What's haplogroups and subclades?? I'm interested now lolI've always wanted to get my genes checked out so i could trace back to where Im actually from and see the migration paths of my descendants and all that. Is that what haplogroups and subclades are kinda about?? Well, this is MY opinion..(thanks to a documentary i watched haha)..every single human being's DNA can be traced back to 1 man, and 1 woman (ie. "adam & eve" not the biblical ones)..so having said that, we are all technically brothers and sisters, whether we like it or not, regardless of where our locations is on this planet or what colour our skin is :P THAT's what they meant when they said the "brotherhood of man". Like, my family is Greek but i was born in Australia and have never been there, not once ever. I speak the language fluently and can read and write (not as well though) cos my parents sent me to Greek school, speak greek to my grandparents but like, I'm not greek, if you get what i mean..like, how can i be greek if ive never even been there and have absolutely no interest to go (seriously, i'm going to Africa first to save the nation from AIDS and other social problems, then I'm going to South America, then I'm going to Asia) This is why this sorta stuff i dont get too focused on..here in Australia i'm not considered a Dinky Di Anglo Aussie cos of my ethnicity but over in greece, my relatives would never accept me as Greek because i speak greek with an aussie accent and i'd be made fun of and ostracised. Who cares, we're all brothers and sisters anyways :P IP: Logged |

you're correctmigration routes yes...I understand about that other stuff. I am well aware of that stuff. I do read. I took a mitochondria DNA test to learn about my roots on my mom's mother's side. My mother never knew her mother nor any of that side of the family. I wanted to know more about where I came from on that side of that family.
I am part African-American on my father's side. I never knew him nor his side of the family. I also want to know about my roots on that side of the family. I obviously got some Black African slave roots, but I also want to know if there is anything else like Native American and European on that side of the family. My father is supposed to have some Native American and French too on his mother's side. I also would like to know if similar ancestry is on his father's side. Many African-Americans have white in them due to history of white masters raping their slave women. Some have Native American too. any ways...I plan to get a Y DNA test to find out my Y Haplogroup.
I know very little of my roots, and I feel that I should know my roots just like Alex Haley knows his and wrote the book,ROOTS. That was mainly about tracing his roots back to Africa. He was the descendant of African slaves. Many African-Americans don't know their roots. They are not in touch with their ancestral languages. They don't even have their ancestral surnames. They have what is called "slavenames" which means that they got the surnames of the slaveowners. Slavery was abolished in USA in 1865. Civil Rights Act was in 1964. Interracial mixing bans were abolished in 1967. I was born 4 years after that. I don't believe in observing July 4th as Independence Day. Technically,it had nothing to do with my black ancestors nor my Native American ancestors. July 2nd to me is Independence Day because the Civil Rights Act was on that day in 1964.
I was born from an interracial relationship of white woman and a black man.
btw...there is nothing wrong with diversity in things. I feel that the problems is the intolerance of diversity. many people are proud of their cultures You'll see this with a lot of Blacks here in USA, especially with their ancestral past and the struggles that they had. Blacks are minorities here in USA. I am minority here in USA too because I am not White. There is still a lot of racial prejudice here in USA. Heck there is lot of racial prejudice here in Sacramento which my mother pointed out to me. I've always believed that there should be racial harmony. I always believed that there should be unity and universal love between all human beings. I believe in my fellow Pisces Moon, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's dream about those things. I am idealistic in those ways. I feel that my interracial parentage, multiracial family background was the main reason why. It had nothing do with being a Pisces Moon nor strong Neptune influence. Not everything can be explained by Astrology. I am realistic in that racial prejudice is still a problem here in USA. It doesn't take an election of half white, half black man to end those issues. His election definitely doesn't mean that racism is a thing of the past. I learned this stuff the hard way when I was 9 years old. I've been called "nigger" numerous times. Just saw this quote: "Never explain yourself to anyone. Those who like you do not need it, and those who dislike you will never accept your explanation".More than 90% of arguments in LL are because trying to explain posts. Knowing Lara, I can attest that what she meant was something like: "Nobody from UK/US these days who has plenty of cash and is very horny sleeps with a black sex worker in the Caribbean or a Thai sex worker in Thailand due to increased rates of STDs in the sex worker community of these two countries." Whilst spontaneously replying, she just cut short most of that sentence, because she is not writing to Lawyers about a Legal case, she is spontaneously commenting to friends. Nobody on this forum can be Racist. Lets get over the needless racism accusations.

"Nobody from UK/US these days who has plenty of cash and is very horny sleeps with a black sex worker in the Caribbean or a Thai sex worker in Thailand due to increased rates of STDs in the sex worker community of these two countries."but she didn't say that she didn't say anything about sex workers she said "NO ONE EVER sleeps with a Thai girl or a black girl in the Caribbean - full of AIDS and STD's." I don't think she was being racist.
but she said things in a general way that it's like she just types stuff without reflection. I could understand why others reacted in a certain way to what she typed. I was mainly furious with her calling another person a "braindead idiot"
That's the 2nd most condescending stuff that I have ever seen in this forum yet, and this is coming from a 5th Dimension,Karma free person. I feel that is about as true as Madonna being a virgin.

