Gooober, darling, funny Lion-face
sailing all alone out there

just so you will know, if I should ever have to go
I have written for you not a poem... but a prayer

I will hide it softly, like a secret
here in our little, crooked, slipping-off-the-time-track-house
so maybe someday, you will find it
and understand, then, the way I love you
how deep .. and why

I hope it doesn't make you cry
for perhaps we'll never have to say goodbye
but will leave this Earth together
like you promised .. that time in your letter

until then ..

when I lay me lonesome down to sleep
I say this Oober prayer

God bless the silent planet Saturn in you
with its rays of silvery-wise
that shine out tiny stars to guide me
from the windows of my soul .. your eyes

God bless the baby in you
the small boy, hiking
the man of passion, who gentles me and trembles me
and the other, holy one

God bless each and every you, within your Temple, living there
each other half of every me
all those I know .. and knew
which, when joined together
become the always and eternal Us..
the Forever Me-of-You
that makes your heart reach out to mine
and mine ti yours .. across an ocean or a room
to pull us back into each other

even when we've torn ourselves so far apart
that you look up to wish for me ..
upon the mid-day Sun
at the same time I look up to wish for you
upon the midnight Moon

God bless your skin and hair perfume,
so well remembered, memorized
from centuries of touching, trusting you
my own twin

that tells me you are home
within the circle of my arms.. complete
with all your scattered pieces whole

so when I lay me down to sleep
I pray to you my soul to keep
asking you to keep it safe
all through our Earth-lived night

but ..

if I should die before I wake
I'll pray to our Mother and Father Who art in Heaven
my soul to take

while I'm all alone and frighted .. lost
till I find my way back home to you
and hear your chord of music
calling me through Time and Space
then smell your cheek, and touch your face
and tumble back inside your arms
once again .. Forevermore

--------------------------------------------
Prayer indeed is good, but while calling on
the gods a man should himself lend a hand.

"I have been entirely too Pollyanna-perfect lately
munching healthy lettuce, drinking carrot juice
not wearing much make-up .. no false lashes anymore
taking my vitamins every day, and doing Yoga head stands
no Excedrin or coffee .. or cigarettes
not even slamming a door .. no Big Bangs at all

the Earth vibrates these days, they say
to such a negative frequency
that one who is ultra-sensitive in any way
must adopt a vice or two
to keep one's molecules from flying apart
.. exploding into space

and I wouldn't want that to happen
because I wouldn't know in which direction to fly .. to find you" Page 834

I finally finished Canto Nineteen. Sorry about the delay. In this Canto, we find Linda trying to make sense out of Brewer leaving by using numerology. What a numerology Lesson we all get to experience as Linda spirals! I learned from Linda that in emergency situations, one can reduce a Master Number to find the hidden message(s) within. We learn about Heathcliff and why Linda had to painfully give him up. We also see Brewer giving Linda a paper mache copy of Linda's beloved sheep dog (which will play a mjor role in Canto Twenty).

"yes, you knew about loving things .. and losing them
because you love them too much to hurt them anymore" Page 830

Well, we are almost at the end. Everything in these last Nineteen Cantos have been to create a special closeness with the reader and Linda. A bond of trust is formed. This is necessary, because it all leads to Canto Twenty, which is where we learn all the many secrets of the Uni-verse that have been kept from the masses for centuries. Linda needed a special bond of trust within us before we were ready to learn what is to come (for some of the revelations will be unbelievable to the unitiated).

"we spoke on the phone of the hideous practice
of those who in-breed Dobermans

deliberately training them, as well as breeding them
to posses the killer instinct -- and to "go for the throat"
eventually causing them to even turn against their own masters

and breeding this carefully into ... their small
puppies
fat-tummy puppies

you told me this need not be so
for you once owned a Doberman yourself

a Dobermnan ? .. a snake ?

and you said you trained your Doberman
to be gentle and loving to smaller creatures
really .. to all creatures .. including humans

when I doubted this, you mailed me a polaroid photograph
of your Doberman .. a picture you took yourself
seated on his head were two pet pigeons
doves of peace
who were his best friends .. timid birds

sitting trustingly on the head

of a "vicious" Doberman

.. and tears stung in my eyes
when I looked at the photograph you sent

for I knew ..

you were trying to teach me
that anything -- or anyone -- like Anubis-Dobermans
can learn to love

if anything or anyone
is forgiven
even Set even Satan
even all of us
on Earth" Pages 842-843

I've read Gooberz three times now and there is always something hidden between the lines that I don't pick up on until the next time I read it; when the time is right! Exercises the brain muscle.
