Loved seeing the pictures, Charlotte.
Since I am only an hour away and visit Nashville so often, it feels a little bit like "home" to me too!

I love seeing all the pictures; very interesting!

Beautiful pics everyone and what lovely places you all live in!

Here's a picture of Lincoln Cathedral which was used a lot for the Da Vinci Code film

and another one facing up the hill from the West common which is where I live

and this is Castle Square at night - we have a Christmas market in the square that reaches through the streets and into the castle every year and it's great. Loads of continental food stalls and crafts etc.

Here's a view of the river that runs through the centre of the city and the shopping centres either side. Apparently, Robin Hood used to come to a shop that was on the right hand side of the river there to buy his 'Lincoln Green' cloth

This is the 'Steep Hill' area of the city which does exactly what it says on the tin! It's a very steep climb! All old buildings, Medieval, Georgian and Victorian and it's full of tea rooms, pubs and posh dress shops!

and here's the castle which houses the Magna Carta which I believe is touring the USA next year

and finally a picture of the Buckinghamshire countryside where I grew up - I lived just down the road from Penn which is a tiny village named after William Penn who was of course the founder of Pennsylvania

Cardinal: You have that view?! The cathedral is beautiful. Wow. I love the little quaint street.

mystical: You live pretty close to me.

Hi 1scorp

I live in a house just beyond the ones you can see in the photo but sadly I don't have the view from my windows My house is in the wrong position for that. I think I'm very lucky to live in Lincoln though, as it's gorgeous.

I see.

The picture of the country side is nice also. It makes me want to kick my shoes off and feel the grass on my feet.

If you ever get the urge to have a house guest, give me a call

Cardinal, what a truly beautiful city! You know London is my favorite place that I have ever visited and every time I see pictures of the UK, I feel a little bit sad. I would LOVE to live there; I don't know why but I feel so positive and upbeat there..... it's hard to put in words. The only thing that has kept me from moving is the thought of being so far away from my family...

1scop, that's cool; where do you live if you don't mind me asking?

All the pictures are awesome!

I can't remember who posted Canada but I am visiting Ottawa in October. This will be my first visit and I think I will love it!

Also, for the MN person, I have gotten about 25 tourist mailings in the past month for Minnesota. LOL. I don't know if one of my friends thought it would be funny to send me massive amounts of mail or if the Universe is telling me to visit. (I'm not a hiking, camping girl.....)

Keep the pictures coming; it's awesome!

Writesomething,

It's an Olympus FE-100: http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1184
If you get one, I'll tell you my few tricks.

The other thing you really need is Picasa, the free photo manipulation software from Google. The camera comes with it's own software, and that actually works pretty well, too. Picasa's just easier and way faster.

I was going to suggest Canon PowerShot S80 http://reviews.cnet.com/Canon_PowerShot_S80/4505-6501_7-31475440.html
I just bought one for my office. It's a little pricey but worth it.

Yeah, mine's pretty inexpensive - $150. It seems to work, though.

Thanks mystical How lovely that you like the UK so much - there are some stunning places here it's true. There are of course some bloody awful ones too... Slough (where 'The Office' was set) springs to mind! I think whoever the architect was they need to get him on a psychiatrist's couch and ask him what on earth the matter was!

But seriously though, 1scorp and you should come and visit whenever you can - I'll get the kettle on!

Venusian Love what fantastic pics! I'd love to visit New York. And how beautiful to see the two towers of light as a memorial to Sep 11th; it's so fitting and so very touching.

I love these pictures. AG, you are a talented photographer, I really enjoyed the lighting in many of your photos. I could tell "your street" was taken after the rain. Very nice images. I am loving the castles, the temples, the countrysides and foliage, and the pictures of NYC as well. I have loved every picture, keep them coming. I second the Great Thread nomination and also give it a 10/10.

A view of the quaint little skyline of Fairbanks..

The main drag through downtown-

A nice view of the valley with the Alaska range in the distance-

We have stunning sunsets.. and a weird thing about winter, being as we only get about 3.5 hours of daylight.. it's like sunrise or sunset all day long!

Unless it's an oppressively overcast day..
(BTW, that's the Chena river that runs all the way through town..)

It's nice to visit the hotsprings in the winter.. nothing like a dip in the outdoor pool when it's -20 F .. It's one of my favorite things.

