Ceridwen,

I'm hoping you won't miss this 'cause of the different time zones. So I'll try asking. I'm trying to understand the astrological basis in my own chart for my "Neptune experiences."

You said, "Neptune could be *difficult*, not because it is inherently malefic, but as a transpersonal/ outer planet, we might not always access it consciously at any time."

Is this difficulty in accessing more so w/ hard aspects? 'Cause my 7th Neptune opposite 1st moon and Asc., and quincunx 12th Mars seems to allow me access.

When you say "access it consciously" do you mean have some sort of conscious control over the access versus simply being aware of experiencing the energy? Because I have no control over this access. It just comes and goes.

You also said, "But of course that depends on the overall chart. probably people with a lot of outer planets aspecting personal planets or angles, or even with many planets in Aquarius, Pisces or Scorpio, might be very "close" to these energies."

Each of my outer planets is making at least 2 aspects w/ each of my inner planets. Additionally Neptune also opposes Asc. However, I do not have any planets in Aquarius, Pisces, and only one in water-Neptune.

But I do have a predominance of earth in my chart, specifically 1st hse Taurus, which also contains at least 5 mid points.

As well, my 7th Neptune sextiles 5th Pluto and sextiles 9th Jupiter.

With all the practical energy in my chart, and only 2 soft aspects between Neptune and outer planets, it would seem that the hard aspects between Neptune and
1st moon/Asc/12th Mars are responsible for my Neptune experiences, wouldn't you say?

Thanks for your input. I'm trying as best I can, to understand this more fully. My "Neptune" experiences have been such a huge part of my life so far. I have been "protected" many times (in terms of my safety and well being) either through specific and vivid premonition dreams or through other "happenings."

Ami Anne had asked how Neptune feels. To me it feels more like a very personal friend and guide, one that I rely on pretty much all the time to communicate information that I can't get directly from the material world.

Anyway, Ceridwen, thanks for taking the time to explain

My astro opinion on this one - is pretty simple.

If you have an easy aspect between two planets - then it will benefit you.

If you have a hard aspect, it will be difficult.

If you have a conjunction the planets merge and live together forever more.. They are in perfect unison.. and I consider Neptune conjunctions just as blissful if not more, than the easy aspects.

easy for a reason.
You cannot pretend it is 'hard' because you woke up on the wrong side of the bed one morning and you decided you want to stand out and be a little bit "different"..

I don't have a prob with Neptune at ALL, it was Ami ann that started this thread not me.

Sun quincunx Neptune
“shows that you consider your responsibilities the most pressing in the world. There is an element of self sacrifice. You really believe people who suggest that only you can solve their problems. Because of this martyr quality, you seek the most demanding jobs or human situations in order to test your commitment to service. Unsure of yourself you continually try to find ways to prove your competence, but deplete your own energies.
Professional success will be difficult to achieve because of your preoccupation with endless trivia. Exaggerating the importance of superficial matters, you tend to get bogged down by them.”

From the book ‘Aspects and Personality’ by Karen Hamaker-Zondag

Sun Quincunx Neptune
“Your energy tends to be directed unrealistically. Your own sense of self changes as you learn from your own misappraisals of situations that are important to you. If you feel drained or frustrated it is always helpful to look at your overall direction in life and determine if you have taken on more through your high ideals than your physical vitality can sustain. It is always worthwhile to see how your ideas are received by others, to see if you can involve them in your vision. When you can't, avoid trying to do everything yourself. Slow down” http://www.cafeastrology.com/natal/quincunxinterpretations.html

Sometimes these quincunxs (aka Inconjuncts 150’) are obvious and recognised in personality, other times it can take a lot of self examination to identify with the planets energies and of course they (like all aspects) don't operate 100% of the time, they are simply a facet of your personality. Some say they cause health issues that are unresolved, underlying, dormant waiting to be triggered.... some say you stay at one end, to the detriment of the other, OR end up see-sawing between the two until you learn balance, integration of two unlikely pairings.

Next look at the signs, then houses and then aspects. Now the *others aspects* from these quincunxs/Yods as they can act like escape routes, that can help or hinder the expressions. A chart with lots of Yods (Finger of God) will always be *searching* for the divine answers to the meaning of life, to find synthesis
What tends to happen with quincunxs is that with progessions and transits will create temporary Yods aka 'Finger of god' configurations. Like with common TSquares, they create a temp Grand Square...

