Hmm, I am a bit behind in my reading, but I'll try to catch up later this evening. I keep thinking LOQ refers to "Ladies Only" something or other, but I have to re read it, it's been since 1989 when I last read it, (I know, I should be ashamed to admit such a thing, ha ha)

Well, the only thing I could come up with is LOQ is a form of synthetic speech. Lewis Carroll wrote Jabberwocky that way. Linda goes on to write about one of the girls' mother being an English teacher, and further on she tells how she wanted to be a writer when she grew up. Prosody deals with LOQ and the meters in poetry. Well, that is my take on it, right or wrong. And, I bet Lewis Carroll was popular for young school children during that time. Linda did use a lot of his "Through The Looking Glass" quotes, better known as "Alice In Wonderland" in her books.

Oh, and for fun, here is a link to the synthetic speech poetry of Lewis Carroll.

I read Canto One the other day, but just now have time to get around to posting about it. The thing that stuck out with me the most is

"now, just remember who you are"

I'm not sure if it's because that's important to me, or because I learned that from Linda, but to me it was significant. Actually, I k-NOW it was set apart by itself and given emphasis for a reason. Especially, since after it, she says,

"and I wondered about that a lot
I mean...well, you see
just who was I...if I wasn't me?"

Since she takes off on that and the rest of the book is about her journey of re-MEMBERing, it has to be important to her upbringing. I think she set it up beautifully.

It also seemed significant that Linda said, "Love is all," and the first Canto shows that she was raised with a very supportive family, who obviously Loved her. It gave her the background to re-MEMBER and be who she was.

The thunderstorm stood out to me,too, but with a user name like Morning Storm, I'm sure that's no surprise!

Hi Everyone! I loved the first page where she wrote as telepathically channeled during the months of April,May and June in the Year of our Lord 1972. That makes this year the 30th anniversary. What a great time to have a Group Read. I also have a special place in my heart for Canto Two. Having learned of Linda's leaving her physical body since my last reading makes these magical words even more holy. ..."Be the change you want to see in the world." Gandhi

Thank You all I am glad to be here.
Last thoughts on Canto Two..Interesting about the legal marriage license of Jesus and Mary Magdalene might be buried away in the Vatican in Rome. Did Jesus later desert his wife to roam around barefoot and teach and try to reach the multitudes with miracles? Did Mary Magdalene mind being left behind or did she know this was his calling in life? Are priests of the Catholic Church forbidden to marry as a punishment or a symbolic retribution for wife-desertion?

I have the hardback edition printed in 1989. In my book it is the very first white page in the book. There is a blank yellow cover page before it. It says GOOBERZ LINDA GOODMAN then below that there is a picture of a hand giving a rose to another hand. Then it says as telepathically channeled during the months of April,May and June in the Year of our Lord. AT the bottom of the page she wrote This Work was lovingly protected by Corinne Lobo and family. I hope this helps.

Sweetpeas~ Thank you... That explains why I couldn't find it ... Although my copy does have the graphic, and has the same quote at the bottom of the page, it DOESN'T have the quote you mentioned ! I think I'm upset about that , and now wonder why it's missing from this version I purchased very recently

RE: the first page discrepency--

Indeed, I found this out a while back when I purchased a used copy in edition to my own. The first editions had this "year dedication" in it. Also, there is a different picture of Linda in the back. I have both copies, so I feel lucky. Can you believe that? A different picture. Just imagine - someone might have a different picture than you do. Both are elegant and beautiful.

Love

And I always thought my copy was a First Edition! I'm also missing the quote!

LMB, what does the other Linda pic look like? Mine has her and her cat.

Sweetpeas, that is quite a puzzlement. Is it punishment or symbolic?

It reads to me like it is almost a punishment.Notice she wrote Wife deseration, even back then, must have been called a vice no wonder the Catholic Church keeps it a secret! Notice she uses an explanation point. I might be wrong but that's just the vibe I am picking up from it. What does everyone else think?

There is a b&w photo of a closeup of her face.It is on the left side of the inside back cover. Under the photo is a small bio. She talks about her four kids. She has two dogs who are vegetarians. She mentions her favorite songs, perfume and book.
On the right back inside cover is a full page color reproduction of a oil painting by Arnenian artist,Mihram K. Serailian.
A full color poster of the painting which includes a printed identification of the areas involved in the Opening of the Third Eye,may be obtained from Philosphical Reserch Inc.(213)663-2167.
Does your book have all this? If you have a different bio let me know. The bio in this edition is great.

yes, the bios are the same, just the pictures are different. I do believe the text in the book is the same, too, although I *think* I remember talking about this with eternal and we found some alterations...not sure. No big ones, though (of course, any change would be big to us!). I wonder why they left that out of the second printing - and why the different photo??

Ah, mysteries indeed...

There was a considerable ammount of death in young Linda's life.Nanoo her maternal grandmother,Peggy Johnston her best friend, Pat her calico cat,Dadoo her paternal grandfather,Jerry Jones her young love and Dado her maternal grandfather.
At the tender age of thirteen Linda had already set two examples for us to follow, always be SELFLESS and to LOVE all living things.
You can't force Life and people to rhyme-all the time only when they blend naturally into the same phonetic symphony of sound.

ALL RIGHT!!!! Canto three is one of my favorites

Especially how we see a saturn seven in action with Jerry and Charles. How we all can identify with the silly and stupid things we did as teens...and how embarassed we were when they backfired.

I like how her 'cappy' Nana stood up for Linda. How we see the beginning of her quest to learn the 'real' secret behind the Easter miracle.

And tho I cried and cried when Jerry died...and Dado too...I loved what she did with the 'ant' money from Dado.

And I absolutely the opening
HYMN TO SHAKTI by Kyril Demys

Yep...my favorite Canto as it is the one I identify with the most

Thanks for posting your thoughts, YIVY! I will get to read it tomorrow. No matter how hard Linda tried, sadness and gladness can never rhyme.

Ah...yes they can when you finally learn to the 'sadness' as much as the 'gladness'. For I found out you can't have one without the other.

How would we know we were ever glad if we never knew it's TWIN, sad. It's the two -ss- in each word that have confused us. And if you mix the two you can come up with the word GLASSES. So I guess it all depends on the way you look at it.

I think that is a great idea!!! I read it 15 or 16 and it had a profound effect on me. I think it will be fun to read it now (with my growing up and all. . .yeah right) and see how my perspective might change. I might not be able to keep up (with grad school and all) but i will try to. Thanks for the open invite to join in!!