The long nights of winter are easier to endure thanks to the blessing of the aurora-

p.s. Acoustic God, you live right next to my son's grandparents who are in Dublin. Their neighborhood looks exactly like yours! I swear, I don't know how any of you folks down there find your house! lol

I live in York, England. Here are some pictures...

First-off, York Minster in all its glory:

A flooded Kings Arms pub!

And one of the quaint little old cobbled streets (The Shambles):

Another nice street (Low Petergate):

A section of the City Walls in spring (famous for their daffodils!):

And this is the main river that runs through the city of York, the River Ouse:

Touch

I feel like I've been on a vacation 'round the world!

KAMILLA.........happy you started this thread. I think there is a similar one in the "archives" here....I remember contributing before...

Thank you for the NJ pics....I LOVE the water...(five water signs in my chart - a Pisces stellium)...

~*~*~*~*~*

MOONCHILD.........thank you for bringing us to KOCHI and BANGALORE!

India has always been a "magical land" to me...I think it started when I was a child and saw the movie (the original one) JUNGLE BOOK! I named my kitty Sher Khun....
Love the pic of the ISCKON temple (as well as all the others). I'll bet it's a beauty to see in reality...*sigh*

~*~*~*~*~*

ACOUSTIC GOD.........What can I say? San Francisco...Wow!
Never been there but always wanted to see it....you live near APRHODITE......how cool....

Love your pic of the Golden Gate....we have our "Big Mac" which I'll post later on...it connects the upper and lower penninsula of Michigan.

~*~*~*~*~*

LIONEYE.........Love your pics too.....Are you in Ontario?....Toronto, maybe?
I think Ontario is similar to Michigan...and I so love the "winter" picture too...thanks....

~*~*~*~*~*

MYSTICALDREAM.........I've been thru Bowling Green (on my way to Nashville)....I think Kentucky is a beautiful state...I absolutely adore the scenic picture...that's how I remember much of KY...

~*~*~*~*~*

ZALA.........Love pretty pics too....Minnesota also reminds me of Michigan.

~*~*~*~*~*

CHARLOTTE.........Once again....what can I say about Nashville!....been there so many times, and so many changes have taken place since "my days" there! *sigh*

I have many happy memories of my Nashville adventures....thanks for the beautiful pics....

~*~*~*~*~*

CARDINALGAL.........ENGLAND....my "other" country.

You are from Lincoln.....my ancestors from Lincolnshire....

Oh! Oh! I luv, luv, luv, your pictures....

Like India, England is also a "magical" land for me....and I still hope I can visit someday...to the land of Charles Dickens...the Brontes...the Beatles...Jane Austin...Shakespere...Englebert Humperdinck...Tom Jones...Sybil Leek...Anne Boelyn...Princess Di...not to mention my Collins ancestors...*sigh*

The pictures of the cathedrals are awesome...love the quaint old streets too...and your very own "neighborhood." What a treat to see where everyone lives...

~*~*~*~*~*

VENUSIAN LOVE.........I really don't live that far from New York City....but I've never been there! *sigh*......something I've "always wanted to do." Maybe someday....

Thanks for the awesome pictures....

Oo Touch you're a lucky soul! I went to York last year on my birthday and had a fantastic time looking round the Minster and The Shambles Love that area with all it's old shops - we bought old fashioned sweets from jars and had them out of a paper bag... straight back to my childhood!

Who knows!

Perhaps one day I'll make that visit....*sigh*

~*~*~*~*~*

HARPYR.........Thanks for bringing us to Fairbanks...I've never been to Alaska...but my son has...

Your pictures are bee-you-tee-ful!!!

The winter sunset looks like a "fairyland" picture...a bit of heaven on earth...

The other scenic pictures are fantastic too...and that aurora borealis...WOW! I'm far enough north in Michigan, that we can catch the northern lights once in awhile too....and they are AWESOME!!!!!!

How strange it must be to have such little daylight in the winter....all the same....a lovely, lovely state....*sigh*

~*~*~*~*~*

TOUCHSTONE .........More of England!

I LUV IT!

York Minster is sooooo impressive! Wow!

York looks very picturesque....

Some of your pics seem to take us back in time.....which I do luv.

Thank you for contributing...please show us more, if you can cuz I always love to see more of England.
