rather make it herself. She said the fisheries made theirs too greasy (true) and she would make salad to go with the meal.

I caved and had one small jacket potato with butter and cheese tonight - I don' remember the last time i did that. It was so good. Which is why I shouldn't have done it. I want another one.

@charmaine

You're so psychic, I was going to ask you what you ate growing up! Or is it our ASC-moon conjunction at work here?

Will you tell me more about what you ate in the Cape? I'm so curious.

LOL those chip rolls look truly fantastic, and here I thought I was finished craving bread.

I lived in England for a semester and really miss the fish and chips, especially the freshly-caught fish sold under tents right by the river. They sold it in aluminum foil packages that were scalding hot. You know something is delicious when you repeatedly burn your hands just to eat it.

@teasel

YUM

I can already tell I'm going to be eating greasy potatoes today....looking forward to it!

Where you there on vacation?

In winter we generally ate stews and puddings. Sundays were a combination of indian dishes and "soul food" (fried chicken and all that). Strangely now, I can't tolerate food which is too hot although we were basically immune to the sting of curries. It's definitely a no no now.

Fresh fruits and veggies were also an important part of our diet but to me sweets were.

A bean stew with tripe and trotters was quite popular in certain areas; we never ate that though.

LOL I was just talking to you in Sweet Peas and was going to say, "See you in H&H soon!" but I figured I would get here before you read that. Guess I'm not fast enough!

And you know I was busy brawling with the tough GU2 crowd last night...whew!

Anyway. I was shivering a bit when I read about people eating tripe. I was practically hiding under the bed sucking my thumb at the mention of "trollop." WHAT is trollop? You know in English it means a trashy woman, but I'm sure you don't put them in stews!

Please tell me what trollop is!

Edit: Oh my goodness, you didn't say trollop, you said "trotters." Well that doesn't sound any better to me but I'm embarrassed at my crazy mix-up now! Even though it's kind of funny, me thinking of trollops. It's an old word.

----
About my journey to England, that was a study abroad program that my college offered. 13 students from my college studied in London for a month, then we attended the University of Essex for a few months. I arrived in London a few days before Princess Diana died so I was there for all of that.

-----

I have so many questions for you...I'll try and just give you a few at a time...

I'm wondering, did you grow up seeing a lot of wild animals? Did you go on safaris? I've heard that South African women are very rugged outdoors, would you say that's true?

Now you've gone from missing me to being overwhelmed with my chatter, all in ten minutes! Sorry for swamping you

Your post made me lol!

I'll be answering in bit - hope you don't mind..I'm multi tasking and want to address everything you said.

With the more "serious" bit:
I just read in GU and with an unbiased view would like to say that I think you and pire got your wires crossed. It trurned out ok though. Pire can say off the bat things but he is outspoken like that. Even though the convo went a bit scew, he is quite a sweet person. *pire, if you read this then I hope you're not grumpy today!*

I also commend Juni. She has one of the toughest forums to mod and is quite capable of handling it quite well.

Main Entry: trol·lop
Pronunciation: \?trä-l?p\
Function: noun
Etymology: perhaps irregular from trull
Date: 1621
: a vulgar or disreputable woman ; especially : one who engages in sex promiscuously or for money

Hey missy, you made me look up this word. According to the dictionary that's the meaning of trollop. You made it sound like something to eat.
Tripe to trollop! How random.

In SA, tripe is a traditional meal in some cultures. No offence to anyone but I could not eat it, especially after being told it's sheep stomach or the lining of the stomach.
That's like an episode of Fear Factor to me.
In fact, I don't eat any animal organs either such as liver, kidneys, brain etc.

So where do you come on with "trollop"?

Haha! Those are one of the biggest misconceptions about SA. There are normal cities like anywhere else in the world. There are no wild animals running around lol! There are game farms for that.

It reminds me when foreigners would come and visit..wearing THEIR safari outfits. and then we were the ones chuckling at them.
Not true about the women either. not sure if television or media in general ate responsible for these misconceptions.
SA is very diverse with many different cultures, races and languages. There are rich, poor, middle class etc.

I have been on a few safaris in other parts of SA. It was awesome seeing rhinos and lions up close but it wasn't my cup of tea. I'm a beach baby , not very keen on extreme heat and the bushland.

