Indigo children
From Wikinfo

Definition Children that possess ESP or related paranormal abilities that indicate a new level of evolutionary development
Signature An indigo colored aura
Status New Age belief
See also Aura (paranormal)
For other uses, see Indigo race.

For criticism see Criticism of Indigo_children

Indigo children are children who represent a higher state of human evolution. The term itself is a reference to the belief that such children have an indigo-colored aura.[1] Beliefs concerning the exact nature of Indigo children vary, with some believing that they have paranormal abilities such as the ability to read minds, and others that they are distinguished from non-Indigo children merely by more conventional traits such as increased empathy and creativity.

Nevertheless, in this context, also the term "Starchild" or "Starchildren" is being used, being prior, the word being "divinly empowered" and making possible a positive energy connection for the children.[2]

[edit] Origins

The term Indigo children originates from the 1982 book "Understanding Your Life Through Color," by Nancy Ann Tappe, a self-styled synesthete and psychic, who claimed to possess the ability to perceive human auras. She wrote that during the mid 1960's she began noticing that many children were being born with indigo auras. Today she estimates that 60% of people age 14 to 25 and 97% of children under ten are "Indigo."[1][3]

The idea of Indigo children was later popularized by the 1998 book The Indigo Children: The New Kids Have Arrived, written by the husband-and-wife team of Lee Carroll and Jan Tober.[4] According to Carroll he learned about the concept of Indigo children while channeling a being known as Kryon, Master angelic energy. Tober has said that she and Carroll do not talk much about Kryon in interviews because they see this as being a potential barrier to reaching more mainstream audiences that exist outside of the New Age movement.[5]
[edit] Characteristics and beliefs

According to New Age beliefs, Indigo children are hypersensitives, who are highly empathic and intuitive by nature, and can easily detect or are in tune with the thoughts and feelings of others. They are also very introspective, and thus have a clear sense of self-definition, and often possess a strong feeling that they need to make a significant difference in the world.

They are strong-willed, independent thinkers who prefer to be self-guided rather than directed by others. They tend to think outside of the box, and are often referred to as "system busters". They are naturally drawn to matters concerning mysteries, spirituality, the paranormal and the occult, while opposing convention and unquestioned authority. Indigo children allegedly possess wisdom and a level of awareness that is "beyond their years." They are often considered to be spiritually gifted, due in part to the extraordinary talents and/or abilities that they allegedly possess, such as "third eye perception".

Indigo children are often diagnosed with certain psychological disorders such as Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Dyslexia, and also Autism. They often feel misunderstood, and have a tendency to become unsociable when they are not around like-minded people.

They are also believed to be prone to depression and sleep disorders such as insomnia, persistent nightmares, and even night terrors.[cn] Indigo children also possess defining characteristics in learning; they tend to be more visual, kinesthetic learners and so they remember best what they can picture in their minds and create with their hands.[cn] Movement is required to keep them better focused. [6][7][8][9][10][11]

Some alternative education groups have set up programs based around the concept.[4][12]
[edit] The concept

Those who support the concept claim the proportion of 'indigos' in recent times to be very large and increasing, rising from 85% in 1992 to 95% at some point after 1994 [1]. In previous decades the proportion is claimed to have been much lower. There are, however, no verfiable statistics to back these claims up, let alone a methodology for identifying or classifying an "indigo child."

Although Carroll states that while most of the traits of indigos are physically observable (there is no evidence of this), the indigo child concept is also metaphysical in nature. Carroll describes himself as a channeller for Kryon, a supposed angelic being that he claims exists. One of the book's six chapters focuses on the supposed spiritual aspects of claimed indigos, and includes information that is best classified as new age metaphysical or pseudoscientific. Some individuals believe the "arrival" of these supposed indigo children is wholly a spiritual phenomenon, and that indigo children are supposedly the beginning of a new hybrid, possibly alien.

Spiritual author Doreen Virtue has also written books on this topic.
[edit] 'April' kids

Greek journalist Kostas Hardavelas claims to have done research which revealed that in the past, the University of Athens showed some unusual interest in children specifically born during April of 1983, sought them in schools and performed interviews and surveys without further information or notification to the public. The research of Mr Hardavelas, who in his documentary asked persons who were interviewed by the University, claims that these children had high IQ, mental abilities, peculiar dreams and spiritual experiences.

The explanation of why kids particularly born then supposedly present these abilities, the reason of those interviews, as well as who authorised the University to perform them, is still a matter of inquiry by Mr. Hardavelas. Queries he sent were left unanswered. In his documentary, he suggests that some cosmic event (planetary alignment or excessive solar activity) occurred. However, almost all psychologists reject this speculation, and it should be noted that there is no solid evidence that these ablilites are even manifest at all.

This speculation about the children born during April 1983 is based on information from a book and articles written by science-fiction and conspiracy theory Greek author Ioannis Fourakis who also claims that the 'April children' have a mark on their skin, and that they will play some important role in the future of history.