Glaucus, I'm so sorry that you had to experience being called a n***a (sorry, but outside of a rap song that word is just too offensive to even type or write), that sort of stuff just makes me want to cry at the pain and suffering of being degraded in such an idiotic (I think im using the word in the right context here, yes? lol), lower-thinking way.Lol, yeah i figured you’re very well read. Its evident in the eloquent way you write and i appreciate nothing more than a well written piece of writing. A+ student in English, am i correct?? You seriously touched on a subject that I am very interested in. Despite coming from a homogenous family I still want to do that test because I want to know if my bloodline has any Turkish in it (thanks to the Ottoman Empire, not sure if they affected our part of Greece as much though..this is why i want to know), Bulgarian (thanks to the Balkan war) or Macedonian (thanks to our village being next door to the borders of Macedonia & Bulgaria). Also my family is pretty close to where Alexander the Great is from so i want to see if we have any links there (seeing as he spread his seed so much haha). People in my family don't look Mediterranean (the typical dark hair, dark eyes, dark olive skin look that can be somewhat attributed to the Turkish staying there for over 400yrs..surely their DNA would have merged with ours..everythign else in their culture did, including Language) at all, we look Eastern European cos we're all fair. All the men in my family have the eyes that are as blue as the sky and my great grandmothers and aunties were the original Barbie Dolls, full on Nordic looking with blonde blonde hair and blue blue eyes. Oprah did it and found out her ancestry traced back to the Zulu tribe of Africa, i can SO see her as a big, beautiful, strong African Warrior Queen. She also said she planned on getting buried in Africa in the traditional Zulu way. By the way, do you remember a few years ago when individuals who were of white and black ancestry were claiming they were Tom Jefferson's (i think but im pretty sure) descendants and that they had a right to the inheritance and to included in the estate? So true! We learnt that when we were studying the American Revolution (yep, i took that subject in High school, wanting to understand my collective roots and how history got me to where i am today in society) that many of the American forefathers did rape or have sexual relations with their staff (sorry, wont call them slaves). Imagine all the babies to come from that and the generations of individuals with mixed ethnicity such as yourself that have been confused and angry too, im guessing, at not being acknowledged for their rightful place in history. You have such an interesting and multifaceted ethnicity and parentage and were born in interesting times when it meant something different to what it does now. I live in Melbourne and its VERY multicultural here, so interracial relationships are the norm here, especially in my family so it'll be interesting to see the offspring of these combinations (last week, my uncle's son was born in South Africa..the child's ethnicity will be Greek, Croation, Serbian, South African, Australian..how's that for mixed?? lol). Being a cancer, my roots and my history are so very important to me, i feel that if i dont know them then i'm missing a very vital piece of myself and my whole life has been about trying to restore that wholeness. And I won't for 1 second claim that I know what its like to be black but my whole life I have felt a very strong connection to black history in both America and Africa. Including the sociology behind a cultural and ethnic identity. Especially with hip hop culture, that's how i got into learning all this stuff cos i wanted to understand the meaning behind their poetry/lyrics and wanted to listen to hip hop that rose above the "hood mentality", that's when i got into Erykah Badu, The Roots, Dead Prez, Rage Against the Machine, Jill Scott etc etc. I truly believe that this is because i've had many many many many many many many past lives in both Africa and America at many different points in history. I even think i was around when the great Martin Luther King made that speech. A profound historical moment for me that takes my breathe away was when that black lady was going on the bus after work (in the days of segregation) and refused to give her seat up to a white, upper-class man who had probably been sitting at his nice, comfortable desk in his nice, comfortable office while she had probably been working like a dog for like, 15 hours on her feet doing hard physical labour. That split second decision and act of defiance is an amazing moment in history. Funny you mention Sacramento, my aunty had a black boyfriend from there when i was like, 5 or 6. I loved him to death. His name was Calvin and he was the epitome of the black hip hop culture of the 90s. He took me to his basketball games and would sing in his gorgeous D'Angelo voice when we'd be driving in the car. I drew a picture of me, my aunty and Calvin when i was in primary school and seeing that picture again a few years ago, i was surprised to see that i hadn't coloured Calvin in black, but kids dont see these things. And i agree with you on that point about Obama but...maybe it wont END issues but maybe its the BEGINNING of putting these differences behind us to create that universal unity. Wont happen overnight, thats for sure. Maybe another 50 yrs, 100 even. But its definitely the beginning of the end. I honestly believe i was supposed to live these lives in the times of racism, revolution and slavery because Im supposed to bring ppl together in this life. Comes with being a no.11 in numerology, i suppose *shrugs* but yeah, that's the higher purpose my life has taken. I got this hilarious msg the day after he got elected. All it said was: Whites to report to the cotton fields, 7AM tomorrow morning

When you made the assumption that all Carribean Black and Thai women were full of STDs, you rightfully we're called out because the assumption was pretty racist. Amowls even posted information to the CONTRARY so maybe you would rethink that prejudice. If you don't want to be attacked in the future, I suggest you clear yourself up, not because you're blunt....but really because you make statements with NO factual basis. IP: Logged |
