Ami, my Jupiter conjuncts your Mercury same degree. This was my first Album purchase back in the day and I think it's kind of Gemini like, kind of mercurial, and describes well you know whatever heartache ... You know what might help, Mblake. Put a synastry of you and your mother.
I found the root of my Mars/Pluto problems from doing that.
I SAW my childhood in black and white from s few placement : if it feels comfortable ,only, of course. Ami ------------------

You have Venus trine ASC. You may have those hard energies but at least you are cute Ami
PS Trines are when the energy harmonizes. In Neptune trines ,you can take that energy and go in to the creative dimension. Hence, you can be a good artist/musician ------------------

So you, Mermaid,aspire to Taurus energy i.e. grounded in the world.
The 9th house is philosophy/religion.
You need to find the 9th house things.A merging of these would be where you need to go.
Does that fit? Ami PS It would mean you were comfortable with SN--Scorpio energy and the 3rd house which is communication.

Yeah Ami, that's the challenge, the merging. You have prompted me to get a better understanding now of the 3rd house placement. I feel I'm getting closer to discovering that answer.

I should add that self knowledge rules in this area, You may only need a merging if there is a need for it.Some energies may not need it and can be ok already. You are the one that will know. Dis-harmonic energies are why i needed it, Ideas, feelings etc are things i rooted and am still rooting out and understanding there place. You know, when you say individuality,Mblake, it makes me think THAT is the answer. I have all those parts, the sweet Neptune, the drill sargeant Pluto, the beauty/grace loving Venus, the Ego Sun. Health and living life at it's BEST is having access to all of them .
I think you and I are trying to do that here, with Mermaid and anyone else who wants to join

I am doing Yoga to Wonderwall. It is a great Yoga song for some reason lol. Anyway, I was thinking what may be SO hard about your chart and why you are struggling.
Scorpio is water. Virgo is earth. Water does not go well with earth.
They are not compatible elements, I am quite sure.
Therefore, you have to try to put together two things which are not natural allies,friends, so to speak.
I have Water(Scorpio) and Air(Gemini). They go together more easily.
Then, I have a little fire, no earth.
It is easier to reconcile,I think. Ami ------------------

You know what I am thinking? When I am healthy, I can operate in all the different energies when needed.
I can open my fragile Cancer moon( heart) to someone. If they step on it, I can get all "You are not gonna step on THIS Sista" with my Gemini Venus 
I can be Scorpio like if someone messes with me.
I can be Neptune when I want to be the princess in the fairy tale with the handsome prince. I think this is health--this adaptability