It is not clear whether the Greek 'April children' belong to the Indigo children. See also:April fool.
[edit] The indigo child supposition

According to Carroll and Tober, "the Indigo Child is a boy or girl who displays a new and unusual set of psychological attributes, revealing a pattern of behavior generally undocumented before." They assert these children are often misdiagnosed with Attention-Deficit Disorder or Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and they advise parents to avoid medicating these children for that condition despite warnings from legitimate doctors. This pattern, they claim, has unique factors that call on parents and teachers to change their treatment and upbringing of these children in order to assist them in achieving balance and harmony in their lives, and to help them avoid frustration.

The title "indigo children" is given to people who were born in the 1980s and 1990s, with some being born in the 1970s. Some sources use the term "crystal children" to describe indigos at a young age (younger than age 7); and some state that the children being born today (after the year 2000) are "crystal children" who are more sensitive and spiritually connected than the indigos, who they claim are more warrior-like in nature.

Carroll and Tober have not detailed why their classification is particularly more useful or accurate than approaches based on conventional child psychology and sociology; rather, they claim the list was "channeled" by Carroll from a mystical entity they call Kryon.

They identify ten attributes that they claim describe the indigo child:

* They come into the world with a feeling of royalty (and often act like it).
* They have a feeling of "deserving to be here," and are surprised when others don't share that.
* Self-worth is not a big issue; they often tell the parents "who they are."
* They have difficulty with absolute authority (authority without explanation or choice).
* They simply will not do certain things; for example, waiting in line is difficult for them.
* They get frustrated with systems that are ritually oriented and don't require creative thought.
* They often see better ways of doing things, both at home and in school, which makes them seem like "system busters" (nonconforming to any system).
* They seem antisocial unless they are with their own kind. If there are no others of like consciousness around them, they often turn inward, feeling like no other human understands them. School is often extremely difficult for them socially.
* They will not respond to "guilt" discipline ("Wait till your father gets home and finds out what you did").
* They are not shy in letting it be known what they need.

It should be noted that these traits are not unique, and are observable in most children.

This supposed new type of child is believed by them to have come forward for a reason; most often suggested is that they will improve the world in some way. The changes generally discussed involve bringing peace, toppling corrupt institutions, and a shift from allopathic medicine to a greater understanding of more natural alternatives. According to many believers, indigo children are more in touch with a so-called "universal truth," and do not tolerate or understand behaviors or systems that are not in harmony with it.

Indigo children are sometimes said to possess an extreme longevity, with a lifespan of several hundred years. There is no evidence to back this claim.
[edit] Commercialization

According to Lorie Anderson of Skepticreport.com, belief in Indigo children has significant commercial value due to sales of book, video, and one-on-one counseling sessions for children, as well as in donations and speaking engagements.[13]
[edit] In popular culture

* The film Indigo (2003) is about the relationship between a man and his indigo grandchild.[14]

* Maynard James Keenan's musical side project, Puscifer, released a song on the album V is for Vagina entitled "Indigo Children".

Here is an article about differentiating between ADHD and giftedness, and it makes me wonder if the giftedness is what is DRD4 7R gene which is connected to 50 percent of ADHDers , and could also fit with Indigos.
Many people that say that ADHD is an attention inconsistency, and it's not that they attention deficits. It is noted that ADHDers have their strengths.

Characteristics of Gifted Students Who Are Bored

* Poor attention and daydreaming when bored
* Low tolerance for persistence on tasks that seem irrelevant
* Begin many projects, see few to completion
* Development of judgment lags behind intellectual growth
* Intensity may lead to power struggles with authorities
* High activity level; may need less sleep
* Difficulty restraining desire to talk; may be disruptive
* Question rules, customs, and traditions
* Lose work, forget homework, are disorganized
* May appear careless
* Highly sensitive to criticism
* Do not exhibit problem behaviors in all situations
* More consistent levels of performance at a fairly consistent pace
(Cline, 1999; Webb & Latimer, 1993)

Characteristics of Students with ADHD

* Poorly sustained attention
* Diminished persistence on tasks not having immediate consequences
* Often shift from one uncompleted activity to another
* Impulsivity, poor delay of gratification
* Impaired adherence to commands to regulate or inhibit behavior in social contexts
* More active, restless than other children
* Often talk excessively
* Often interrupt or intrude on others (e.g., butt into games)
* Difficulty adhering to rules and regulations
* Often lose things necessary for tasks or activities at home or school
* May appear inattentive to details
* Highly sensitive to criticism
* Problem behaviors exist in all settings, but in some are more severe
* Variability in task performance and time used to accomplish tasks.
(Barkley, 1990; Cline, 1999; Webb & Latimer, 1993)

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is viewed as a disorder by the mainstream. Is it really a disorder? Does it really need to be medicated? Do people with ADHD really have problems with being hyperactive and/or inattentive?

