First of all, let me extend my condolences with regards to your uncle's death. Sounds like you've got a lot to deal with! Now, I feel that your uncle was ready to go, just not expecting it when it came. I get the impression that (and please don't take offense) that whatever circumstances he was found in, he now thinks of it as funny. Almost as if he's enjoying the drama his death has brought about. Not in a cruel way, mind you, more like he's sitting back watching everyone run around being serious and dramatic while he sits back and laughs about it. I also have the feeling that amongst the family, it was thought when your aunt died that he should have been the one to go first, as if she could have handled it better. But, he still had unfinished business and had to stay. I don't think he necessarily died of a broken heart, but he was definitely "ready" to go! He thanks you for not getting someone to help take care of him, as had someone else been there, he might still be here, and that's not really what he wanted, he wanted to be with his beloved. I firmly believe that we don't go a minute too late or a minute too early. Your uncle lived a full life, be thankful for the time he was here with you bodily and know that he hasn't really gone anywhere at all and is just as close as he ever was/will be! His misery is done, let yours be as well...

The day after I asked for the reading, I saw him and his wife on their balcony and I said - that's the first time I saw you guys out on that damn balcony - you can actually see Yankee Stadium from there. It's a beautiful view. What a joker. Yeah - he was found in a pretty funny way and I won't get into details about that here. You know something, his wife took care of most of their affairs. When she died, I realized just how much she had to deal with as far as my uncle was concerned. I told him, you know Aunt Eleanor would not have tolerated what is going on. Both were very straightforward for their age so it was always a fun time being around them. She was SOOOOOO ahead of her time. I remember visiting them once and I had just got my tongue pierced (I no longer have it since I almost choked to death on pasta one too many times). She whispered to my uncle and jokingly said to me - I know what that is for and she was just laughing and laughing and laughing. When she passed my uncle just gave up. We would visit him and say, you can't eat pancakes and bacon or frosted flakes or chocolate eterman's donuts every daggone day and you got to get up, we made appointments for you and you are not even dressed and don't give us that "ehhhh, i don't want to go". He was VERY healthy - let me get to 93, still walking around, still can see, still know what time of day it is, what day it is and have a coherent conversation with you.

Yes, we are making funeral arrangements and sooooooooo many family members are well - have their hands out, where is his money, and giving my grandmother a hard time. i asked her not to take their calls. she was the only one who would go to visit him, in the condition she was in, and took care of him. my aunt and her were putting things together well before (my aunt knew she was dying of cancer) - again, my aunt was a very ahead-of-her-time, type of person. in her 90s and into the stock market, investiments, banking, etc and very good at it. in a way, had he died before she did, it wouldn't be as chaotic as it is now. we were just about to hire a lawyer to take over everything since there was so much (both her assets and her sister's went to my uncle which was overwhelming and quite a bit) and we just mailed off his taxes not even a month before but my uncle was dragging his feet and didn't want to hire her. lo and behold, a little over a month later, he died. he definitely wasn't going to go for my idea of hiring a housekeeper - someone to keep the place tidy and make sure he ate "real" food, not junk. he would have drove that person insane, trust me, knowing full well that it would probably make them leave. now that you mention it, maybe we were boring him to death. My aunt was soooooooo much fun to be around. Such a ray of sunshine.

thank you so much for your assessment, i always picture people who pass away as watching to see how everyone is acting. i know he is watching everything and i hope that we do everything he wanted to be done, the right way even though we didn't handle the legalities the way we wanted to before he died. i'm actually supposed to work on the program for the funeral - it's on wednesday morning (we took care of that detail on saturday - p.s. his sister and nephew were VERY dramatic saying how are we supposed to pay for all of this and saying that he and they didn't talk much but that's because he didn't like that her son was running her into the ground and didn't want him ANYWHERE near him). i know he will be watching the funeral and i'm sure there will be some very funny moments since he was such a very funny guy. when you have a certain amount of closeness with someone, and they pass away, depending on the situation, it could a very sad occassion or a really funny one especially if they were the type to tell you what was on their mind about everything and everybody because you start to see exactly the kinds of things they would tell you about! he couldn't stand many people in the family. it sucks!
