I do believe borderline personality disorder is real. It just saddens me to see the diagnosis muddled so much. My sister was diagnosed with it, and given experiences I've heard through word of mouth I'm fairly certain she was sexually abused. I know a very high percentage report having been.. it's very tragic to see.

On the plus side, Marsha Linehan has done excellent work with bpd designing dialectical behavior therapy, one of the first therapies designed around a buddhist psychology approach (Linehan been buddhist and catholic ). It's also a great generalized therapy. Trying to find efficacy rates with applicable university studies but right now what is coming up is that it reduces self injury by half compared to other forms of therapy in a more recent study.

Ooo.. I found percentages!!
Click outcomes and it will show efficacy in suicide attempts, parasuicidal behavior, psychosocial adjustment, treatment retention (people keep going), drug use, and when applied to eating disorders! Keeping in mind there are other studies and Churchill's quote about statistics.. http://www.nrepp.samhsa.gov/ViewIntervention.aspx?id=36

Scientific studies make me feel like a kid in a candy store..

In fact, I'll just go ahead and do it, now... because I want to continue talking about this thread, but not in the presence of *edit* members who are more concerned with playing sides, heckling, poking fun, half-participating, than actually talking about what I consider a pretty serious subject.

Strings go in different directions, and there's nothing wrong with that. That was out of line calling people immature.

That's how I feel about it. There's no other word to describe what I see going on here.

I don't see any immaturity. I see friends being friendly. If there were mocking of the subject matter, that would be immature.

I sure wish I had your perspective, Randall. Must be really pleasant.

Regardless, it's fairly obvious who believes in mental illness here, and who doesn't.

Pluto-Squared stop trying to control the thread. It's up to people themselves whether or not to believe in mental illness or specific mental illnesses. You have no idea what people's experiences are and no right to judge.
You didn't start this thread either.

I think it's a natural inclination to provide light relief to quite an intense subject matter...

Awww, thanks

He is Gemini rising and moon. He has a cleft in his chin (like me and my BFF also has it) I think that's supposed to be popular amongst Gemini risers. Which I am, but my BFF is not.

Quinnie, I've already moved on to a thread that has a better vibration to me. And, in turn, Quinnie - don't try to control me. I have every right to determine for myself and use my God given judgment - group acceptance or not.

And, again, have fun cracking jokes over a serious subject.

I think you're intentionally taking what I said out of context, and misunderstanding what I said on purpose. Your "superficial" understanding of what my original point was, only goes to reinforce my feelings on the matter...

Have fun trying to stir the pot

Ami
The people that matter know you and me well enough to know the truth. No explanation is required. Ever.

I see that in haste you deleted the post and can understand why.

No worries. Be you. I will be me.