DRD4 7R gene has been strongly linked to both ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and a behavior trait called "novelty seeking" which often underlies addiction. Scientists suggest that DRD4 7R gene occurred recently in human evolution between 10,000 and 40,000 years ago which was the period that anthropologists concur that humans were developing the first signs of complex societies involving agriculture, rudimentary governments, and the creation of cities for the first time. Humans were also rapidly eDRDxpanding and exploring the planet. The DRD4 7R Gene is shown to be an unusual, spontaneous mutation which became an advantage for humans, and so it became increasingly prevalent. It could explain why ADHD is very common today.

Even though DRD4 7R gene is strongly connected to ADHD with approximately half of ADHDers having DRD4 7R gene, it doesn't mean that all nor most DRD4 7R gene people have ADHD. Many DRD4 7R gene people aren't diagnosed as having ADHD, and it could be for a variety of reasons like not dealing with the public school system and were in schools like Montessori,Waldorf, and Sudsbury. They could have been homeschooled. They could have learned a lot of discipline, and some may have been spanked by their parents a lot. Some might have been viewed as troublemakers and delinquents. Some might even be misdiagnosed as having Bipolar Disorder. Some might even have been thought of as "he's just one of those Tom Sawyer-like boys,Huckleberry Finn-like boys." Some might have found outlets to channel their DRD4 7R traits. Some of those could be sports like football, track n' field, swimming, hockey, and basketball. They could also have been involved in creative and/or artistic outlets. There are numerous reasons that DRD4 7R gene types aren't diagnosed as having ADHD. Even neurodivergent conditions that tend to be comorbid with ADHD could mask the DRD4 7R gene traits like Dyslexia and Dyspraxia. The more severe the Dyslexia,Dyspraxia (especially if having both), the more likely they will be viewed as being disordered and placed in special education classes which tend to have negative stigma attached to them, being known by many as "retard classes".

Thom Hartmann's view of ADHD as an adaptive trait that was helpful for hunter-gathering types makes the most sense to me,and it's seems verified by the findings of the DRD4 7R gene. He even titled one of his books,THE EDISON GENE and the book goes over the DRD4 7R gene in relation to ADHD in regards to the hunter-gatherer view, the strengths, but also how it's a mismatch for mainstream education that focus on auditory sequential teaching methods. He is the same type. He got more involved with dealing with ADHD after one of his sons was diagnosed as having ADHD,and he was recommended to take medication for it. Both Thom Hartmann and his son are the Edison Gene types.

page 4 - 5 THE EDISON GENE ADHD And The Gift Of The Hunter Child by Thom Hartmann

What exactly defines those bearing this genetic makeup? Edison-gene children and adults are by nature

Enthusiastic
Creative
Disorganized
Non-linear in their thinking (they leap to new conclusions or observations)
Innovative
Easily distracted (or,to put it differently, easily attracted to new stimuli)
Capable of extraordinary hyperfous
Understanding of what it means to be an "outsider"
Determined
Eccentric
Easily Bored
Impulsive
Entrepreneurial
Energetic

All of these qualities lead them to be natural:

Explorers
Inventors
Discoverers
Leaders

I also believe that the Edison-gene children and adults can be good at things that involve anything that involves thinking outside the box, creativity, art, athletics, sports, being an entrepreneur, intuitive healing arts, metaphysical sciences like Astrology, anything that is nontraditional, computers, electronics, massage, acting, show business, and show business.

Thom Hartmann points out that those carrying the gene often find themselves in environments where they're coerced, threatened,or shoehorned into a classroom or job that doesn't fit. He said when Edison-gene children can be have great emotional and spiritual wounding when they are aren't recognized for their gifts but instead are told that they're disordered, broken,or failures. He points that the wounding can bring all sorts of problems for children, for the adults they grow into, and for our society.

He and many scientists, educations, physicaisns, and therapists believe that when these unique chilcren don't succeed in public schools,it's often because of a disconnect between them---their brains are wired to make them brilliant inventors and entrepreneurs--and our schools, which are set up for children whose brains are wired to make them good workers in the structured environments of a factory of officle cubicle.

I think that there are a lot of things factor in the life of an ADHDer,Edison Gene person like nurturing, upbringing, and the environment that they are in. That includes the domestic environment and the school environment. Support, love, and care is very important for neurodivergent children so they can grow up to be secure and believe in themselves. If they are abused in any kind of way and treated like they are stupid,incompetent,damaged,and/or defective(especially get placed in special education programs with the mentally retarded or being medicated), they can grow to be insecure and have low self esteem because their ultrasensitivity can make them highly vulnerable, susceptible to being strongly impacted by negativity.

ADHD is not some widespread epidemic either. They say that 5 percent of the population have ADHD. It runs in families. It's not even new. The traits of ADHD were recognized in 1798 by a Scottish-born physician and author, Sir Alexander Crichton. ADHD was recognized to be in adults by 1978. Long time ago,ADHD was known as other things like minimal brain dysfunction and hyperkinetic disorder.

