Swerve.....I LUV YOUR PICTURES! (now we have pics of Lincoln, York and London...wow!) But you did not identify them...(I suppose the more sophistocated among us would recognize them on sight..*sigh*) I'm going to "guess" that the waterway is the Thames...right? Would that be the Big Ben and parliment too? Whatever we are seeing....it does have a certain "eerieness" about it.. Harry Potter-esque as you suggested... The lighting gives it a certain quality which we would not get were it stark daylight. I do love them...thank you for posting them... IP: Logged |

Yup, it's for real and it's a monument to a Bug.I laughed about it a lot when I first got down here (OK, so I still laugh about it), but they have a pretty good reason for that strange little monument: The economy down here had been extensively based on cotton farming. Cotton is horrible to soil, and they weren't rotating their crops or letting the land lie fallow enough (because, dern it, cotton was one heck of a cash crop). They were killing their land to make a living. Then the boll weevils came through and decimated the cotton industry. They had to replace it w/ something...and they replaced with (drumroll please) Peanuts (which are nitrogen fixers; they help to restore soil). There's even the National Peanut Festival held in Dothan every year. We're in a special, special place right now. Sooooo special. IP: Logged |

Yeah, it's neat, but it kind of reminds me of a falling down building. It's actually much nicer from the other side, where it meets the ground, and has a huge fountain/wading pool in front of it. I couldn't find a pic of that side for some reason.People from further south often comment on the color of the sky here. It's kind of indigo blue, not the paler blue you see elsewhere. I never knew that was special until other people mentioned it. Sometimes it's more pale too though. IP: Logged |

AG ~ Your pictures are so great. Your camera is incredible: crystal clear, vivid, bright and colorful. Your town looks great! I've never been there! (at least I don't think I have)...... I should take some of my area too! And/or see if there's some online. btw, did you feel the earthquake? I didn't. But it was much closer to you than me. IP: Logged |

Thanks Neph! No I didn't feel the earthquake, and often I'm the only one to feel them. The old man crossing the street on the right stopped and talked with me for a bit. Ended up here at Claude & Dominique's Bistro late one night after drinking. Claude & Dominique's son, Anthony, made us some pepper steaks with a side of potatoes and carrots. It was delicious. Never been back. IP: Logged |

LIONEYE........DAYDREAMER........I hate to sound redundant.....but gee...I love your pictures too..... DayDreamer....was especially impressed with the First Nation and Metis Culture pictures.... ....and no, AG....I never get tired of your pictures...What's the name of that place with the hanging flowers and the wrap around balcony??? I like the looks of it... Anyway...I don't have a nice camera like AG....in fact, I don't have a camera at all...when I want to take pics I always get one of those throw aways...*sigh* ..but I did find some beautiful pictures of northwestern lower Michigan (where I reside), taken by a very talented photographer who lives in Frankfort, just north of me... So here goes..... I call Lake Michigan my magical inland sea...so will show you some different views of it...(all photos taken by Al Hyams).... see them in next post....

I think I prefer your pics to mine guys. I've been in London too long, and all these pics of mountains and forests and villages is making me a little restless.I think some travelling is in order. AG - love your pics by the way, don't stop. I have family in San Fran and I adore that city, the vibe, all of it. Swerve IP: Logged |

Every photo on this thread is amazing . Just makes you realise how beautiful the world is. Thank you for the snow photos. This is something what I truly miss. Swerve, your pictures of London are great. Very distinctive urban culture flair. AG, don't even think about quitting. And, no, this is definitely NOT the camera, which makes your photos a true work of art. IP: Logged |

Swerve: I agree. Seeing all of these different places just makes me want to travel. Rainbow: I love the first picture you posted. The waves with the storm clouds. Very nice. The picture you posted of the river in Autumn, looks a lot like where I live. The cliffs, trees, etc. mystical: I don’t have any pictures that would really show downtown Lex. Maybe I can take a few sometime and post them. I looked on the net for pictures, but I couldn’t find any that show the nice areas. Yes, there are a lot of horse farms around here. If I had to choose an area here that I thought was the nicest, it would be around Bardstown. ________________________________________ Scorpio sun, venus, mars, mercury, and uranus Libra moon, pluto, and asc. Prox,It's an Olympus FE-100 http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1184 I should perhaps note that I often use my tripod and timer. That way I press the button, and it waits 10 seconds before taking the picture. This makes for very still photos. These pictures were taken downtown the night before last at sunset, so the lights were coming on and the colors were very vivid. I also use Google's free program Picasa, which is a an amazingly simple, but very good photo manipulation program. I generally sharpen every picture with that program as well as mess with lighting and things like that if they're warranted. Olympus' program is good, too. IP: Logged |

Rainbow,I love lighthouse pics. Something about lighthouses really does it for me. I think I'd like to be a beacon in the darkness, too. I don't know the name of that building. Just one of the buildings downtown. The balcony over Casa Madrid was built not long ago onto the existing building. I remember how there was a street light that was sticking through it when they were building. Those buildings are on the same side of the street and across the street from one another. IP: Logged |

This is a museum of some sort. Maybe city history or something. The sign is a reminder from the Pleasanton Police Department saying that fireworks are illegal. IP: Logged |
