Many who are abused, including sexually, run to the streets where there's a lot more abuse. Crooked cops can be sexual abusers AND turn you over to a local pimp for the bounty.

And even legally, there was what was called "vice nights" where cops would bust as many prostitutes (or likely prostitutes) as they could, and they'd all (including kids) would all be before the judge as one and all given the same fine and released. And guess how they're expected to raise the money to pay the fine? It's legalized pimping.

I don't know if any have heard of the "video vigilante" in Oklahoma City but he's videod girls being kidnapped in broad daylight on main street when the city swore it didn't happen (until he proved it did). All those cars going by and nobody sees anything...

As a runaway you can't go to the hospital or the police for help and you can't even get the help of other homeless because anyone who even feeds you is aiding and abetting your delinquency. Some do it anyway, but they're taking a risk (and shelters and such risk being shut down over it). The police only rarely help kids in trouble and even parents who kick their children out aren't tried for child neglect.

All this forces kids underground where they're prey to all sorts of predators including perverts and pimps who happily hunt them. In short the system is set up to make sure abused kids who flee become money makers for the city via prostitution and the like.

For some reason the pimps tend to leave the boys alone, but the boys still face a lot of sexual abuse on the streets just the same. Plenty of them are fleeing sexual abuse at home as well. And at least in Houston they were also exploited by the city's "vice nights" though they had another charge (I forget what it was exactly) but with the very same fine as the females.

'Course there are other options to running away. But reporting abuse often doesn't help. First of all when adults abuse you as a child then you don't expect other adults to help you. But my best friend did manage to talk to a school counselor after her dad had ripped part of her hair out so that she had an obvious patch missing along with a beat up face. The moron thought the family needed "more communication" and tried calling her father, but luckily her father hadn't paid his phone bill so the counselor had to settle for the grandparents who were scared what would've happened if the counselor had been able to call her dad. Needless to say she didn't ask for anymore help and the two of us ended up running away later.

She didn't survive it, she was killed by a pimp trying to break her in. The same pimp had his goons try kidnapping me in broad daylight, too. Another girl showed me where she'd been shot in the leg with a .22 by the same pimp after she'd run and been caught by him again to teach her not to run. And how they "break you in" is too vicious for words. I expect my best friend was grateful when she died of OD (they force the girls they capture onto hard drugs until they're addicted before they're allowed back out onto the streets as this makes them easier to control and alienates others who might otherwise sympathize thinking they did it to themselves).

Pixie Jane your story is exactly the kind of story I wanted to hear about when I started this thread ... I had no idea things like this happened ... well I had some idea but it's brutal ! It's embedded in the society ... thank you for telling me about that ...