In my opinion, ADHD isn't a disorder that needs to be medicated nor fixed in some way which is a view that many health practitioners(both conventional and alternative)share. There are strengths that come with it and not just weaknesses. It's not like Diabetes that some psychiatrists compare ADHD to. ADHD is no Ritalin deficiency like Diabetes is an insulin deficiency. The ADHDers don't need Ritalin. They need themselves and not be fitted in a box that they don't fit. Mainstream education isn't for these people. It certainly didn't fit Thomas Edison. His mother homeschooled him. There really needs to be multisensory teaching methods like that are used in Waldorf,Montessori schools. They need their imagination, sensitivity, and other strengths to be nurtured and not suppressed. ADHDers aren't made to be routine 9-5 workers, and so they need to stop being trained to be like them.

Psychiatrists believe that ADHDers need to be on medication like Ritalin or Adderall to treat abnormal levels of dopamine in their brain. They view abnormal levels of dopamine in the brain as a a chemical imbalance. Maybe there is such thing as chemical imbalances in the brain, but I believe that chemistry in the brain vary in people without their having a mental disorder. It's possible that personalities that vary in us humans are in synchronicity with brain chemistry that vary in us humans.I did read about matchmaking based on brain chemistry. They seem to think that brain chemistry in people vary with personality types without viewing it as a disorder. Helen Fisher began an exhaustive review of the scientific literature and eventually came to believe that there were four broad biological personality types associated with four specific neurotransmitters and hormones: dopamine, serotonin, testosterone and estrogen. Fisher suspects we are all some combination of these four types, which she has named the explorer (risk-taking, associated with dopamine), the builder (calm, traditional, associated with serotonin), the director (analytical, tough-minded and decisive, associated with testosterone) and the negotiator (emotionally expressive and empathetic, associated with estrogen). Dopamine is said to be the chemical that is found to be abnormal concentration in ADHDers. DRD4 7R gene is a dopamine gene that is connected to novelty-seeking. Therefore, people with the DRD4 7R Gene and/or ADHD fit the Explorer type.

I view ADHD as just a label, and I don't mind it. I mind using the label, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. I don't believe that ADHD is a disorder. That's why I prefer the term, Attention Divergent Hyperactivity Difference. That's ADHD from the neurodivergent perspective.

Dual Exceptionality or twice exceptional is the term used to describe a child who is not only exceptionally able but has additional learning difficulties or a disability which can make it difficult to identify their high lintellectual ability. Children with often crippling learning difficulties or physical or emotional disabilities or those who are on the autistic spectrum can be gifted and in some cases profoundly so. As a consequence, it is this group within the gifted community who are most at risk of slipping through the net and not getting the support they so desperately need in order to fully realise their potential. The problems that they and their families encounter whilst trying to negotiate the special needs quagmire in order to obtain any support is unbelievable. Worldwide the number of children presenting with dual exceptionality is rising. The potential of these children is often overlooked by a society that can only see the disability and none of the possibilities.

One of the best examples of possiblities finally recognised is Dr. Temple Grandin, Phd, as she is probably one of the most accomplished adults with high functioning autism today. Her 1986 book "Emergence, Labeled Autistic" was groundbreaking in that it finally gave a voice to those who are often considered the ultimate outsiders. Today she is an Associate Professor at Colorado State University and is a world renowned designer of humane livestock facilities.

If your child has a diagnosis of dual exceptionality remember that it's possible to apply for a Domicilary Care Allowance "a monthly means tested payment made in Ireland to the carer of a child with a severe disability who lives at home." The means test applies only to the means of the child and not the means of the carer or carers. "There are no rigid medical guidelines regarding the type of disability a qualifying child must have. (In other words, no particular conditions/disabilities are specified). Instead, it is a matter for the Senior Area Medical Officer in the Health Service Executive (HSE) to determine whether a child with a particular condition qualifies for the Allowance." The current monthly allowance is €299.60. A Carer may also apply for a Carer's Allowance or Carer's Benefit and there is also a Respite Care Grant available. Like everything there are terms and conditions attached to each of these allowances and grants; however don't be put off by the bureaucracy. Remember that you also have the right of appeal if your application is denied. Check out Enable Ireland's site for information on accessing additional services and for information on allowances for special needs children download Spectrum's Guide to Special Allowances.

Dual exceptionality is a very specialised area and is very challenging for both children and their parents. All we can say is don't drown in the red tape, try to stay focused and keep asking the difficult questions until you get some anwsers. Both you and your child deserve it. In the meantime 2e, Twice Exceptional Newsletter is a fantastic resource for "parents, educators, advocates, and other professionals who help 2e kids reach their potential."

If you think that your child may exhibit some characteristics of dual exceptionality the information below sourced from the Special Education Support Services may help as a starting point. However it is important to remember than misdiagnosis can occur as giftedness shares a number of characteristics with other syndromes. For more information see Misdiagnosis and Dual Diagnoses of Gifted Children and Adults: ADHD, Bipolar, Ocd, Asperger's, Depression, and Other Disorders by James T. Webb.

