Thought I'd start a Summer thread since it's finally beginning to be a true California Summer with heat this week! We expect temps. to be in the 90's this week! We've had a lot of variation from day to day. Mostly we have a lot of wind.

What is everyone doing this summer, how is your weather, and what is new?

I am doing temp work, trying to do things around the house that I normally don't have time for, swimming, taking my dog for walks, and volunteering at Wildcare on Saturdays. Our Veggie garden is producing alright, but now that's it's getting warm, should be more productive.

And you?

I LOVE summer!!!! I've been tending my flowers, (don't have room for veggies).
And swimming, swimming, swimming!!!
It has generally been in the mid-nineties here, but not too humid, so it's perfect for a dip into the water!

Where do you live? Are you the one who posted the pic of the river? Where do you swim?

I didn't swim today 'cos I got called in to a temp job. The weather is finally getting warm - was in the upper 80's today and is supposed to be 99 tomorrow.

Yes, that's me...the one with the river!
I'm in Northeastern Oklahoma. I swim in the river and the numerous clearwater creeks that are here. I live in a condo that has a pool so I swim there as well. Have always been a water-baby!!!

Randall why don't you update us on your summer?

Saturn's ~ A-ha! Finally I remembered something!! I just cannot keep track of who is who around here, who told me what, and I still don't know who is a girl/boy knowflake!! LOL

Oooh I would love to swim in a creek or river. Yumm Yumm. I live at my Mom's house and she has a gorgeous large pool so that's where I swim. My dog loves it also and sometimes we just cannot get her out of the H20!

Actually, we have been getting a lot of rain lately. But just here and there almost out of nowhere.

Then it leaves and out comes the sun to dry up all the rain.

And the itsy bitsy spider climbs up the spout again.

It is so freaking hot here. Right now it's 6:47 p.m. and it's about 90 degrees Farenheit in our backyard. I just ate dinner and am waiting for my food to digest so I can go swimming again.
We get NO rain from Spring to Winter. If you come here, your view will be dry hillsides amber waves of grain
Since I work at Wildcare now I am very conscious of the birds in our yard. So I've been giving them fresh cold H20 each day in the bird baths. At Wildcare they always drink all of their H20 in the cages.
My tiny little fish pond, the H20 evaporates 1/2 to 1 inch each day so I have to put cold H20 in there too.

Isn't the not swimming after you eat thing a myth? Or not?

Funny, my Biology teacher this past semester mentioned that too. But we aren't supposed to excercise right after a meal, right? Well swimming is excercise????? I do laps, kickboard, and bicycle in the deep end.
Well I always wait 1 hour after a meal.

Another thing about this heat is that I get so thirsty!!! I drink at least 10 large glasses of H20 per day!!! I guess they say the more you drink the thirstier you get. Well it's true with me. Then I have to go potty all day long as well

We just returned from the Farmer's Market and bought a Yellow Watermelon! Man, it is SO GOOD!!! I am not supposed to be eating fruit right now which is really hard. It's so unfair. There are just too, too many things I can't eat. I have lost 13 lbs. lately. Because all the Summer fruit is so wonderful

I've walked around the mall after eating.

I don't think I've ever seen a yellow watermelon.

MMMMM....yellow melons are yummy. I bought a big huge green striped one yesterday at the farmer's market. Bright red meat inside!
Super sweet!!!!
I'm on a pretty restrictive diet too, but fortunately I can have watermelon!!!

I just had some of the gold/yellow watermelon. They're almost perfectly round and not as big as the red watermelon. I am not supposed to be eating melons at all because they contain mold. But I did. And I have a headache. But it was so good.

Randall, if you ever see them, I highly suggest you get one. I like it better than the red.

Saturn's ~ glad you can eat them and glad yours is good.

To all of you out there enjoying nice summer temperatures, consider yourselves lucky.

It is unbearably hot here right now,(90 minutes South of Vegas) last week we had 4 days with temps at 115 and above.

nuclear oven here.

Stay Cool and Peace Out

On the plus side, it is a dry heat, so it doesn't feel as bad (but you are being literally cooked).

Hey Everyone! ~

Bluemoon ~ AAaaaah! I remember that song, love it! From my 80's genre' era!!!! Wasn't it Bananarama? Those girls were really pretty.

La la Linda ~ WOW! I don't know how I would handle that!! Are you near Lake Mead? I heard it's hot there. Once, I went to a lake in AZ that was so hot at night it was like taking a bath!! Unfortuneately I can't remember the name of it.

Our heatwave has died down for a bit. I'm working about 15 minutes south of where I live right now and it's SO COLD there. Ugh it's foggy and windy. Closer to S.F. so that's why. (Fog city).

Oooo....I used to live in Vegas and loved to go to Lake Mead. Ran into the "Hell's Angels" there one time,,,gave them a wide birth!

It made the 100 mark here today...but thankfully the humidity wasn't high...hot enough though, but we may hit 102 or 103 tomorrow....

Hello Everyone

I live by the Colorado River, not far from Boulder/Hoover Dam.

You're right about the dry heat Randall, it takes a good 15 minutes to cool off the steering wheel just so you can drive.

Send me a rain shower!!

Now is also a good time to remind everyone that 10 or 15 minutes is long enough to kill a child or pet in a closed car, take no chances this summer, leave the kids and dogs at home.

Great idea La La Linda! I've already reported 2 dogs left in cars in the heat this year to my local Humane Society. One, I had to help rescue out of the car and hoist up into the H.S. vehicle. Funny, now I see that officer all the time when I work at Wildcare on the weekends.

Saturns ` Oooh we have the Hell's Angels gang here and I don't like them because I hate when they crank their motorcycles real loud and weave through cars. I just hate it when motorcycles weave through cars!!!
