Ami:
quote:
To sum it up,if someone's Nessus touches a prominent place in your chart in an exact aspect, you will be hurting.
They may not abuse you but you will experience YOUR abuse by the feelings being released from Nessus touching you.

Soo true..
His Nessus was/is exactly conjunct my Asc/Mercury.
He was younger than me, 15 years, 21 when I first met him.
His innocence and reservedness on an intimate level was touching me deeply.
Why?
Because I missed out all these years of age as I was lying on my back from the age of 15/16 to earn money by having sex with ... lots of men.
I didn't know what I was doing then, what the consequenses would be later in life, ofcourse.
But I had the *courage* to do this due to earlier mental abuse. So I easily switched over to a form of physical abuse because in my experience it wasn't so worse at all compared to this mental abuse I went through at earlier age.
And in a way I must have felt the *appreciation* by doing this, as if it made me feel worthy enough..
So yes, he definitely made me relive my abuse and all the things I've missed .. I lost my innocende at such a young age and in such devastated circumstances, unfortunately.
I'm always saying that I've had not one but 5 lifes (and I don't believe in any past life )

Ami:

quote:
I suppose that we all have been abused to some degree or another just by life and other people.
So,I think that if someone's Nessus touches you in a strong way,you will relive your abuse, whatever that may be.

Ami, sure, feel free to comment on what I posted. I'm curious to know how each of us might feel those aspects--esp the Nessus-Venus and Sun-Dejanira, which are tight conjunctions.

Vertiver, interesting about Sedna...I see why the "negative use of sexual energy" part that you posted about Nessus would connect to rape and abuse.

In the relationship with the synastry aspects I posted above, my Sedna is conjunct his IC and opposite his Saturn.

Nessus links the orbits of Saturn and Pluto

Saturn/Pluto midpoint is said to be Nessus-sensitive
in other words, aspects to Saturn/Pluto midpoint are like aspects to Nessus

Astrologers actually came up with name because the orbital characteristics matched well with the mythology of Nessus.

The third Centaur Nessus

Astrologers´ proposals on the naming of the third centaur were officially accepted

* Chiron, Pholus, Nessus

In April 1997 the International Astronomical Union (IAU) accepted a proposal on the naming of a small planet made by astrologers, for the first time in its history. The planet in question is the third centaur "1993 HA2" discovered in April 1993 (click here for the discovery-chart of Nessus). It has now officially been named "Nessus" (latin for greek "Nessos"). The suggestion having been made by Dieter Koch, Zane Stein and myself. The naming was officially announced by global email on the 22nd April 1997, 22h10 UT from the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in Cambridge, USA-MA (diagram 1. Nessus is indicatively located exactly at the third cusp in this natal chart). Nessus is now the third named centaur - after the two formerly discovered centaurs Chiron and Pholus. The centaurs are a tiny group of (to date) seven small planets with unusual properties: neither conventional comets, nor typical asteroids. At the same time, they possess qualities prevalent in both. They travel along extremely differentiated and primarily particularly elliptical orbits in the outer solar sytem. Their origin most probably lies in the Kuiper Belt beyond the orbits of Neptune and Pluto. Torn out of the belt by the force of Neptune millions of years ago, they were thereupon catapulted into the inner solar system where they assumed their present orbit in time. They generally touch or cross the orbits of the main planets and thus have long orbital periods of 49 (Chiron) to c. 123 years (Nessus).

The origins and reasons behind the naming suggestion

During our work on the book about Pholus, Dieter Koch and I emailed its (as well as Nessus´) discoverers David L. Rabinowitz and Jim Scotti. Scotti answered our queries concerning the astronomical characteristics of Pholus and other recently discovered minor planets in detail. Scotti mentioned, in one of his emails, that he feared the stock of mythological centaur names may run out, as greater numbers of centaurs yet await discovery. We researched over 84 centaur names (which managed to dissipate these concerns) and mailed these to him on the 31st May 1995. We also mailed the names to the director of the Minor Planet Center (a department of the IAU and global centre for discoveries in astronomy) Dr. Brian D. Marsden, who is also responsible for namings.

