With all this talk of how "feminazis" trying to take over the world, people tend to forget just how "normalized" and accepted sexist practices are in society. And for all this talk about the system being corrupt, when it works... It works wonderfully... Like it did in dealing with a bunch of Man-children at the Toronto FC Home Opening game. How to be a total idiot and lose an amazing job that pays 6 figures: - Make sexist comment while you are being on broadcast ON LIVE TV! - Make no apologies for making that comment... Rather defend making it! http://www.cbc.ca/news/trending/hydro-one-employee-fired-after-fhritp-heckling-of-citynews-reporter-shauna-hunt-1.3070948 Good on Hydro one and BMO Field for handling the situation the way they did. I certainly wouldn't want such morons representing my company either. IP: Logged |

YAS! I saw this on tumblr yesterday, I was so glad. I have no sympathy for him losing his job over it . . . the world has consequences and he's adult enough to know he's not above them and should be careful what he says. IP: Logged |

So several men being rowdy at a sporting event proves that sexism against women is rampant in society? This article proves the exact opposite.... It proves that a woman has the power to get men fired if she is offended by anything they say. This PC Liberal Feminist Sh*t is getting out of control. Everyone is a hypersensitive wimp these days. The best part is we have feminists telling us to "ban bossy" because it hurts girls feelings and makes them not want to be a leader. Well guess what? If being called bossy offends you so much that it prevents you from being a leader you don't have any business being a leader anyway. The great irony of feminism is they tell us it empowers women but it really just turns women into giant children instead. Don't like video games that are created by men for men? Create your own d*mn video games instead of griping about how Mario and Zelda are sexist. I could go on and on about this. lol I'm a true feminist... I Think we need to treat women like men and quit treating them like children that "can't handle it".IP: Logged |

Women are children for wanting to be respected? Or are men children for not wanting to be held accountable for their ****** behaviour? You're no feminist, @aquaguy. Women are already raised being told they "can't handle it".Not by feminism, but by men. We're told that we're weak and can't handle hard work, that we're irrational and emotional and can't be impartial and logical. But yeah, go on about how women standing up for themselves and calling out males' ******** is childish. IP: Logged |

Oh yes it does. This is the typical stuff that has become common place in western societies. It boils down to western women having thin skin and society enabling them every step of the way. IP: Logged |

Did you bother to read the article all the way through and watched the linked videos in the article? If you did then you would realize the fact that this wasn't an isolated incident and it wasn't just limited to stadiums either. Venues where such a practice was put in effect range from random reporting of an accident scene to schoolyards... SCHOOLYARDS! It only proves that a woman's gender is the prime target of these taunts and it has nothing to do with her profession. I can bet you that Anderson Cooper certainly wouldn't be called out about him being gay if he were at a school reporting something for instance. Yes they have the power to get idiots fired who DESERVE to be fired! Hydro One's policy on the matter is quite clear: quote: "While we all have a right to personal freedom outside working hours, certain outside business activities may constitute a conflict of interest."
And this little taunt done by one of its employees is a HUGE conflict of interest for this Private/Public contractor; Especially if you consider Ontario's new stance on sexual assault, harassment, etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2ZSZrGc-O8 I am glad he got fired. IP: Logged |

So getting butthurt by a crude comment and crying about it until a guy gets fired is standing up for yourself? You know what a man would have done? Laughed, made a wiseass comment right back, or ignored it. That's the difference between men and women.IP: Logged |

I honestly could not care less about how a man would react. Men don't attack other men with "crude comments" unless they feel like their "masculinity" is being attacked. Whereas these same men have no problem using such comments to belittle women, just for existing. You can see how little regard these men had for her by the way they handled the situation. Btw, please show me where in the video the reporter "cried" at all. "Confrontation" So easy to twist things by changing a simple word. IP: Logged |