When you say

This suggests to me you are drawn to 'questionable relationships' with a tendency to dismiss or overlook pertinent factors as insignificant until you realise it's too late and perhaps you should have paid more attention.

"Your idealism and inflated expectations of others and life can lead you into very frustrating circumstances where you feel emotionally and physically drained. Your energy and emotions strengthen as you learn how and where to be involved in other people's projects. You have difficulty learning realistic boundaries with others and realistic limits as to what you can expect from yourself. Artistic expression can help give form to your humanitarian temperament." http://www.cafeastrology.com/natal/quincunxinterpretations.html

I have moon opp neptune. sometimes it can suggest tendencies towards eating disorders? confusions, illusions around mother. It would also add psychic awareness and sensitivities...

As well, my 7th Neptune sextiles 5th Pluto and sextiles 9th Jupiter.

Everyone born after 1940 will have a Neptune sextile pluto aspect.

I have Neptune singleton in the 7th, sextile Pluto in the 5th, and sextile Jupiter in the 9th. Completing this triangle is a trine between 5th Pluto and 9th Jupiter.

Neptune in 7th also opposes my moon in 1st and quincunxes my Mars (placed squarely) in the 12th.

I feel my Neptune pretty strongly in my sensitivity to environment, particularly to the energies of people.

I think I get what you mean by "dissolve," as in boundaries disappearing.

Hey, I've also got a Neptune singleton. Go read my experience on that thread, see if it resonates..

Linda Jones,

"When you say "access it consciously" do you mean have some sort of conscious control over the access versus simply being aware of experiencing the energy?"
Maybe it could be both, though sooner or later they will make themselves felt. If not through introspection, then we might attract Uranian, Neptunian or Plutonian experiences, coming seemingly from the outside.

The difference is that the personal planets are planetary energies, we are very aware of in everyday life, we even need them and use them to go from day to day on a physical, emotional or social level.

The transpersonal planets are extending beyond that. they are trans (beyond) personal. Transcendental. (which is derived from latin: transcendere: to go beyond).

Some call them "spiritual" or "evolutionary".

My view on them is that their purpose and nature is to transform us, with their different methods.

Personally I think that if there are strong aspects to them, we definitely inherit this symbolism; but it seems that there is quite some range of expression. Every planet has a certain range of manifestatio / expression, but with the outers the extreme ends of the range seem to be really that - extreme.

'And just think about their effect in transits! They can be rather dramatic.

"Additionally Neptune also opposes AscI."
So Neptune is conjunct DESC and might crop up especially in relationships or in your attitude towards relationship.
Are you quite dreamy? Idealistic? Striving for that elusive true love? That spiritual soulmate relationship, and nothing less would ever be enough?
Sometimes wearing too rose coloured glasses, only to then discover that your partners is simply human as well?
In the worse case scenario you could also fall prey to a Prince Charming, who might use his charm to dazzle you, so you ignore some serious flaws (like the fact that he might be already in a relationship, a priest, in a far away country, or someone who is not just as honest as you might wish, and someone who could be a bit too inclined to alcohol).

Of course that is a worst case scenario. In a better case he could be really spiritual, compassionate, gentle, artistic, creative, forgiving etc.

"it would seem that the hard aspects between Neptune and
1st moon/Asc/12th Mars are responsible for my Neptune experiences, wouldn't you say?"
Yes.

"I rely on pretty much all the time to communicate information that I can't get directly from the material world."
That is one of the positive things I am profitting from, too. This "instinct" and "knowledge" that seems to come from the nowwhereland, sometimes sounds plainly crazy and impossible, and yet I noticed that it was spot on most of the time.
A Neptunian can literally "hear the grass grow".

Anyway, Ceridwen, thanks for taking the time to explain

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing about neptune being a malefic, frankly I'm confused on that topic and have been for many years. There are more astrologers who think it is malific than just liz greene though, barbara watters for example. She said that neptune "distorts and perverts everything it touches." Im not sure as ive seen it go beautifully right just as many times as ive seen it go horribly wrong.

Just a few of many examples that I know personally...

Sun conj neptune 0* (9th h)- My mother and aunt(twins0, they are amazingly generous, compassionate, and altruistic, BUT they are both religious fanatics of the very unhealthy, negative sort. My mother actually used religion to abuse me and my sister and my aunt did the same to her kids.

