We currently have half a carton full of green eggs. The Welsummers haven't started laying yet They're all doing well. It's pretty chilly here today, but it's warmed up enough that I think they'll enjoy some time in their mobile run. IP: Logged |

Jenny (foreground) is in most of the pictures I got - she's super obnoxious, acts like a rooster, though she's sweet in her own little velociraptor way. Harriet's in the background. Jenny's in the foreground again. She had the majority of her chest feathers pulled out in a raccoon attack a few months ago. To the right is Sparkles (named by my 5-year-old), one of our two Easter Eggers. IP: Logged |

Yeah, they seem pretty happy. Well, for chickens. They get to run around, catch bugs, eat grass and clover, and dig in the dirt - within the confines of their mobile run. (See: Hawks, raccoons, foxes, neighbors' dogs.) Still only getting 1-2 per day. We joke that we're going to rename the two who aren't yet laying as "Broth" and "Stock" if they don't get a move on it by the Spring. (We won't really...though I may let them free range a bit.) Oh, I'd missed "is it cold there": Not that cold yet. Virginia doesn't get bitter cold until January/February. And, honestly, ever since my stint up near Watertown, NY, it seems incredibly mild. The biddies are still getting put out into their mobile run on days that break 40, at least for a few hours. IP: Logged |

Yeah, Virginia's weird. It was in the 70s a few days ago and the high's going to be in the 40s today. It doesn't get all that bad here, though. I can think of few times we made it into the single digits, even for overnight lows. ------------------ If I've included this sig, it's because I'm posting from a mobile device. It's a bit colder in the mountains. I'm in the close-in suburbs of DC, about an hour away from the Blue Ridge. We can can get chilly, but are in that band that probably gets more ice than snow. ------------------ If I've included this sig, it's because I'm posting from a mobile device. It's a bit colder than GA - we will get a few feet of snow on occaision - but there are also years in which we get virtually none.------------------ If I've included this sig, it's because I'm posting from a mobile device. Please excuse all outrageous typos and confusing auto-corrects. IP: Logged |