Aquaguy, Why. Just why. Why do you always have your **** wrong. This is not about women not being able to handle taking insulting comments or harassment. This is about it is disgusting behaviour. Period. That is all. I know your Aqua mind wants to always make arguments or discussions which insinuate a different perspective but do not let that stop you from effectively realizing what the actual point is. Xodian, thanks for posting this! It is one thing to make a sexist comment on live tv, but to actually defend is pretty lame to say the least.I don't even understand why that phrase caught on in the first place, unbelievably disgusting. Reddit truly is the cesspool of the earth sometimes. No sympathy there- there are consequences for actions. IP: Logged |

You think you're objective about a world giving into and easily fooled by women, but you're not - really every argument and thought is to justify what you already think and want to think: that men have a raw deal and women are to blame. every single challenge to your ideas has a well thought out reason why they are wrong but half the time your responses are just another diversion away from what is the unthinkable to you. Assert you are right all you want but you are definitely not an objective thinker and by now even you must be beginning to realise this, deep down. Feminist issues bore me and half the time I think addressing them reinforces any inequality but to think it's acceptable to put someone in that position where they are ridiculed as an object is unbelievable. And more so because next week your just as likely to be saying how women make men feel uncomfortable when they flirt with them or just like a paycheck because they only want men for their money (even though it's fine men are apparently attracted to looks but wait! caveat 200378 - it's not there's something wrong with being attracted to looks, it's that women don't admit it - that's how tenuous your personal position is) . You demand the very best of women but excuse the very worst of men which is why even though I'm sympathetic to most men's plight, I'm not to yours at all. IP: Logged |

Heeeey, we women need to calm down. Yelling FHITP to a woman is perfectly innocent. A gang of men walking up to a woman and shouting FHITP is just boys being boys. There are no violent undertones, nor any offence of any kind whatsoever, in the phrase FHITP. I mean, lighten up a little! Any rape or abuse victim being triggered by this, is just overreacting. Any woman trying to do her work while being surrounded by a gang of men talking about where to &%#$ her, should just roll with it. Any woman taking offence by a group of men joking about her status of existence for their sexual pleasure, should just get over herself. It's "not about her", after all (quote from the video). Of course when you shout to a stranger where you intend to &%#$ them, it's not at all about them. Feminism is oh so exhausting and taking all the fun out of things! I too long for these long lost times when groups of strangers could surround me and shout and laugh about &%#$-ing me. Those were hilarious times. IP: Logged |

Even though I've often thought some of the following things myself, this http://m.quickmeme.com/p/3vse2b really made me think differently and undo some of the conditioned thinking. Not sure if I originally saw this on this site IP: Logged |

I realised, after a bit but I feel at pains to show I'm not a hardcore feminist just becsuse that image is so often used to undermine whatever is being said, such as idea of not being able to have fun that you addressed IP: Logged |

I just think it's silly when people see things like this and act like it's a big surprise and make a mountain out of a mole hill. A man that was (probably) drunk got rowdy and made a crude remark at a sporting event. Holy sh*t! We've got to do something about this. This kind of thing is nothing new. Men are rowdy when they together. Here's a concept.... If some women hate masculine behavior they should avoid settings where men go to play such as sporting events, comic cons, metal concerts etc. Problem solved. IP: Logged |

Yes, this idea of "feminist = humourless b***h", "not having fun anymore" is truly remarkable. I wish people who use this argument realise that this doesn't portray us as humourless, but them as having a very limited way of 'having fun'. If you can only have fun by degrading people, and feel like your 'right to have fun' is taken away by people feeling offended, then maybe you're not as funny as you thought? I do find it hilarious. What they're saying is "Awww, stop calling us out on degrading you, how else are we going to laugh now? We're the real victims!" IP: Logged |

Masculine behaviour? Some men, yes. Definitely not all. I grew up the only girl in an all-boy neighbourhood, work in an all-male environment, and have many, many male friends. While most of them enjoy the 'settings' you mentioned, very few of them would walk up to a stranger and degrade her in this crude way. Yes, even when drunk. What you're saying is, basically, "boys will be boys". This is a 50s mentality. IP: Logged |
