LexxI had to get up, worried about you, some thoughts: Hospitals will set up a code system, over the phone cause they are by law not to give info to just anybody. If you are still legally married, which I think you are, this should not be an issue, but you may have to be in person to establish.
Get the help of case managment. Make sure they are monitoring his lactic acid levels; normal lactic acid levels, no sepsis. He should be hooked up to a "CVP" monitor and monitoring his SVO2. They should be monitoring his "anion gap." No anion gap, no more acidosis.... For a gut infection, till they know the specific bug, he should be on Flagyl, IV and a high powered antibiotic like Vancomycin. He should be recieving lots of fluids. Research the above...you are a very smart cookie! t~ IP: Logged |

Bless you hippichick Yes "I think" they are doing all that but not sure because the nurses were nasty to me, and were/are patronizing at best towards my husband. They acted like I was some idiot, and would tell me nothing even when my husband told them it was OK. They would not even look at me. That has been my experiences to date with ICU nurses. I suspect it is maybe because we would not name a fraking religion for their forms. Many are wearing crucifixes. Ran into such religious bigotry in many medical fields. The only one who was nice was a Muslim doctor on night shift. Everyone else was rude to say the least. I saw the look of disgust when we refused to have them put a religion on the charts and all. I guess people wearing all black who do not display a crucifix is bad to some . This hospital does not have a good reputation, but it is only 3 miles away.PS. Yes I am researching it like crazy. I need to understand because after all; I am the one who will be taking care of him once he gets better and is back home with me. IP: Logged |

Update: Glucose stabilizing at 121. Anion gap normal. Potassium been low, doing stronger drip. They are still waiting for the diagnosis of what type of infection. I guess it takes a few days for results. And one of the nurses is being nice to him I guess so that is good.

Yes hippi; thank you so very very very muchly! It is very muchly appreciated.I have a question; We do not have television in our home. At the ICU there is some inconsiderate jerk having it on full blast. Things like that are just one thing that can set off seizures and crippling migraines for my husband. He is disabled because of the migraines and seizures. Yet all they did was give my husband earplugs. Why would someone so sick they need to in ICU be allowed to do that kind of torture to another patient, to be so inconsiderate of the others in ICU? I suffer from post traumatic stress syndrome and I know I would probably go postal if I was stuck in ICU with that. Makes my heart pound and anger and stress skyrocket just thinking of having loud blasting television or music forced upon me. "shudder" IP: Logged |

They have him on Morphene drip now. He is still in ICU. He finally ate for first time in 6 days. There is a new jerk driving him nuts with a tv blaring reality show shite. No one is really communicating with me there. He is still not stable and has to stay in ICU.IP: Logged |

I had work that needed to be done recently and my neighbor said she knew a homeless man (same age as you) that could do it.I needed two guys, so got ahold of him and asked if he had a friend who could help out. They each were expecting $20. I paid them $150 to split. Then hired them the next day and gave them $40 a peice to finish the job. Got what I needed them to get done and payed the same as I would a proffessional. And for two older homeless men, boy, where those two powerhouses!! They worked thier ***** off! I wanted to pay them what I would pay professionals, to do the same job. So, I did. They deserved it. I could not pay them what they though they would get for it - no way. Could I afford that? um...No. Not at all. I need the money for backed up bills, but eff it. I'll pay those bills off slowly. Those guys need it more and they did a hell of a job. Especially for their age. I was very impressed. One guy grabbed me for a hug after I told him what I was giving them for the job and he had tears in his eyes. I feel so sorry for them. The homeless shelters around here charge about $5 per night and usually they are full anyway.
I gave him a backpack and a sleepingbag and canned food too. Don't mean to derail your thread. Just comes to mind because so many people are struggling....each in their own ways...right now. Things will get better for you and hubby Lexx. I just know it. IP: Logged |