In this e-mail we proposed that the name "Nessus" be given to the third centaur "1993 HA2" given that the following reasons seemed to predestine such a naming:

1. The orbit of "1993 HA2" runs extremely elliptically between Saturn and Pluto (diagram 2). It creates a bridge between the two planets. "1993 HA2" guides us from the ordered world of Saturn into plutonic spheres.
2. The mythology of Nessus has strong associations to plutonic themes: Nessos took revenge for the mortal wounding of his heart through Herakles´ poison arrow by causing great pain to overcome the Greek hero, even whilst fighting with death, through a mean trick. Herakles sees that his end is nigh and sacrifices himself at the stake. This finally leads to the cleansing (from earthly madness) and rise to heaven, saving and immortality of the hero!
3. Besides Chiron and Pholus, Nessus is the third and last centaur equipped with a substantial, famous mythology which has been a source of inspiration to artists throughout the ages.

The Reactions

Dr. Marsden thanked us for the list and naming proposal, passing it on to the "Working Group in Planetary System Nomenclature". Jim Scotti also thanked us for the list, but voiced concern over the savage behaviour and violent tendencies of the centaur so prevalent in mythology. We heard nothing from mid- 1995 until the beginning of 1997. It looked as though our proposal would be ignored. Zane Stein, the American Chiron specialist, took the initiative again in Febraury 1997 and sent literature about the mythology of Nessus to Dr. Marsden .The latter responded with a pledge to support the naming of the centaur in April 1997. "1993 HA2" is now officially Nessus.

Astronomers and astrologers have not previously co-operated on the issue of naming planets. Interesting, that it was the "bridge planets", the centaurs, which brought the two disciplines a small but significant step closer to each other. This would not have been possible without the openness and support of Jim Scotti and Dr. Brian Marsden.

The latter replied to my email of thanks, subsequent to the event, explicitly thanking us for our support in the research of centaur names and mythologies. He encouraged us to submit proposals for the four yet unnamed centaurs.

A special triad

Curious "coincidences" have often occurred in the history of the discovery and naming of planets. The astronomer Percival Lowell for example, calculated Pluto`s position at c.8° quite exactly, basing his calculations on the disturbances in the orbits of Uranus and Neptune. Lowell`s data were not in the least suited to such a task - as was later discovered. Moreover, the name "Pluto" was selected from a possible 100 proposals. The time had come for the discovery and naming of Pluto. Is the "coincidental" naming of the centaur Chiron not similar?

On observing the orbits of the three first discovered centaurs Chiron, Pholus and Nessus more closely, we note a further curious "coincidence": they first connect Saturn with Uranus (Chiron), then Saturn with Neptune (Pholus) and finally, Saturn with Pluto (Nessus), - one after the other - from Saturn`s gate in the inside to the transpersonal spheres of Pluto (diagram 3). Should we not consider these first three centaurs as a group in itself - a triad belonging together? Pholus and Nessus are maybe similar to Chiron, each one in its unique and unmistakeable way a "mentor" in opening up to the transpersonal.

The Centaur Research Project (CRP)

The further research of the centaurs will provide even more interesting revelations as to the deeper meaning of the entire centaur group. The centaurs may even show Uranus, Neptune and Pluto in a new astrological light. The three transsaturnians have, after all, their own "messengers" and "keys"! The astrological importance of Chiron will be clarified through comparison with Pholus and Nessus.

A reliable Ephemeride (see table) may be constructed (already the case with Chiron and Pholus) for Nessus, taking into account the perturbations of the major planets over hundreds of years. Thus nothing hinders further research. But when it comes to the subject of "new planets", one does however encounter two typical reservations, which I would briefly like to examine: Firstly, the frequently presented case of such small planets being irrelevant on the grounds of their indeed being too small. A flagrant error: Size and relevance do not correlate in the world of astrological symbols. This has been exemplified by Chiron - and through us also by Pholus. Incidentally, Pluto has no longer been placed in the same category as major planets in astronomical academic circles for some years, but is seen to be a double-minor planet (with its moon Charon. One reason being its elliptical orbit untypical of major planets).

