Nessus - the buck stops here.
"The 3rd Centaur to be discovered is one that seems to address issues to do with the abuse of power, and it too has ancestral implications. It seems that Nessus brings opportunities to understand and release deep patterns of helplessness, being taken advantage of, and being oppressed. This is particularly relevant for people raised in a culture where they are in a minority group. Nessus processes really do seem to bring to an end the unfathomable ties that bind us to people, places, and situations. We can psychoanalyse our bonds, do 'tie cutting exercises', sweat and strain to be free of situations which burn with relentless continuity, but only when such endeavours are in harmony with the deeper timing of the soul will they result in deep release. And when they do, the healing is unmistakeable. Nessus activations correspond with times when things really do end, finish and transcend to another level, when release occurs and when the turning point is reached. This sometimes happens through an intensification of suffering. The end of falsely hopeful innocence is signalled by Nessus transits, and the opening of a deeper wisdom. Nessus sometimes correlates with itching and burning skin as occurs in instances of eczema, nettle rash and allergy for instance. This accords neatly with the Greek myth in which Nessus attempted to abduct and take advantage of Heracles wife, Deianira. Heracles saw the rape about to happen and shot Nessus. As he lay dying, Nessus gave Deianira a potion containing his heart's blood and semen, saying that the potion would ensure Heracles faithfulness to her. When she became unsure of Heracles fidelity she smeared the potion on his shirt but Nessus had lied; the mixture, impregnated with his toxic blood was poisonous and it burned Heracles terribly. To escape the pain Heracles threw himself onto a funeral pyre. Appalled by what had happened, Deianira committed suicide." -Sue Tompkins and Melanie Reinhart www.melaniereinhart.com/melani...urs.php

***

THE REDEMPTION OF NESSUS:
1- Introduction
" In the very little time since its discovery in 1993, Nessus has been associated with bad and ugly things, primarily coming from the mythological association it has with poison and death, and the proximity of its orbit to Pluto. This associations have been confirmed by observation, but have precluded an understanding of the process involved. This happens when mythology is used too literally.

Take the story of Deianira, for example; isn't it also a part of the Nessus dynamics? Heracles, Nessus and Deianira are a triangle, a unity, like three aspects of the same thing. Heracles is a very violent and primitive "raw" type, hardly an archetype for humanity... it is more an archetype of what is raw in us, like a mythological counterpart of the centaurs. His ways are violently cruel and deadly like the creatures he kills.

We must see the whole process involved and not only the negative part. What is the dynamics of Nessus that manifests itself in a monstrous, poisonous way? The vulnerability of Deianira, Nessus lust, and Heracles rawness are part of the same cruel story. If I take Heracles as "raw" humanity, then the "bad blood" associated with Nessus is the consequence or continuation of the cruelty and violence that Heracles represents. What Nessus does is leave Heracles violence and cruelty naked, which means he could be the cure, for example, not only the disease. Like an homeopathic remedy or a vaccine, the disease has to come out in order to heal it...

History and the past, from a psychological point of view, are alive, not dead, and will "come to hunt us" as if from the future or from "destiny", but it is really the unredeemed past transformed into something that seems to poison us. However, we are the poison, we created it. Nessus "beast" is our creation, and he will do what he was programmed to do. Our dark and raw past is not that bad. Inside of it, in its heart, is the vulnerability of Deianira, our inner child..."

***

Nessus is a planet that addresses the healing of abuse patterns. The abuse can be psychological, physical or sexual in nature; it can be 'potentially inappropriate' contact or behavior; and it can involve revenge. Nessus has themes that feel like 'the return of karma' and what goes around comes around. Actions have consequences, but you can almost always discover the source. Nessus is a very good diagnostic tool in handling situations with these themes. It shows us where and how we've been hurt in the past, and how we're likely to hurt others -- and how we can heal those hurts.

