I've been researching how to prove astrology by predicting against the sports results, something that cannot be altered. Predicting by giving someone a reading can be VERY hard to prove. Ok, impossible.

You can look at astrology from two ways, first a planet centred position, where Sun = ego and Mercury = communication. this is how most are taught.

Then you can look at astrology from a house position, where first house is appearance/personality and house 3 is communication.

I look at astrology from a house point of view. The second one.

This is how I see personality...

Your Asc is the mask you wear and comes into action when you first meet (1st house) a something (situation) or someone.

The sign in which the ruler of the ASC (personality) is in tells you what their real personality is like. Just as the Sun would in the old and tired way of doing astrology.

In order to get to this way of thinking, you need to look at astrology from a house point of view, as opposed to a planet point of view

My ASC is Aquarius, which means I come off as aloof and detached when you first meet me. With my ASC ruler in Scorpio, people who have known me for a while would describe me as a Scorpio. Quite controlled and a little seething (with the state of the world)

Amazing, thank you.

I guess I come across as a Gemini but I am definitely not a Gemini in my head. Plus Mercury conjuncts my Sun in Scorpio. I do tend to associate my ideas with my identity.

Do you also take the house into account, Coffee?
In which house is your ASC ruler?

Using whole sign AND Placidus, my Mercury falls in my 6th.

Cat Face, you remind me of my sister. Capricorn Ascendant with Saturn in Sagittarius, but she acts more Saggie than she really is.
Hmm.. But then again her Saturn is in the 12th.
Argh *sigh* I don't know.

Well maybe we need to consider the whole chart then, because she's got a heavy Saturn just like me, and so that may be why she isn't that Jupiterian after all, but more Capricorn-like.

Well I definitely do come across Sag-like to others, I'm pretty sure of that, but... Jupiter is in Capricorn, so would I be Cap-like in my head, then?

Well, with Saturn conjunct sun you could argue so, but I don't think I am much of a Cappie in my head...

------------------
Scorp sun , Gem moon, Cap mars and Sag nearly everything else! Well, except Pluto and Saturn :p

This is a bit of breakthrough for me and very interesting Coffee. I haven't looked at Asc ruler sign before - think this exlains a few things actually...

My Asc is Gemini and Asc ruler is in Scorpio...

I'm thinking I'm definitely more Scorpion than relating to the Gemini

I need to go and think about this some more for sure : )

Coffee,
I don't act like a Sag even after. Saturn opposite my Moon and widely square Venus says a lot about me. The Cap mask is pretty glued to my face.

I'm a sag ASC with jupiter in aquarius, but I always attributed the aquarius with uranus conjunct my ASC. this is an interesting way to look at it though.

I am a Cap Asc with Saturn in Sag/12th. I do identify with Sag more than Capricorn, but I feel waaay more my sun sign deep down, although modified by various influences.

See, that's what I was talking about.
Your Saturn touches personal planets, that's why the Jupiter doesn't come out as strongly as Saturn.

What aspects does your Jupiter do, Cat Face?

Coffee, are you serious? ....You are just making stuff up now...Your ascendant ruler sign enhances your ascendant but it is not your personality.
I don't buy this one.

However...I do agree that your ascendant ruler is one of the most significant planets in your chart...and it is usually triggered by transits in significant events so much so that if you rectify a chart you must confuse the ascendant ruler with the ascendant.

Yeah, I'm making it up, just like these astrologers 'made up' your sun sign being your personality. Yes, I know you have to reverse lots of astrology teaching in order for this to work. 'Did I look at my chart wrong this whole time?, no it can't be, this must be wrong'

Just a logical way of looking at things. It has been scientifically researched (without looking) that we do have a mask for social situations, and sometimes act different than we do normally.

Go with whatever is right for you.

The information is here.

I'm trying very hard but I still don't see the logic around house-centered astrology vs. planets. The planet is the player, while the house is the condition. It just makes no sense to throw out the former in favor of the latter and it certainly doesn't resonate with me.

Absolutely...and that is why asteroids and other various house systems work too

Maybe this is true mostly for the inner planets, or asc rulers conjunct personal planets (mine is in aries, conjunct sun).

So, if I want to look at how my work is going; house 6, I would look in one house system to find Scorpio rules that house, while another house system has Libra ruling that house. Both the Venus and Pluto descriptions are correct for how my work is actually going? No.

1st house is all about appearance. Put a sign on the 1st house and you have a description of how that house expresses itself.

Of course not Coffee, if I use equal house I'll stay with it, not chop and change from one to the next.

...what do you think of Vedic astrology?