Secondly, to the understandable fear of a flood of new factors of interpretation and the danger of "arbitrariness of interpretation": It is my opinion, that we live in a time of deeper scrutiny of the multifarious and complex connections in life. Is it not then appropriate, that we focus our attention more on the particular and less obvious, also in the field of astrology? That we differentiate more thoroughly? Therein lies the key to greater clarity and depth of interpretation. Moreover, new planets must not automatically be seen to be general major factors of interpretation. Some may possibly only be relevant to specific issues, a matter yet to be examined in detail. The inclusion of new factors of interpretation does not necessarily, in my opinion, lead to choices seen to be "suitable" but perhaps without substance being made in the selection of "fitting" factors of interpretation (that would be misuse), rather it enables us to fine-tune and complement the interpretation itself. New factors could improve an understanding of the complete picture of a human question. For example: Can the complex issue of wounding / healing / becoming whole be interpreted in an up-to-date and truly differentiated fashion, without the inclusion of Chiron? Or rather: If uranian, neptunian, plutonic etc. people do exist, why then should there not also be people influenced by Chiron, Pholus or Nessus?

Looking new factors of interpretation straight in the eye, as oppose to not being able to see the wood for the trees, is admittedly not an easy task. In the light of the revolutionary discoveries (since 1992, 42 still unnamed transneptunians and plutonians as well as seven centaurs) we will not be in a position to avoid these questions much longer. Besides: What astrologer would not prick up his ears and become curious on the prospect of a centaur perhaps being in conjunction with one of his major axes ?

As ONLY this first three centaurs, of all the new planets, have been named and thus become "tangible" until now, it seems logical to proceed with research on their astrological importance.

In order to promote research on all centaurs, I would therefore like to initiate a "Centaur Research Project". This could act as a centre for the exchange of experiences and gathering of information, as well as encouraging interested astrologers to research one or more centaurs. I would be glad to offer my skills in calculation as well as research materials at "cost price" so to speak, as far as is within my means. If the need arises, I can offer advice and support to particular projects thanks to my knowledge and experience in researching Pholus.

This project should bridge the gap between the non-German-speaking countries and ourselves, increasing the exchange and the possibility of meetings in the future. An article and a lecture on the first astrological findings and astronomical characteristics of Nessus is in preparation.

Good topic Ami...I have asked about NESSUS before, because mine conjuncts my DNA and ATROPOS, all at 28 Taurus, all in retrograde, and all within a few hours of each other..it also squares my CHIRON at 27 AQ, and sextlies my True Black Moon LILITH at 1.5 degrees...

I have not had the easiest life, actually very painful...I have also been in an abusive marriage, and engaged to an abusive drunk...which lasted 4 years...Extremely abusive physically, verbally, and emotionally(the hardest part)...I am lucky to be alive actually...God had other plans for me, and I am pretty tough!

In synastry, my bf's HOUSE 28 TA and ANGEL 29 TA, conjunct my NESSUS/ATROPOS/DNA...not quite sure what it means...perhaps he is the Angel sent to my house to rescue me? lol

IQ had warned me of my son's gf NESSUS some time back...he said it was an 'abuse alert'...due to her NESSUS conjunct DNA, square Sun...he thought she was my daughter(I think maybe in the past she could have been, or vice versa)...she is with my son, and very safe...

Hopefully this will give me some insight!
Btw Ami...your Nessus conjuncts my Moon at 20 TA, trines my KAALI at 20 VIR, and my ASC at 21 CAP!

So now, I added DEJA to the mix...at 7 SAG, it opposes his NESSUS at 7 GEM...by a few hours...is that bad or good? lol I feel like an idiot, but this is an area where I am totally lost...especially when I hear different things on which House systems to use...if my 5th House is at 5 GEM...would that mean this opposition would occur in this house? My House? I would hope it's not bad...and now I am a newbie, and don't claim to know much...about Astrology anyway...Oh, and I just checked now...and my Deja conjuncts his SN too...I don't see how this could be bad with us? Perhaps he is helping to heal my wounds? ... Yikes

We have, at less than a 2 degree orb, many at 0 degrees:

-his Dejanira conjunct my Chiron
-his Dejanira opposite my Uranus

I am meditating on your placements,Lucia. I am wondering WHAT the planet person feels vs the Nessus/Deja person.

I suspect when the Nessus person opens up the abuse in the planet person i.e His Nessus conjuncts your Venus.

I wonder how Deja works. My Deja conjuncts his moon.Do I bring my victim energy to his heart?
Prolly, but how would that work in real life?