Mars/sun conjunct neptune 1* in scorpio - Worst drug addict I have ever known and I've known a lot, he was truely hopeless, 55 and still on drugs, in and out of jail since the age of 12! He was also deeply loving and romantic.

Mars/mercury/neptune t square - patholical liar who intentionally used slander and lies to try and destroy others. Its hard to find any good points on this one as she cares for no one but herself.

Sun/merc/venus in pisces square neptune - user and parasite, also a liar, but he never stopped dreaming of finding "the one." Outwardly he had a very *sweet* nature, there was no meaness in him, he was just a bum.

The examples you gave were all hard aspects, so that could be part of the reason these situations resulted in people making poor decisions. =) I think another reason Neptune gets a bad rep is because we tend to notice planetary energies when they act like the adjectives we see attributed them, but there is often much more to be found beyond those descriptions. Neptune for example, is not only present when a person drives off a cliff while texting, but it exists when something beautiful touches you deeply, gives you chills, or moves you to tears. The positives of Neptune are big (like Jupiter), nebulous, unconditional, and hard to pin down. They are experiential, not describable, they move us to real states of timeless clarity, and condition-shattering awareness. They reveal the pain and pleasure of others as our own and make us want to give up everything for collective peace.

The part people tend to focus on is how poorly we react to Neptune; Being faced with the idea of ego-loss and the obliteration of "the rules or walls which define reality". In the 9th house for example, those rules would likely be religious or political and challenge of those topics can result in violent reaction. Drugs are another way we escape from Neptune, because we intoxicate our self to avoid the experiences which effect us deeply. We instead chose to know what our experience will feel like every time. Both career drug users and career criminals rely on the feeling of security under, as well as the control they have over when they experience the structure of drugs and prison. The pathological liar reacted to Neptune by both making others feel her own pain and using pain/slander to make people never want to break down her walls. The "bum" was so afraid to connect with others (Neptune), he kept "the One" perpetually in his future and placed his friends on pedestals by making them his caretakers. All these are not caused by Neptune poking people with his pointy stick, these people were not afflicted with their situations in the same way people are afflicted with blindness. These people are completely capable of seeing, but choose to walk around with their eyes closed, pretending the person they are talking to is a big white dog in the spotted turtleneck. Neptune is not the closed eyelids, it is the emphasis on our eyes having been closed and the sweet melody telling us it's safe for us to open them. Open or closed, a person's eyes see images, but only when one's eyes are open can they truly see the state of things.

Nobody is a victim of their astrological circumstance. Just as your muscles are capable of causing your hand to utilize potential energy and turn it into kinetic energy. That energy and those muscles are not to blame if you pat someone in comfort or slap them in anger. A comet slips through space, slams into the earth, and kills every living creature on the planet. It also carries with it a single celled life form which evolves on earth to become the custodian race of the universe. Bad for humans, good for everyone else. Energies, forces, and objects are not good or bad. How we use and perceive them determines that. I chuckled a couple of days ago as I read a reference to Mercury Retrograde on a non-astrological site. Even though they were using the reference to make fun of people who believe in astrology, I mused at the idea that somehow they knew Mercury Retrograde meant something "BAD!". The reality is, Mercury Retrograde, Saturn, Chiron transiting one's left nipple, aren't "BAD" they are things which require adjustment and some folks don't do well with challenges. The idea that the universe is designed in a way which deals out beneficial or malefic circumstances upon the heads of us lowly humans, though traditional, is a terribly anthropocentric view of astrology.

I was also going to add that I wonder if Sun square Neptune causes someone to doubt or not believe in themselves. I reason this seeing as how Neptune rules Pisces, which is co-ruled by Jupiter, and Jupiter rules Sagittarius which I somehow associated with religion and a "belief system." Does that make any kind of sense?!

That certainly makes sense. I have Neptune square Moon and grew up ignoring my emotional state. As I got older, believing the gravity of my own emotional and personal space, became difficult. I have set aside a lot of care to make sure I listen to my self emotionally. In the beginning It was a lot like listening to static on the radio, but when I was ready, some pretty gnarly emotions began to arise. It was pretty surprising to experience such strong emotion because after I shut down, any emotion which came up seemed to lack genuineness. I knew the emotion was there, and I could feel it, but only the tip of the iceberg would ever surface, so it always felt a bit fake.
