BINGO ! quote: G: You pleaded guilty to statuatory rape? P: So that the case could continue behind closed doors.
SO THAT THE CASE COULD CONTINUE BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. This wasn't all our rape - i don't believe that the girl resisted THAT much (go on, shoot me down!) He only pleaded guilty to protect her from the press, which is what we said in the beginning... and it makes perfect sense so thank you CHOC for posting this!!! It means we would have pleaded INNOCENT otherwise! IP: Logged |

oooookay - You have no idea if he pleaded guilty to protect HER from the press. Just as likely it was to protect himself from the press. lol - I was wondering why this thread went on so long because who really cares about this topic but I'm fascinated by responses on both sides that will read whatever they want into the case due to their own biases.

My sentiment exactly...only I'm not fascinated by whatever they're saying. IP: Logged |

AG,ditto. Well, there must be some morbid fascination to see why it STILL goes on (for me), or otherwise I wouldn`t have checked this I guess.

I like how it has become everyone else's fault but Polanski's now. It's the Hollywood's fault because of what they allow to people It's society's fault for sexualizing females at an early age It's America's fault for being such a prude It's Europe's fault for idolizing him It's the judge's fault because he thought Polanski should go to jail It's the legal system's fault because they allow judges to drop plea bargains It's France's fault because they wouldn't ship him to America while the case was hot It's the girl's fault because she had sex before It's the mother's fault because she was a "stage mom"/where the hell was she anyway It's Switzerland's fault for having laws for allowing criminals to ship back to America It's the law enforcement's fault for not giving them a warning It's the media's fault for creating a lynch mentality It's the Manson's family's fault because he's suffered so much No. It's Roman Polanski's fault because he raped a 13 year-old girl. No more excuses, it's time for him to accept the consequences of running away from his actions for 30 years. IP: Logged |

Just throwing in there that sometimes famous people do go to jail for their crimes. Tommy Lee went to jail for 8 or 9 months for kicking his then wife Pamela Anderson in her butt.If you run, you look guilty. OJ laying in the floor boards of that white Ford Bronco was not the picture of innocence. UMMM, I don't know how to pretty this up, so I will just be direct, and say, I don't know of many thirteen year olds who willingly participate in sodomy, oh I'm sure there are some out there, but if she wanted to do it, then what is the point of crying rape afterwards. Kinda hard to orchestrate such a detailed event in hopes of receiving money in the future. He likes young girls. If it happened once you could say all kinds of bad judgement, crazy seventies and all that stuff, but apparently he's a perv and that is that. Because someone is a brilliant artist has no bearing on whether they are or are not a douchebag. Finally, in this case, I think the victims opinion should be considered first and foremost, she wants it dropped, drop it. IP: Logged |

When it comes to the Law, that unfortunately doesn't matter. He commited a crime on our soil so he should be prosecuted for it, whether or not someone wants it dropped.
quote: pidua and benedict moon - do you also then agree that her mother should have been charged with:1. child endangerment 2. neglect 3. contributing to the delinquncy of a minor
I'm sorry but this kind of logic is twisted and disgusting. Polanski is not responsible for his OWN actions, but the mom is for putting her in that kind of danger. What other excuses do you have? The grass did it?

**Because someone is a brilliant artist has no bearing on whether they are or are not a douchebag.** So true - my father is a brilliant artist and is also extremely twisted, abused me, and has strange sexual tendancies.

Yeah, but he was a brilliant artist, so cut him some slack.

ChocI get your point in this thread and agree with some of the things you've said here, but I thought that last comment was way out of line. That was pretty cold to use something so personal to mark your point. EDIT: While I was typing you posted. I'm making reference to you using Moonwitch's post. IP: Logged |

anyone here read ROSHOMON? a classic japanese story made into a film with toshiro mifune, claire bloom and yul brynner (if i remember right; and funnily it is about what happens to people's memories!)i'm sure there are other stories with the same basic message, like the blind indian men and the elephant... trying a case 30 years later will be a virtual impossibility considering the memory factor... but screw justice let's have our pound of flesh by all means!