You have some aspects I would need to think about.
Please,anyone --brainstorm

OK Nessus conjunct the ASC would mean you have a prominent Nessus.
It is important for you to deal with this energy in a proactive way.
You must go within and FACE your dark side. People who bully and do other evil things on others have not face themselves, imo.
The book "People of the Lie" discusses evil in every day life.
Evil can be summed up in one word---Lies.
When we lie to ourselves ,we are in danger of perpetuating evil on others.
We are projecting our own evil/Nessus nature on to others. Then, we can hate/bully etc others.
For a person with a prominent Nessus such as yours,JFK,it is incumbent on you to FACE it more so than other people whose Nessus will not demand it

Once you face it,you can use it for good like Popcorn

What aspects,particularly conjunctions,does Deja make.
IQ only counts small orbs---4 tops for a conjunction,I think.
For other aspects---just 2 degrees.

I'm been thinking about this too, Ami.

With the man's Sun or Moon conjunct Dejanira--one version of the Dejanira myth is that she's this "mankiller," a beautiful woman who gives her hero husband (Hercules) a shirt stained with the blood of the Centaur Nessus, and UNWITTINGLY, accidentally kills him--it causes him to throw himself onto a funeral pyre.

This definitely resonates with the Sun-Dejanira conjunction in my last relationship. I feel like I hurt him accidentally, when what I wanted was to protect myself from hurt, and then hurting him hurt me.

Mythological Dejanira has a bad end, but she's far from a victim. She's a warrior, a charioteer, in the beginning, before she marries.

The victimhood comes later. Nessus kidnaps her...Hercules kills Nessus and rescues her...as he's dying, Nessus lies to and tricks Dejanira into believing that keeping a vial of his blood will keep Hercules faithful to her. In fact, Hercules is UNfaithful, fathering babies by other women all over the world. Dejanira is scared he'll leave her forever, so she rubs some of Nessus's blood on his tunic. It burns so much that he throws himself on the fire to stop the pain, dying. She's so heartbroken and guilty that she hangs herself.

So with Dejanira-planet conjunction. The Dejanira person may feel a little desperate about the planet person, not at first but later in the relationship...and in his/her desperation and neediness, inadvertently hurt the planet person, and then feel so hurt by seeing what she's done that it hurts her.

The attempted rape of Dejanira strikes me as less distinctive than these other parts of the story--both when we look at the symbolism of Nessus AND Dejanira--because in Greek myth, pretty much EVERY male figure attempted to rape a nymph, woman, or even as goddess at some point, and pretty much EVERY female figure was a victim of attempted rape.

What's distinctive in the story is Nessus TRICKING Dejanira with a convincing lie as he dies, and Dejanira causing her love inadvertant pain. Also, Deja's totally failed attempt to keep from losing Hercules--he cheats all over the place anyway, and when she tries to keep him for good, it kills him.

The key element of Nessus is that, after he's already dying, he's not going to get any sex and he's not going to be saved, he tells Dejanira this lie JUST PURELY out of malice. It won't do anything for him.

So Nessus conjunct a planet in synastry may mean that one person brings out the other's malicious side? It's harder for me to figure out, though. If the Nessus person plays the Nessus role, then s/he might try to trick the planet person? I'm having trouble getting a feel for the Nessus story, the Dejanira resonates more.

Well,Lucia,I got my info from IQ.He seems to hone down the myths so they are usable.
If not ,there is too much info in them for them to be of any practical value lol
I hone Nessus down to the abuser energy.I hone Deja down to the victim energy.
I hone Chiron down to the wounded healer energy . Chiron can heal another person ,in synastry, but will never heal it's own wounds.
Chiron is hard to figure out,in a practical way, though lol

If I could say one word for Nessus --it would be the therapy asteroid.
You go to therapy so you can see the distortions you have about yourself and life.
It is your distortions that are making you sick.
Nessus in synastry will show you your distortions.
Hence,you can heal.

Really, we are ONLY as sick as our thinking.
That being said,it is very, very hard to change muddy ,unclear thinking to clear, rational thinking.
It is very painful!!!!!

I think "unintentionally hurting someone" or "unintentional hurt" is a narrow enough concept to be usable, for Dejanira.

Why would Nessus in synastry show you your distortions, instead of create distortions?

I don't see Deja as unintentional hurt.
I think unintentional hurt is not really an asteroid or a planet.
It is a human interaction,thing.

To me,it does not fit in with understanding Nessus and Deja.
That does not mean you are wrong.*I* just can't see it .
