Order of Ma'at is seen here. My opinion.

Hospitaller: One may stare into the light, until one becomes the light. I've done it many times.
Balian of Ibelin: [throws a rock at a bush that catches fire by the spark] There's your religion. One spark, a creosote bush. There's your Moses. I did not hear it speak.
Hospitaller: That does not mean that there is no God. Do you love her?
Balian of Ibelin: Yes.
Hospitaller: The heart will mend. Your duty is to the people of the city. I go to pray.
Balian of Ibelin: For what?
Hospitaller: For the strength to endure what is to come.
Balian of Ibelin: And what is to come?
Hospitaller: The reckoning is to come for what was done one hundred years before. The Muslims will never forget. Nor should they. (Karma)
[the Hospitaler slowly walks away as a second bush several yards from the burning one catches fire. The Hospitaler is nowhere to be seen in the clear and open desert]

------------------

Balian of Ibelin: You go with the army?
Hospitaller: My order is with the army.
Balian of Ibelin: You go to certain death.
Hospitaller: All death is certain. I shall tell your father what I've seen you become.
[rides away]

-------------------

Balian of Ibelin: What man is a man who does not make the world better.

-------------------

Richard's Knight: We crusade to recover the kingdom of Jerusalem
Balian of Ibelin: Go till the men speak Italian and continue until they speak something else
Richard Coeur de Lion: We come along this road to find Balian of Ibelin, who defended Jerusalem against the Saracens.
Balian of Ibelin: I am a blacksmith
Richard Coeur de Lion: And I am the king of England
Balian of Ibelin: [pauses] I am a blacksmith.

---------------------

Hospitaller: I put no stock in religion. By the word religion I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the will of god. I have seen too much religion in the eyes of too many murderers. Holiness is in right action, and courage on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves, and goodness. What god desires is here
[points to head]
Hospitaller: and here
[points to heart]
Hospitaller: and what you decide to do every day, you will be a good man(or woman) - or not. (Note: This is karma)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_Hospitaller

Hospitaller: [to Balian] You sail now for Jerusalem as your father wished. If God has purpose for you there, he'll keep you safe in his hands.
[pauses]
Hospitaller: If not, God bless you.

Atum's name is thought to be derived from the word 'tem' which means to complete or finish. Thus he has been interpreted as being the 'complete one' and also the finisher of the world, which he returns to -watery chaos(flood)- at the end of the creative cycle. As creator he was seen as the underlying substance of the world, the deities and all things being made of his flesh or alternatively being his ka.

Blake all those bits from mythology and history does convey a lot to be learnt and understood..the lost cities, the tree of life, the fruits of karma, egyptian rulers anubis, horus, ra, atum...The stories of reincarnation vasuki and kurma avataar... all quite vast, complex and equally fascinating.

Well, back to liars, is it learned behavior?

Back to liars?

Ok I have failed again then.

What does it take to get through to you?

i refuse to believe that people are born knowing or not.

It just can not be that simple.

But time and time again, here it is slapping me in the face like a newspaper rolled up with sandpaper, Barry Bonds is swinging it.

Pathological liars are usually caught out by their own behavior especially when they try to discredit another person.

The Karma of Lying

In the Samadittha Sutta, the Buddha taught that lying, abusive and divisive speech were unskillful behavior, while abstaining from lying, abusive and divisive speech is skillful. He goes on to say in the Ambalatthika-rahulovada Sutta, while giving instruction to his son, Rahula, that, “when anyone feels no shame in telling a deliberate lie, there is no evil, I tell you, he will not do. Thus, Rahula, you should train yourself, ‘I will not tell a deliberate lie even in jest.’” The Abhidhamma lists Right Speech as abstinence from lying, slandering, abusive language, and idle talk.

Bhakha Tulku, in a teaching given at Kunzang Palyul Chöling some twenty years ago, explained the results of negative karma in that first there are the main result, a similar result, a reaction result, and a place or condition result. If one examines the cause, then there is a direct result of that cause. Jetsunma Ahkön Lhamo explained in a later teaching, The Antidotes to Negative Karma, what these results might be. In the case of lying, the direct result would most likely involve someone lying to you or about you or blaming you unjustly. There would also be a similar result, meaning that the direct result would occur in conditions similar to the original cause. Then there would a reaction effect, meaning that there would be the development of a habitual tendency to lying. In other words the effect would not just pop out of nowhere but develop as a result of certain habitual behaviors. The effect of place and habitual tendency associated with lying could include people failing to believe anything you told them or being wrongfully jailed without guilt.

The antidote to the negative karma of lying is to be very truthful in all matters, practicing Right Speech even to your detriment. By applying the antidote, we are able to change our habitual tendency of lying and stop creating negative causes which produce suffering for ourselves. It takes a lot of hard work to purify negative habitual tendencies, but the results are worth it as it will not only reduce our own suffering, but the suffering we cause in others we lie to or about whom we lie.

Lying, divisive speech, abusive speech and gossip all help create the environment in which all other negative behavior can take place.

my cousin has had his share of lies, so much that i never beleive what he says. he could say something like "its raining outside" and i wouldnt believe him.

this is how bad he's gotten, one time he was on a school trip to paris with his friends a few days into the trip he gives my aunt (his mom) a call and claims that he was mobbed and had no money left!! his mom goes psycho and head over heals to send him more money.
later we discover that he had spent all of the money and was not mobbed he just needed some more!!
i worry about him, he's just 21 - OMG HE TURNS 22 TODAY!! I SHOULD SEND HIM A BIRTHDAY CARD !!!
i will rant on about him later, it is his birthday the poor lad thanks to this thread i just remembered!

hah what are the odds!

I knew a pathological liar once; he was completely ridiculous. We were about 17 - 18, and a group of girls and boys used to socialise, including this chap. He always used to make up such far-fetched stories about himself, presumably to impress one or all of us. He said that once he'd had to do a thorocotomy (sp?) on someone on the street because they couldn't breathe. He said he used his car key to make the incision, having sterilised it with his lighter.

It didn't make me dislike him, I just felt sorry for him. That said, I couldn't be around him and couldn't stand listening to his stories for more than about three seconds without blowing up and screaming at him lol. I didn't like the reaction he caused in some of my friends; they'd smile and nod to him but mock him behind his back - I mean, really what is the point of that??

My reputation is of the opposite; blunt truth. My parents, family and friends always ask my opinion with caution, knowing I can't lie. As I said in the 'post your eyes' thread (http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum23/HTML/000191-4.html my eyes are a very transparent window and they show my true meaning. I can't even hide disappointment, it shows in my eyes.
