Sure, you *can* eat them raw. Eeeyikes. Maybe better to blend them up with something extremely sweet and make a smoothie, haha.

See why I said taste them first?

Gram grew up on a farm in the Ozarks, I often wish she were here to teach me.

Simple plastic container, or even glass:

Really is that simple

See now IRL, disbelief meets skill=interesting conversation especially if one is dressed well at all

Nothing at all wrong with drinking 'shine, personally would pass, too powerful

Now amongst a group who is not exactly on the same page..how to make clear water interesting?

How does it work as a coffee substitute, anyway? It doesn't have that pep to it like Chicory or Yerba Mate, does it?

If so, I'm making some dandelion coffee!

Problem is, the dirt more than likely is also inside the root, i'd soak in cold water for a day or so, and rinse rinse rinse

Could probably par boil to also remove it

My next project is dandelion wine

I used a scrub brush on mine.

Then I roasted them in the oven, til they toasted nicely.

It gave them a nutty flavour.

Hmm...yeah, I soaked them like I do most of our vegetables, to get the dirt loose. But I did want to taste one first, and...uh, yeah.

I'll be doing something with them besides eating them raw (bummer, because of course I can't stand cooking in any form, at least for food's sake).

I don't know what the previous owners did in the garden, but I know that we don't use pesticides, and I personally don't worry so much about a tiny amount of dirt in my food from the garden.

But it's hard to know what people were doing before we got here.

Gahhh! The cuteness!
We did have a pet goat growing up, but he was a male goat, and a pet. So no milking or anything. And of course my mom feeds her animals until they're obese, so the poor little guy could only waddle around.

Here are pictures from where the rest of my family lives now, where I grew up. They have goats and horses, and the neighbors have cows. We used to have cows in our pasture, but my cousins and I were afraid of them, haha.

Yes. Yes I do. Blechh. Roasted or sauted would do much better, I would think. Maybe even in a stew, with plenty of seasonings?

What an excellent and interesting conversation!

I only hope those who are bitter, took notes

Yeah, Padre.

See, aquaguy? You might have a brilliant future in goat herding, but first you have to BELIEVE.

Oh how I love The Sound of Music My 3 year-old watched it with me, and he has this huge smile on his face.

Thank you, Ellyn.

So...what synonym for belief doesn't imply doubt?

And philosophically, how far can one really go with certainty about their expectations?

And what does having that certainty gain them?

I wonder...hmm.

ETA: Sorry, I guess all that was off topic. I saw on a thread in DD that you (Ellyn) were saying that faith implies doubt,
and I've been meaning to ask you, "What doesn't?" I was just too lazy to look through the DD threads trying to find the one
where you said that.

My kids always loved that one as well.

Oh man, that Kinks is cool!

The belief thing, hm.

Well, if you don't have something inside, you don't possess it.

It eludes your grasp, don't you see.

Belief and Faith are not synonymous with Knowledge.

If you Know something, it's yours.

Of course I was teasing you with the name, but the Truth remains.

I never paid attention to the lyrics before. They perfectly fit this thread!

I miss the hippies and their luddite music.

Like Jethro Tull- Songs from the Wood

Let me bring you songs from the wood
To make you feel much better than
you could know
Dust you down from tip to toe
Show you how the garden grows
Hold you steady as you go...
Join the chorus if you can
It'll make of you an honest man...

Musicians don't make stuff like that anymore...not that I know of.

It occurred to me as an afterthought that the moral of that scene seems to be, yodeling goatherds get the babe.

A word to the wise!

Er...I've been thinking so much "in the gray" lately, it's hard for me to get it.

Faith seems to me like an educated guess, something you half-grasp, half-don't.

I should get a new screen name, this one confuses people.

Maybe I will change it to "Guesswork" one of these days.

I still say that people greatly overestimate the power of attitude. If having a positive attitude was the answer to all these problems like people claim it is everyone would have a positive attitude and everyone would be content and successful. At the end of the day it all comes down to luck. The people who have positive attitudes and are "confident" (f*ck i still hate that word) are that way because luck has worked in their favor. All it takes is one lucky break to totally change someone from a cynic to an incurable optimist. By that same token all it takes is one stroke of bad fortune to turn an optimist into a pessimist.
