I'd like to know how this thread was astro relevant from the beginning. Unless you edited your OP, there was no astro content to begin with. IP: Logged |

quote: I think it's wrong to compare other countries according to whatever set standards one is used to. There will always be differences. People take nuances here and run with them and go THAT'S RACIST. Seriously, whatever man. People in the US like to cry racism every 5 seconds because that's what THEY KNOW.
Too bad you kind of just did that in your previous post. TBH, I don't think the U.K. or the U.S. are any better than eachother in the race department. IP: Logged |

LOL yeah well the US is definitely a winner in the BS department cos they are racist as f*** !LA is racist - Hollywood and the Hills are sooooo racist. Anyway, i guess it's all an observation but i don't buy that London is racist. We are a truly multi-national society and we all get on very well. IP: Logged |

BM, what are you talking about? The US determines what is considered beautiful by its standards and those standards carry because its MEDIA is the most powerful. Don't tell me the US is not racist. Just don't. I experienced it when I first came to this country not just from black but also from white and Hispanic kids. I've seen it with others. More than in the UK, for sure. This is my experience. Up until a few years ago you had segregated high school dances in some places in the South here. Just because you never experienced racism on blatant levels doesn't mean it does not exist. The country is young and there are still many, many instances of racism here. IP: Logged |

I never said there was no racism here (I've experienced it first hand, btw), but to say the U.K. is lightyears ahead is plain ridiculous too. I have family members that I've stayed with there myself and from what I saw and heard, it's no better. IP: Logged |

Rasp, um, are you totally naive? Do you really want to go down this rabbit hole? Because I used to work in the entertainment industry in LA. And yes, color determines a lot. As does ethnicity. You're basically saying right now that Hollywood doesn't stereotype. IP: Logged |

Beauty is Beauty. You either have it, or you don't it doesn't matter what color you are. That's Hollywood. IP: Logged |

BM, yes, I agree 100%. I can't say light years ahead either. One thing I do know is that the US is often terrified of the race subject in general. IP: Logged |

You cannot compare Hollywood to the US. They are discriminatory against everyone in the movie business. I thought we were talking about the real world and not hollywood which is something else ENTIRELY. IP: Logged |

We see it but this was a matter of which country is more racist, in which case the UK takes home the prize. IP: Logged |

Beauty is determined by trend according to Hollywood. What they want. And who funds them. And what will make them more money. It's not about beauty, it's about money. IP: Logged |

Oy, are we seriously going to do the comparison thing? They have better health insurance and stopped slavery sooner. They are better in my book just for these 2 things. IP: Logged |

What? How could you say a country stopped something 'sooner' than another country which is WAY younger than it is? The Europeans that came to America in the beginning slaughtered the natives like nothing. The Europeans created slavery. IP: Logged |

I'm sorry, but that doesn't say sh%t about their attitudes. The Portuguese did the same thing but that didn't stop them from bullying non-whites and non-Christians until the freaking 70's when they were finally thrown out of Africa.