In the meantime, this is a very interesting excerpt from a recorded webinar given by Drs. Brock and Fernette Eide on Attention, Sensory Processing, and Social Challenges in Gifted Children where they discuss overlaps in the checklists of ADD/ ADHD, Sensory Processing, and Giftedness.

Personal Stories

“Trying to get a definitive diagnosis was probably the most difficult thing, after that things seemed to fit into place. Although we were worried about the possibility of misdiagnosis, as the more we read about giftedness the more it was hard to know what behaviours were to do his high ability and what was due to other factors. Before the diagnosis I just remember the worry and the fear, the “what if” scenarios that kept running through my head. At least we now know what's what and he has support structures in place at school which is definitely helping."

Take Ronald D. Davis' theory for instance. He has Autism and Dyslexia. He was labeled a Kanner's baby. He is an engineer, artist, and business man that heads an international organization to help people with neurodivergence through his methods.

This is what Ronald D. Davis said about basic abilities connected to neurodivergence:

1. They can utilize the brain's ability to alter and create perceptions (the primary ability)
2. They are highly aware of the environment.
3. They are more curious than average.
4. They think mainly in pictures instead of words.
5. They are highly intuitive and insightful.
6. They think and perceive multi-dimensionally (using all the senses)
7. They can experience thought as reality.
8. They have vivid imaginations.

That seems like stuff that pertains to Indigo,Crystal types, lightworkers,Earth Angels,Starseeds

Glac - I have studied some on Indigos, and my kids and grandkids all fit right in...my bf and I would be considered older indigos according to the descriptions...my boys just had a more difficult time in school, and my youngest always felt as if he were 'dumb'...which he is not. They don't learn like others do, and neither do I...and the attention span is definitely lacking at times, it was a big complaint from teachers in regards to all 3 of my children...it's nice to see others who understand...
My bf can see Auras, and my boys are mostly blue...but Auras can change according to what one may be focusing on at the time, or thinking about, or if one is feeling well or ill...
Thanks for all of the great info!

Dabrowski's Over-excitabilities
A Layman's Explanation
by Stephanie S. Tolan

Written for Hoagies' Gifted Education Page, February, 1999

Dabrowski talked about OE's - over-excitabilities ("superstimulatabilities"), and how the gifted were extremely sensitive in a variety of areas. It's a stimulus-response difference from the norms. It means that in these 5 areas a person reacts more strongly than normal for a longer period than normal to a stimulus that may be very small. It involves not just psychological factors but central nervous system sensitivity.

The five areas are:
Psychomotor

This is often thought to mean that the person needs lots of movement and athletic activity, but can also refer to the issue of having trouble smoothing out the mind's activities for sleeping. Lots of physical energy and movement, fast talking, lots of gestures, sometimes nervous tics.
Sensual

Here's the "cut the label out of the shirt" demand, the child who limps as if with a broken leg when a sock seam is twisted. Also a love for sensory things -- textures, smells, tastes etc. or a powerful reaction to negative sensory input (bad smells, loud sounds, etc.) The kids tend to be sensitive to bright lights (squinting in all the family photographs, etc.), harsh sounds. A baby who cries when the wind blows in his face, for instance; a toddler who cries at the feel of grass on bare legs and feet. Another important aspect of this is aesthetic awareness -- the child who is awed to breathlessness at the sight of a beautiful sunset or cries hearing Mozart, etc.
Imaginational

These are the dreamers, poets, "space cadets" who are strong visual thinkers, use lots of metaphorical speech. They day dream, remember their dreams at night and often react strongly to them, believe in magic (take a long time to "grow out of" Santa, the tooth fairy, elves and fairies, etc.).
Intellectual

Here's the usual definition of "giftedness." Kids with a strong "logical imperative," who love brain teasers and puzzles, enjoy following a line of complex reasoning, figuring things out. A love of things academic, new information, cognitive games, etc.
Emotional

This includes being "happier when happy, sadder when sad, angrier when angry," etc. Intensity of emotion. But also a very broad range of emotions. Also a need for deep connections with other people or animals. Unable to find close and deep friends (Damon and Pythias variety) they invent imaginary friends, make do with pets or stuffed animals, etc. Empathy and compassion. A child who needs a committed relationship will think herself "betrayed" by a child who plays with one child today and another tomorrow and refers to both as "friends." This is also the OE that makes the kids susceptible to depression.

Dabrowski believed emotional OE to be central -- the energy center from which the whole constellation of OE's is generated.

Highly gifted people tend to have all 5 of these, but different people lead with different OE's. The engineer types lead with Intellectual, the poets with Emotional and Imaginational, etc. But variations in the levels of the individual OE's explain a great deal about the temperamental differences we see!

These five describe the unusual intensity of the gifted as well as the many ways in which they look and behave "oddly" when compared to norms.

It's funny, I've been running into a lot of people who have the ability to see auras. I think it's a lot more common than people think it is, and most never talk about their skill. I've had to work on my ability to see auras and just started seeing them nearly a year ago. I'm still not great at it.