"Nessus speaks of two kinds of abuse: one, the insidious kind that doesn't seem like it later on. The other, the kind that was obviously so. Both are about the same thing, and yet in the not-so-obvious kind, there is the problem of not really having a sense of the scale of what happened. Abuse and neglect suffered unconsciously are that much further out of the reach of healing. Bringing them to awareness is often the last thing we want. Dealing consciously with abuse means dealing consciously with the fact of an abuser. In the case of a loved family member, or a family situation that will be challenged or totally disrupted by the fact that we were harmed by them, or by the revelation of a secret that has been guarded for generations, it's natural to be extremely reluctant to proceed, even if we really need to. Family politics can push us down and make the task seem daunting and even stupid. Especially if that abuse or neglect was just a "product of the times." Of course, often, it was much, much more."

I don't know whether I had a Nessus transit at the time though, but Nessus in 11th rang true for me. Thanks for the link Peri.

Harsh NESSUS aspects are present in each and every sexual serial killer's charts.

The most dangerous aspect for a woman is NESSUS exactly square her Venus or Dejanira, she has the maximum chances of being assaulted by someone she trusts.

Pornstars or prostitutes who love their job, they too may have Nessus afflictions to Sun, Eros, Lust, Amor or Valentine.

It is very difficult for a guy who has Nessus exact square Mars in Scorpio to control his sexual desire for abusive sex, even in relatoinships, especially if his Saturn or Mercury is also retrograde. An Ixion affliction along with Nessus affliction makes things very difficult.

Ladies without Aries in their chart who have Pisces Moons or Moon in 6th, it is wise to check for a Nessus affliction before full fledged dating.

Advice after a recent true incident: Never ever date a Pisces or Scorpio guy whose Nessus exactly conjuncts your Ascendant [less than 1 degree orb]. Its a recipe for disaster. He will physically, emotionally or even Astrally abuse you when you least expect it.

I DID! A scorp with Nessus (4'42 Virgo) right on my ascendant(3'51)/mercury(4'31)!
In december last year we kind of broke up after seeing each other several times, but... I got this subtle sign from him a few weeks ago on which I didn't really respond.
This is absolutely the last guy I would think bad about, he's sooo pure, pure innocence I would say! That's what attracted me to him.. (I really thought I could learn my biggest lesson with him, but now I'm involved with someone who's much more like me although I must admit; I'm more attracted to this Nessus on my ascendant).

Interesting right now is that T. Nessus is conj. both our natal Mars 19 & 20 Aqua - in my case a few minutes separating.
My current one has Venus at 20 Aqua.

I can't find the words to underline the strong symbolism of Nessus in my/our case (right now).

Okay...i'm a little worried, and this is one of the reasons why I posted this question. I noticed that my boyfriend has his nessu conj. his Midheaven by 1 and it is squaring his ascendant(-1) and squaring pluto in the first (5)...the other aspects are all positive.

He has had a really rough life but abusive towards me? never. should I be worried? My nessu resides in my 12th and since our birthdays are kind of close together (okay fine two days apart!), it is in the same sign and in synastry they conjunct within a 5 degree orb.

Thoughts? ideas? guidance?

Let me know if you want me to post charts if it would help make it easier for you.

I wish I knew about the Nessus conj ASC a lot sooner. My last ex (which was very verbally/emotionally abusive) and the worst relationship I have ever been in. It has taken me a long time to get over the situation and I'm still not to a place where I feel comfortable being in a long term relationship. Anyway, he has Moon in Scorpio and his Nessus is EXACTLY conj to my ASC, opposite my Mars and square my Amor!

What about Pholus, Ixion and Dejanira in synastry?

IQ.You frighten out of me. I'm not in near of the extreme you describe. The strong conflict moon/nessus in my chart was the first one I saw when I learned astrology when I was 12 years old.

Everyone have nessus somewhere in a chart. For me peri describe the effect on it on a useful way. She describe it more correct on how it works in our life. The most interesting are to know how it works on a normal basis and not on a extreme or sick way.

The below are my moon/nessus in aspect.

Moon conj nessus 0-1
moon 19,18 parallel pluto 19,19
moon/nessus square pluto6-7
moon/nessus square merk 0-1
moon/nessus square uranus 1-2
moon/nessus square saturnus 2-3
moon/nessus trine destinn 0-1
moon/nessus trine psyche 1-2
moon/nessu sext SUN 4
moon 19,18 paralell sun 17,31
moon/nessus sextil AC 4
moon 19,18 parallel AC 17,32
moon 19,18 parallel venus 18,34
moon 19,18 parallel jupiter 17,32

I also have dejanira 11 conj karma 13 in conj nept 15 in scorpio.
My dejanira 11/karma 13 square my sun 10/AC 10 in leo.

