TWAFD because....I experienced a rather sweet victory at work with on ongoing issue that's been causing us all grief. Finally convinced someone that it's a real and tangible problem, not just bitchin' and moanin' from a bunch of chronic complainers. (which we ARE NOT, TYVM)Anyway, getting the decision makers at head office to acknowledge the problem is the first step to getting it solved, so WHOO-HOO!! *does the Gretzky victory arm crank* IP: Logged |

Gretzky rawks!TWAFD because I finally realized how to get off the phone with a particular dear friend when she's on a rant... and had a good laugh at myself later, because all she wanted me to do was very firmly say, "Things will be just fine" when for years instead, I've been sympathetically saying, "I know," thus prolonging her uncertainty and our phonecalls! What irony, nobody was satisfied for yeeeeears! Ah, me. IP: Logged |

TWAFD b/c I just got 4 free ears of corn. Every Tuesday between 8 am and 12 pm there's a farmer's market set up in a park by the police station in Fairfax City, the problem being that I'm either in work or school straight from 7 am til 11:45 am, placing me on my bike a good bit past noon if I go straight from class. So, I ambled by at about 12:25 and asked those packing up if they were still selling. "Nope, we can't sell past Noon. Sorry." "Aw, dernit. And I just got out of school." "Out of school? You biked here?" "Well, yeah, on my way home." "Here, let me ask her," pointing and then walking over to lady standing a ways away, seeming to supervise. He gesticulated towards me, leading her to come over and say, "No, sorry...we can't sell after noon. Where'd you come from?" "George Mason." "All the way from there? And you live?" "Oh, just down the street a bit." "And what did you want?" "Just 4 ear of corn." "No, sorry, we can't...unless you'd like to give this poor girl 4 ear of corn," half-seriously. The man responded, "Yeah, sure - here, you can take 4 ear of corn." "Just take it?" "Yeah, that way I'm not selling it." As I grabbed them, the lady said, "Can I ask you a question? What's your shirt all about? I saw a young man wearing that yesterday." (Note: I'm wearing my Flippy the Squirrel shirt which Jason & I both have.) "Really? What did he look like?" "Well, um...hmmm. Well, he's my next door neighbor..." "Do you live in Clifton?" "Yes!" "He's my boyfriend!" "He's about to go into the Army? On October 9th?" "Yep! That's him!" "Wow! That's so funny. He and his Mom were out, and he was pulling weeds when I saw him in that shirt. I said, 'So, is your name Flippy?'" "Oh, this is from a website. I was getting it, and he said that he liked it, too, so I got it for him as well. Do you have horses?" "Yep..." "Yep, we always go over and feed them." "Yep, I know," laughing. So... I got free corn from my boyfriend's next-door-neighbor. Wow. I wrote a lot. That's how excited I get about free food.
