You are whatever identity you have at that time. I never tell my age. And most of my closest friends don't even know what I do for work. I keep it mysterious, and it works for me.------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." They know a lot about me. Well this thread is about the superficialities you refer to and how to deal with a world that regards them as important------------------ To live outside the law you must be honest. Bob Dylan IP: Logged |

perhaps that's part of the process - encouraging society to place less importance on those superficilaties...if i make less of it, those around me may start to do the same...

One thing I have noticed is that if a person feels that I have gone through similar experiences to them, they automatically assume that I am the same age. By giving this impression, I have managed to convince quite a few people of disparate ages that I am their contemporary.------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 IP: Logged |

The problem is that when they read the documentation, or somebody tells them my "real" age, I then feel like a fraudster and the friendship goes bad.------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 IP: Logged |

Why not just say that it's against your beliefs to reveal your age? That is not the way human communication works. People do not go about stating their beliefs etc. in that bald way. Everything is based on assumptions and nuances.------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 IP: Logged |

The thread was about how to square your conscience with the fact that others see you as living a lie. Obviously, if you re not lying in the first place the problem will not arise, but that is not the world I live in.------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 IP: Logged |

I do not find this line of questioning supportive. It is difficult enough being "different" in the normal world, so there is no point in coming to LL to be made to feel "freaky" or abnormal. I post here to communicate with like minds and I am only interested in preaching with the converted. thank you for your interest.------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 IP: Logged |

Maklhouf! Lemme tell you what I do-- I am an actress, so I USE that to dodge the age question. "Oh, darling, one never asks a lady, an especially an actress, her age!" (Said with peals of laughter.) I use humor to deflect. But people have been SO persistent--one woman after a long time asked me when I graduated from high school and I told her because I was tired of it. It definitely takes some creativity, and I do NOT feel I am "lying." I feel it's really none of their business...and a compliment! It's nice to know my "youthing" is working!------------------ I have no sympathy for those afraid of mystery--2pac Shakur, "How Do U Want It" IP: Logged |

And if I am considered a "freak," it is a freak of beauty, so it totally works for me. (I act in movies, and one time I got hired for one thing and then on set, they pulled me in with the "club kids" and I went! Good thing, too, because of that I made the final cut! =)) Plus, people really are taking better care of themselves, so it's not as outre as it would have been in an age where everyone died at 30. Double plus, I audition for a living and could give a good gingersnap (channeling LG there!) what anyone thinks of me. I think THEY are odd for aging...and dying! =) There's a lady on Youtube who is 70 and looks 30. Her diet would be too time-consuming to be practical for me, though. But the idea is really out there in the culture.------------------ I have no sympathy for those afraid of mystery--2pac Shakur, "How Do U Want It" IP: Logged |

maklhouf - no one was trying to make you feel freaky... but i do wonder why you maintain social circles that seem to be so intrusive and disrespectful of your personal wishes... most of us who post here are of like mind and are trying to be supportive but you do seem hell-bent on playing devil's advocate... life is going to be as difficult as you make it out to be... i am sorry if your friendships go badly because you don't disclose every single piece of your life to your peers - are those really the types of people you want to associate with on a regular basis? ------------------ " Some define good as that which preserves, and evil as that which destroys; but destruction can be cleansing and purifying, for there is such a thing in both men and races as spiritual constipation, which comes from too much preservation of the status quo." I had a similar experience, diamond goddess, when a person finally resorted to asking me how old my parents were! Emitres, you seem to forget having posted a number of times that you find the company you keep to be very deathist oriented and uncongenial. ------------------ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places Isaiah 45:3 IP: Logged |