When I looking into my chart I should be an dangerous individual but not at all. I will never be dangerous or try to hurt anyone.

Lucky the most of us have the psychological
barrier stop.

I have both, iQ. Nessus squares my Venus by 2°, and exact square to my Lust. Not a prostitute or porn star yet, and I don't think I'll ever love doing something like that, but we'll see when times get desperate lol.

Kidding, but yeah, assault/abuse has been a common theme in my childhood unfortunately. Popcorn, what house does your Nessus fall in?

iQ, what about someone's Dejanira conj a planet or point in your chart? Would it have the same effect as Nessus?

all heavenly bodies have both positive and negative traits whether they are stars, planets, asteroids, centaurs, transneptunians, black holes, quasars, pulsars, xrays, and other things

a positive side of Nessus is giving a person a helping hand, a ferryman

@Popcorn,
I dont think Nessus conj Moon is an issue for ladies Peri's description will certainly work for you.

@Seeleah,
Absolutely nothing to worry, Nessus square Ascendant has played out in his upbringing in a rough neighbourhood. He may have gone through Self-Punishment issues and blamed himself while growing up. In fact, your love will heal him of even this challenge.

In Synastry, these are the main Nessus red flags, 1.5 degree orbs max:
Guys Nessus conj Girl's Ascendant
Nessus square Venus/Dejanira/Moon
Nessus conj/square Saturn or Sun

Wider orbs are safely workable.

@Racole, you poor dear! That synastry was unbearably harsh, I guess the Scorpio Moon is moor dangerous than Scorpio Sun when guys have afflcited Nessus. That square to AMOR would have attempted to extinguish all your hopes in love. But to attract a much better mate, you have to defeat that monster by
a) Raising your Self Esteem/Personal Power
b) forgiving him on the Higher Self level. Very very dificult but it is the best way for complete freedom from any kind of abuse in the future.
Pholus is not that harmful, IXION could be a second fiddle to Nessus but I must do further research there. I think Ixion is more valid in an individual character assessment.

@Soulful: No, Dejanira is not that impactful for other planets. However Dejanira meeting Nessus in synastry will allow the Nessus person to abuse the Dejanira person, especially if the girl's Dejanira is conjunct or square the guy's Nessus.
Your Nessus sq Venus has manifested terribly but there may have been a Moon or Pluto quincunx too?
But my dear, now you KNOW and with knowledge comes personal power. No one will be able to abuse you anymore, as you will be doing the synastry

How would hard aspects between Nessus-Chiron, Nessus-Pluto, Nessus-Lust, Nessus-Karma and Nessus- Valentine work out in synastry or natal chart without the other main red flags aspects?(more conerned with synastry overall) Dejanira with hard aspects to those as well. Or would you say these are red flags as well IQ? I am trying to build a mental checklist here so I can do further research in synastry or know what warnings to look for in the future. This is a very helpful thread.

Also, does the same still apply when looking at a composite. Such as if I had none of the warning signs in synastry but had Nessus conjunct Saturn or square Dejanira in a composite with someone, would that be considered a "red flag"?

What would it signify if a man had his moon conjunct nessus and opposite dejanira? Does it mean he may be the victim of emotional abuse from women in his life? Or would he be the abuser?

I have Ixion conj Venus... hmmm.

I am getting closer to forgiving him, but I'll never allow him back in my life. It took this situation to get me to a point that I had to take a stand for myself or it would of mentally/emotionally killed me. Since then... it's becoming easier to actually take a stand when I see red flags popping up in other situations/people.

But I'm still curious what Ixion and Dejanira actually are.
I have a friend that his Dejamira is conj my Mars and DSC exact....

Thanks!

certainly that we can study these types of asteroids in sinastry not only romantic but to stydy how people related to each other, family wise too,or any other type of relationship?

The latest findins of me/john/c. triad did opened my eye to this.

certainly that the 1st trigger was my own intuition about it but i think that everytime time we´re aware,we can work with it the best way to protect ourselves from those darker archetypes of people´s Soul´s.

I think im gonna start a thread of this.