If people are curious, I found this site to have the best description, and i've seen his eye integration exercises used by people who teach telekinesis to others. http://www.thiaoouba.com/aura_eye_exercise.htm

Here is my favorite site for the explanation of developing various kinesises along with telepathy. In one of them he explains invisibility and he has this photo where he's half gone. Could obviously be photo-shopped, but very cool I was successful with pyrokinesis on a small scale last time I was with a friend who had a fire pit. http://www.wingmakers.co.nz/Pyrokinesis.html

My brother just bought this book and it seems really good. A great explanation of how the abilities are created. Having read parts of this, I know I'm very gifted at lumokinesis, which doesn't amount to much. It happens frequently that all the light around me will disappear just for a second. I've randomly turned on lights or nearly broken lightbulbs too, but the lumokinesis happens most frequently. http://www.amazon.com/Quantum-Psychics-Scientif ically-Understand-Control/dp/0557034027/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1295905125&sr=8-2

lol Glac! So that explains my oldest son, when he was little...his socks were 'cold'..lol I had to put them in the dryer so he could wear them or he would cry!
And his interest in Opera as a very young chithld...all 3 of them with their love of puzzles, and how good they were at them at even 2 years old...I always surrounded them with puzzles, leggos, tinker toys, erector sets and such...
My youngest(the chart), and his invisible friend of 2 or 3 years...
My oldest and a stuffed rabbit he loved and carried around for years...would cry for him...he got this rabbit, which he named 'Crabby' at 1 or 2...he is going on 24 now, and still has him! lol
This is so cool...

This is from

Elaine Aron's book,
THE HIGHLY SENSITIVE CHILD.

What is a Highly Sensitive Child?

The Highly Sensitive Child coverA highly sensitive child is one of the fifteen to twenty percent of children born with a nervous system that is highly aware and quick to react to everything. This makes them quick to grasp subtle changes, prefer to reflect deeply before acting, and generally behave conscientiously. They are also easily overwhelmed by high levels of stimulation, sudden changes, and the emotional distress of others. Because children are a blend of a number of temperament traits, some HSCs are fairly difficult--active, emotionally intense, demanding, and persistent--while others are calm, turned inward, and almost too easy to raise except when they are expected to join a group of children they do not know. But outspoken and fussy or reserved and obedient, all HSCs are sensitive to their emotional and physical environment.

Is my child highly sensitive?
One way to know is to complete the online questionnaire 'Is Your Child Highly Sensitive?', which also provides a good sense of what is meant by a "highly sensitive child." The items come from a longer list given to over a hundred parents and then statistically selected to best identify HSCs. It is one way to know if a child is highly sensitive, but not always accurate for a given child. Another way to know is to read more about the trait and decide for yourself.

So, what now?
First, appreciate that this is a wonderful trait. It is no illness or syndrome. Nor is it something new I made up or "just discovered." It is an inborn temperament or style that is found in about twenty percent of children and of nearly all animals. Anything so persistent is not abnormal. It represents a strategy of taking everything into account before acting (the other, more common innate strategy is to act quickly and be first, then think later). The trait serves an important purpose for the individual sensitive person and for the larger society--for example, sensitive persons sense danger and see the consequences of an action before others do.

Unfortunately, the trait has been somewhat misunderstood in our culture, so that most psychologists and parents tend to see only one aspect of some sensitive children and call this trait shyness, inhibitedness, fearfulness, fussiness, or "hyper" sensitivity. If one could see inside the mind of a sensitive child, however, one would learn the whole story of what is going on--creativity, intuition, surprising wisdom, empathy for others...

But, for all of that to blossom, they absolutely must be raised with understanding. Otherwise, as adults they are prone to depression, anxiety, and shyness.

So, the second "what now" might be to read The Highly Sensitive Child. I wrote this book because so many adults were telling me that their childhoods were excruciatingly difficult, even when their parents had the best intentions, because no one knew how to raise them. Parents and teachers told them there were "too sensitive" or "too shy" or "too intense." They tried to change and could not, and so felt increasingly isolated or ashamed. My hope is to spare some children such unnecessary suffering and the world the waste of so much talent, because HSCs have a tremendous amount to offer the world. But they do need special handling. They need to be appreciated, to have their special needs and sometimes intense reactions and behaviors understood, and, when correction is needed, they need to be handled with special care so that they do not become anxious or ashamed of their failure.

This book is rooted in years of my experience as a psychotherapist and consultant to HSPs and parents of HSCs, plus interviews with parents, teachers, and HSCs themselves for the book. Then there are my experiences from my fumbling efforts to raise an HSC before I knew what that was. And there's what I know from having been an HSC myself.

Again, few parents and teachers understand this trait-–and as a result, HSCs are often mislabeled as "problem children" (and in some cases, misdiagnosed with disorders such as Attention Deficit Disorder). But raised with proper understanding and care, HSCs are no more prone to problems than nonsensitive children and can grow up to be happy, healthy, unusually well-adjusted and creative adults.