So I should stop imagining you in a Sheena, Queen of the Jungle outfit, that's what you're getting at?

That's not you?

And you didn't hunt sprinkbok or have giraffes for friends....well, I'm disappointed but still think you are great.

I just read a book centered in SA a few months ago, called We Are All the Same. About a young black boy with AIDS, adopted into a more affluent white family, and through a series of events becoming famous. I just can't remember this child's name...Ngosi or something. He was an Aquarius and really broke everyone's heart. AIDS breaks my heart and I hope SA is moving beyond that plague now, though I haven't researched it at all.

I thought tripe was intestines, I thought "trotters" meant feet. I know lots of people eat feet (chicken, pig, and jaguar feet, for example) and so I imagined "tripe and trotters" as gelatinous hooves floating like dumplings in a cauldron with the tripe...looking like giant worms...underneath. But of course, as you see, I just don't understand SA or its culture much at all.

Did you grow up in an environment that was like a typical American city or suburban town?

Jeepers, you would think she'd have a niice tan for a Sheeba Queen.
Noooooo! I will never be able to hunt any animal (too much of a softy for any fluffa).

I remember that little boy..it was a heart breaking tale. There was a documentary about him and his struggle with HIV and how his adoptive parents were trying to raise awareness. I remember them announcing his death on the news and how sad it was because not only were they keeping track of him on TV, his story was in magazines too which made one feel as if you knew him. His story was a reality check for many who had misconceptions about HIV. Sadly, there still are today.

I think they have it someone under control now..but I think HIV/AIDS is a universal "plaque" - a different topic all together.

SA is basically like any other "first world" country or the only African country closest to it. The have American food chains there, clothing labels etc. Some parts of SA do have poorer rural communities where people don't even have proper water supplies, electricity etc. I hope they sorted that out by now too!

The only thing about SA that ticks me off is the politics and justice system.. Truely messed up IMO!

Oh, we (siblings included) grew up quite close to the city, and right by the beach.
We were privilaged in the sense of financial and material comforts which means jack when you don't have all love and emotional supports a kid needs and longs for..anyhow,
We were also victims of racism (multi racial marriages were frowned upon and the kids suffered the blunt of it) but it's no longer like that in SA anymore.

Hi charmaine!

LOL- I didn't notice her lack of a tan! Maybe she's under a dense jungle canopy all the time?

So are you a vegetarian or just not into hunting? If vegetarian, have you always been one? I have been mostly vegetarian just for the past four months or so and I feel better this way.

*Hug* about not having a supportive family and another *hug* about facing any kind of racism, that's terrible! I'm glad it's gotten better in SA, with respect to racism. Do you go back to visit often?

I wish I could go to SA, it sounds familiar and exotic to me at the same time. Plus I love the beach

If you do ever visit, do it during summer. It's gorgeous.

I visit like once a year. Not sure if I'll be visiting this year.

Might as well be a vegetarian since I don't eat meat very often.

You don't drink either, yes?

Ohhhh I want to travel so much! To gorgeous places like South Africa!

Is it terribly hot there in the summer? I just learned that people's blood thins in hot weather so they can adapt to the climate. Thin blood is usually healthy...I want that. Heat doesn't bother me too much, anyway.

For the past four months, I've been mostly vegetarian, except for an occasional bit of seafood. I think I will continue on this way.

I have several macrobiotic cookbooks. In one of them, the author says that poultry protein is the heaviest protein and whatever the body doesn't use settles in the pelvic region, gathering around the organs. In Chinese medicine, the health of this area of the body is shown in area between the nose and upper lip.

Your body can discharge excess protein by creating hair.

When I used to eat a lot of poultry, I had to pluck or wax my upper lip a lot. So I called that my chicken mustache. (Gross, I know. Sorry.)
But I really am excited to report my news here, that since I stopped eating chicken, I don't have that problem anymore! Victory over the chicken mustache.

I don't drink much. I might have half a glass of wine with dinner once a week, just because I think the tastes will blend well. I never get drunk anymore.

You and Randall don't drink, is that right? Is that a moral choice or health choice, may I ask?

Best wishes
