Perhaps, the energies of love are different.
Pluto/Venus love is a certain energy.
It is intense passion.
Pluto/moon love is passion with deep tenderness.
Venus/Venus love is appreciation of the person in an aesthetic way.
Scorpio love is intense,penetrating.
Cancer love is a warm, snuggly fuzzy.
Aqua love is detached, removed, the opposite of warm fuzzy, in my experience
Cap love is practical assistance type of love

These are just some of my ideas. They could be wrong. but I wanted to put them out there to see what you thought.

With your Sun, Moon, and Mercury in your 8th house I'd say that to feel bonded with another, you need them to recognize all those parts in you. Kinda like, YOU meet those parts in yourself as another person sees them.

Does that make any sense?

edit - This is in response to your post on the 2nd page. I'm catching up.

I LOVE strong silent types. That mystery. That aura. It's almost intimidating, and demeaning. It makes me want to know that mind. I need someone I can talk to about everything and nothing. I need someone smarter than I am too. Someone who can teach me things on a cultural, life-experience, intellectual manner. And I want to be able to teach them as well, on an emotional level.

I think i'm so drawn to strong silent types because they seem selective. They don't just give themselves up to anyone. You have to work for it. You have to be worthy. And there's a true intimacy in that. And underneath that quiet exterior is a mountain of emotions waiting to be shared and unleashed.

That sounds like your Venus-Saturn opposition talking, and what an erotic description it is! I can see their house placements in how you experience that opp.

quote:
I am everyone else's psychologist and problem solver in my own life, and shy away from opening up to people who won't really understand. I want him to push past my excuses and demand to know me.

I wonder if being the psychologist is the role of the Scorpio Asc, since we all seem to have that imbalance. In the relationship, we're the observant, penetrating Plutonian.

I've known a few people who can give me that too, right off the bat. They pick up on everything, no matter how subtle.

More often, I've known people who can understand me as long as I'm first willing to give them myself. I, as the Scorpio Asc, have to rip myself apart for them, not wait for them to tear me open in the way I do them.

They "open" me by giving me an irresistible desire for intimacy with them. I must share myself with them. Once I rip myself apart for them, they're able to swoop in, understand, and transform me.

I your values.

What you seek in a partner matches your Aries 8th house and Aqua Mars so well!

My closest guess is this: I'm a Scorpio Rising, so my chart ruler Pluto. I've got Pluto in Libra in the 11th conjunct Saturn in Scorpio in the 12th. Might have something to do with that.

As I asked, I thought your Sco Asc alone could explain that imbalance. I'm glad I asked though bc I think your answer gives a deeper explanation.

Pluto is cnj Saturn, so Saturn could restrict the love you allow yourself to receive from others. (Pluto is in the 11th & one of that house's functions is love received.) So why is Saturn restricting Pluto? Since Saturn's in the 12th & rules your 3rd (?), I'd say it's from a pessimistic judgment that the other person wouldn't understand you. This judgment is probably usually correct (Saturn's smart ), but I think with Saturn we can resign ourselves to limitations that aren't always there.

Have people ever surprised you, understanding you more than you would've expected them to after you've opened up to them?

With your chart, I'm thinking the value you find in me is simultaneously your own value.

Probably it all comes down to Moon and Saturn for me, and also ties the 2nd house extremely tight into 8th house issues, too.

What a breeze.

About signs/planets in love...I believe there's an essence, but I also think there's an enormous range of expression.

For example, Aqua can be detached and cold on a personal level, leaving you feeling alone. Or it can be a love that is so deep and total that it accepts ALL that you are. It gives you enough space to express all your parts bc it wants you to flourish on every level, even if that means excluding it from your life at times. That patient and understanding love can be incredibly heart-warming. It transcends an "I'll love you IF..."-mentality.

Cap can be so devoted and focused that your self-protective walls crumble. You realize "love" and "loyalty" aren't old-fashioned fairy tales but are right here.

Every sign/planet can love in a way that takes your breath away. Or in a way that breaks your heart. IMO.

What was your synastry with that guy? Do you know his natal 8th?

Well Jane, he had the same ascendant as me (virgo 16*/me 4*) and ALSO (except for me chiron in it) an empty 8th house.
The ruler of his 8th (Scorp-Mars) in his 3rd conj. Uranus and square Venus/NN.

Well, the heavy connection to my planets;

His NN/Venus conj. my SN and oppose my Mars (which I think I can also call the ruler of my 8th since it's most Aries in there).

Pfft , this must be complex so; (for me it is )

Sun-Sun sextile (3)
Moon-Moon opp. (4,5)
Mars-Mars square (0)
Sun-Moon square (4,5)
Asc-Moon sextile (0)
Venus-Mars opp. (1,5)
Moon-Mars conj. (3)
NN-SN conj. (4,5-5)
SN-Mars conj. (0)
NN/SN-Mars square (5)
SN-Venus conj. (6)
Uranus-Mars square (3)

(I must have forgotten something, but I guess it will not escape this immense picture)

And.. none of my planets fall in his 8th and none of his in my 8th.

This was the first (and only) time for me (Sun-fire) that I was romantically involved with a Sun-air sign (even sextile). Wow!

I wonder if that telepathy is the Uranus influence as well. We both have Mercury aspecting Uranus.

I never thought of this before but it actually makes sense. It could be Uranus.. OR.. it could be the mix of having a water Mercury + the Uranus aspect.

PS. My Mercury is 18' Pisces!
What degree was your Scorp Mercury?

I saw in letram's thread that you two have been through a...thing...lately? I don't know what the original conflict was about, but I just wanted to send some love both your ways.

Ah, the ubiquitous Node aspects. They're almost always present when people really click. Have you checked your draconic synastry with him? I highly recommend it.

The last person I formed a really deep (platonic) bond with has his SN exactly cnj my Sun, and his Draconic Sun & Saturn conjunct my regular Moon. Instant recognition.

What are your Sun and Moon signs?

Your Asc is cnj my NN. I wonder what lessons you have in store for me. *eagerly awaits enlightenment*