Chapters in The Highly Sensitive Child:

1. Sensitivity--
A Better Light on "Shy" and "Fussy" Children
Explains the trait thoroughly, including research evidence.
2. Fasten Your Seat Belts--
The Challenges of Raising an Exceptional Child
Describes the most likely problems and gets you started solving them.
3. When You the Parent Are Not Highly Sensitive--
Blessings in Disguise
Even though this is an innate trait, it often happens that a parent is not highly sensitive but the child is. This chapter shows you how to make that an advantage for both of you.
4. When You and Your Child Are Both Highly Sensitive--
And What About the Rest of Your Family's Temperament?
Discusses the advantages and disadvantages of having the same temperament as your child and also considers the temperament of other family members.
5. Four Keys to Raising a Joyous HSC--
Self-Esteem, Shame-Reduction, Wise Discipline, and Knowing How to Discuss Sensitivity
Focusing on the most important issues, whatever the age of a child.

The rest of the book is on each stage of raising your sensitive child, with many practical tips as well as research findings on what really works with these particular children.

6. Off to the Right Start--
Soothing and Attuning to Highly Sensitive Infants
7. Toddlers and Preschoolers at Home--
Adapting to Change and Dealing with Overstimulation
8. Toddlers and Preschoolers Out in the World--
Helping Them Feel Successful in New Situations
9. School-Age HSCs--
Resolving Problems at Home
10. School-Age HSCs--
Helping Your Child Enjoy the Classroom and Social Life
11. Sensitive Adolescents and Young Adults--
The Delicate Task of Launching a Spirited, Seaworthy Vessel

* Tips for Teachers (you can give them to your child's teacher).

lol mochai...my oldest son has been known to blowout lightbulbs, and shut down the card machines and grocery stores and such...a good friend of ours cannot have a cell phone, nor hold one for long...she kills the batteries...she also burns out watches...I have about 8 watches with dead batteries...they last for a couple of weeks, then dead...I kept blaming the watches, til I found out what was happening this past year...I don't wear them anymore...for some reason I do fine with cell phones, although lately the battery hasn't been holding a charge as long...
I am also wondering if the high-pitched tones in our heads also is a thing of 'indigos' or 'starseeds'...I have read some on it, but haven't felt as if I have gotten a definite answer from any particular site...my boys and their girls have had them since childhood...my bf a few years now...mine started this past summer...it started out as intermittent, but never goes away now...I wonder if there is something in our charts that points to this 'abnormality'...no, it's not tinitus! lol

I think in the last year and a half I've gotten the tinnitus to. Some of it is ringing, and some I think is ringing tuned into a certain frequency of an event or object or action.. or maybe even someone. It's kind of bizarre.

Most of what I hear sounds like a hybrid of some celestial cricket or cicada if that makes sense. It's only in my left ear, but when I recently was working on learning how to lucid dream better, I heard a telephone ring in my right ear lol. Sometimes I'll get frequencies of some sort of song in my right ear. I hear for people with kundalini it can sound like a waterfall or something relaxing.

Classically speaking adherents to tantric paths of kundalini would hear a flute for krishna or a drum for siva depending on which path they were following.. left hand for siva or right hand for krishna.

I really need to go walk 5 miles or something. I'm very ungrounded right now.

sorry sorry my connection is quite lame today,i submitted before writing anything but i wanted to say that i think i am an indigo...i found out about indigos in the year 2008 but wasnt sure what that meant *being an indigo*...i received several visions with the color blue and wondered what that could mean....then i read online about indigos...i am not sure i am but i am sure that the color deepblue plays some significant role in my life.what i can say about my person is that as a child i often picked up sygnals others couldnt perceive.i started to see auras at the age 13/14 and to be conitnued till present day.those blue visions i received was part of my spiritual awakening some would call a kundalini awakening.but however if i am an indigo then those blue visions would make sense...if i am not maybe i picked up something from all around space

I understand mochai...although I get a periodic very loud ring typically in my right ear, occasionally in my left...it lasts for a few seconds...the high-pitched 'frequency' that I have...and my bf describes...is always there, but will change it's tones from time to time...we can make it louder or lower but concentrating on it...I was meditating on it, but things started to get ugly, so I backed off of that!lol We say it's a tracking signal from our planet..hehe
lucie...welcome my dear...my intuition tells me, along with what you have described, that you are more than likely an Indigo...there is lots of info out there, just be careful as to what you read...I feel as if you probably have a strong sense of intuition as well...Glac has posted lots of good info here!

..and another thing mochai..we have noticed that when we have a particular thought, or read, or say something, the ring will start...like a confirmation...just like the clock when it shows an 11 or a 47 for us...

hey blodrivercat!

many thanks for your reply and that you sense me being an indigo...its wicked for me to say this about myself, thanks!!!yes i have read some very intereseting info in here and will look up more detailed info!i would love to watch the movie indigo too, will look in the library if they have it.
i always felt odd throughout my whole life due to the things i have been through.those ringing ears i do have too lately, not always ON but if its ON then it can vary from low to high volume and those notes can also change.but most of my visions and so called ascensionsympotms occured cause of my kundalini awakening.i would say that that specific event rearranged me and gave me more clue about all things spiritual.it was very confusing experience and sometimes i do have symptoms, light symptoms that are similar to that awakening, when those shifts occur,i feel like mochai, heelo mo !walking outside is a good thing for grounding !!!i agree, lets keep on walking and enjoying the beauty of nature.also even if it is not tasty for people, meet is a good grounder too,or red wine, everything with high ironpercentage, saladeleaves as well

Interesting lucie..I was not aware that those things were good for grounding...we rarely eat meat, and don't drink, but eat lots of iron enriched veggies, and love the outdoors....
If I may suggest also...do some research into Starseed traits and characteristics as well...you may be surprised...

yes yes alot of good info out there!i can identify with almost all the traits of an indigo,i had difficult time at school with paying attention,i found it very boring and didnt like some teachers who thought they have the power cause they have the power.starseeds i find interesting topic as well but lol i always felt close to the pleides and now with astrology i also feel connected to sirian energies, however lots is out there in the wide universe and it is very interesting to go behind all of that.but at this moment in time i like to do astrology the most it gives so many clues to anything!

i dont drink, actually i dont like the taste of alcohol and also i try to eat not too much beef, but like you say the iry veggies

what helps me too is meditation!it gives me helpful advise and all the right info i need at a particul moment in time.just mentioned the beef and the RED wine thing cause many people dont know how to ground with food and i went through irondeficiency as a teenager when i refused to eat meat at all.way back then i got dizy and my hair fell out and many weird things...my body couldnt handle life without meat...so cause of health issues i was urged to eat meat...my little add story...not that i say that meat is good but in small portions and from a good source it is ohke to eat from time to time.the kundalini awakening made me very dizzy and ungrounded thats why i learned to ground firmly wether through visualization or though eating well or walking in nature or or or.found out that drinking loads of water is good for grounding too.write this cause i know how hard times one can have if ungrounded,i have experienced all of that.blondriverkat do you also go though shifts?

Wow! That's why they were telling me to eat salad. Only problem is I hate it! I'll have to work that out lol. Thank-you.

I'm still not into the beef thing. Yes it slows down the energies, but you absorb the pain of the animal and I can't say I like that. Tantrics will sometimes recommend root vegetables for grounding, and I did notice a difference when I was eating yams and carrots all the time.

I won't meditate because my kundalini is too strong right now. I shouldn't even be lying in my back..

In some Native American cultures, the people thank the animal before eating the meat.

It really depends on one's belief system and culture.

I read about dolphin eating meat in Japan.

Eating seal meat is the norm in the Inuit culture.

Pork ribs and chitlins are typical foods of African American cuisine aka "Soul Food"

Food Ethics are definitely relative.

i am sorry you have just a hard time,i can imagine...then i guess you have just started with your kundalini, must be horrific!ahm the thing is there is alot of misinformation out there as well in cantrary to all the great wisdom.and well for me meditation slowed down the process quite alot and it enabled me to go through it with ease...so it is not that bad to meditate with kundalini,it is bad to meditate with certain techniques during kundaliniawakening...but meditation is actually very helpful,it slowes down the porcess...but ohke i'll stop here, each must do what feels best.the meat thing yes i agree glaucus...it is not a bad thing!!not if you prepare that meat with your own thoughts,if this makes sense

If and when we do eat meat, we bless it first...my kids are Native American, as a matter of fact, of Mayan descent, as well as Apache, Navajo and Cherokee...my youngest told me a few weeks ago what they did was apologize after killing the animal, then blessing it...he says he has a sense of remembering...that he believes he was an indian warrior of some sort...I wouldn't be surprised...

One of the problems on our planet is how some peoples try to enforce their culture onto other people's.
A lot of condemning of other people's cultures goes on based on what one thinks is right or wrong

moral/ethical condemnation is relative

take for instance this article:

'Blood lust': Canada's G-G eats seal heart

Posted Wed May 27, 2009 4:04pm AEST

Canada's governor-general Michaelle Jean has sparked anger from animal rights groups by gutting a seal carcass and eating a piece of its heart.

The tasting came during the kick-off of festivities for the 10th anniversary of the creation of Canada's northern territory of Nunavut.

Ms Jean knelt above a seal carcass and carved out the meat using a traditional Inuit blade.

After cutting through the flesh she asked if she could try the heart.

She was given a piece and ate it whole, saying afterwards that it was absolutely delicious and tasted like sushi.

Her actions were welcomed by the Inuit but were quickly condemned by international animal rights groups.

One anti-seal hunt campaigner said he was amazed a Canadian official would indulge in such blood lust.

Europe has been moving closer to a total ban on seal products.

Asked if her action was a message to the Europeans, Ms Jean said "take from it what you will".
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/05/27/2582403.htm

The animal rights groups thought she was wrong for eating the seal heart.

The Inuit thought differently. After all, eating seal is big part of their culture.
