as to the queen she has a lot more power(s) than is commonly thought, though she doesn't seem inclined to use them...

AND the english have a little document called the bill of rights that gives the people, as FREE MEN, sovereignty over their own lives, just like our own bill of rights! in fact the american declaration of independence and constitution are modelled quite closely on english rights and agreements.

PlutoSq, what's with the snide remark that Kat's post has something to do with Lara? I don't get it.

You know how BML is really lunar apogee? Well Priapus is lunar perigee, which is almost always opposite lunar apogee, so it's kind of an axis.

I have BML opposite my Sun by less than a degree. I also have Priapus conjunct my Sun by less than a degree (although BML opposes my Sun more exactly than Priapus conjuncts it).

Priapus is a fertility God who was cursed by Hera with a giant peen and no one loved him because it was TOO big lol.

I am going to re-post my original statement with a preface:

If AMERICANS KNEW who these elitists were, that they were IN FACT operating under the control of an elitist group and this was brought to the public's eyes in a provable manner... people would go APE Sh!t.

Well, I would be extremely upset to have my security and life uprooted over an elitist group that has its own special interests at heart - and no concern for my own personal liberties and rights.

I would not want to live in a society that caters to an aristocrasy. I think most Americans would agree.

as to diana, anyone who actually fancied prince charles by definition had some sort of emotional/mental problem if you ask me. zero pulling power except for his position in life ! and i met him so i can speak to the physical/mental chemistry aspect firsthand.

she was bulimic. this is not the behaviour of balanced individuals. whether she had reason to be unbalanced because of the position she found herself in, i don't know. i always thought she was sweet but dumb as they come, and if she thought being the princess of wales was going to be a walk in the park she should have known better. the spencers have been involved in the "royal game" for a long, long time.

MVM,

It wasn't a snide comment. That was a direct comment based on observation. I don't think I'm wrong about my "conspiracy theory" in that regard, either.

Nazis sure did use it to justify extermination. And people ate it up.

And frankly, I don't like to conflate all of German history with one government. Germany has had multiple governments. The Hapsburg rule of Germany is not the same as the Weimar Republic.

pluto squared your little dig at me shows just how deep your intellect is. the fact that i appreciate lara has nothing to do with anything i said. except in your mind. the fact that i have lived in england and mixed with people of the class she is talking about means i know what she is talking about, full stop. commoners and royals do not in general mix very well. usually it is the commoner who falls apart under the circumstances. so they tend not to make very good candidates for the job.

america has been run by a select few with special interests FOREVER and anyone with a couple of hours to study would come across them, it was my 8th grade history teacher who first pointed it out to me. the fact that they don't necessarily advertise the fact doesn't change things one bit.

the fact that those special interests are becoming BLATANT is a good thing, though the danger of demoralization is always there. a lot of conspiracy theorists ruin their pitch by going too far, but most of the facts they deal in are REAL. it's the conclusions that tend to be wrong or overdone...

lol Kat, I'm reminded of a show in the UK when I was a kid called Spitting Image, where they had muppet-like characters (I think they did the same show later in the US and called it DC Follies or something), and in one sketch they protrayed Diana as this sort of silly cute blond puppet with a lolly, but even then it wasn't nearly as bad as other figures I'd seen in the show.

I dunno I just remembered that...

Hey, Katatonic... it's fine. Keep your tea parties limited to your elite group, and with Lara.

I promise, I won't feel left out.

I enjoy my freedom just fine on "this side of the pond".

And whether or not you find me to be an intellectual? I can't say I give a damn.

Just because Lara and Kat like each other doesn't mean they always agree. I love Lara and I don't always agree with her either.

She does know what she's talknig about as far as 'class' goes. The US is not class oriented like the UK is, and I also lived in the UK but know this specifically from being raised in Egypt and Kuwait which really are not so different either. You marry and mingle according to your class, period. It's not 'weird' because the gap between classes was always very wide and they had little in common.
These days in places like Egypt the true upper and middle classes are fading and being replaced with the new money, which has actually been quite bad for the politics and religious climate in the country. Class does matter in certain places. Even countries trying to 'embrace' the US concept of meritocracy are seeing all kinds of new problems which are popping up as a result. Not because it's 'wrong' but because it's a new concept and it has to uproot history and a lot of old structures in the process.
The new money has brought big ol' malls and McDonald's to Egypt and I can assure you this is not something I find very comforting. Yes, they chose it, but all these big fast food places are choking the culture out of the country. And all this is because the concept of 'equal class' is becoming popular. It's not always going to go over well in other places.

EDIT: Sorry I know this doesn't have to do with 'royalty' but I just thought it might be pertinent since it still deals with class separation.

PS..no one asked you to come here putting people down. i said nothing that had anything to do with lara, it is you who seems to have a bee in your undies about her. i don't appreciate attack parties but i really think your insistence that we have no aristocracy here naive. many of the founding fathers were related to aristocracy and royalty, and our "leaders" still are today. even if there were no blood connection the money would substitute here where "money talks, nobody walks"...but rich americans were actually courted in 19th/20th centuries by aristocrats with vast estates and no money to keep them going! so the actual family ties were renewed and widened. there is precious little difference between american and english in that sense.

you love your freedom do you? good for you. just remember that on the books of this lovely country are no end of laws that can take it from you in a second. not least the new HOMELAND SECURITY and AIRLINE SECURITY provisions which invade your privacy even though there are plenty of efficient ways to do their job without entering your phone line, house or person. going on holiday? fancy a few x-rays every time you do? did anyone ask you if this was okay??

* * * *

MVM spitting image was one of the best shows ever...and yes as i recall diana was restricted to one phrase "okay, yah!" a dig at her "sloane ranger" ways...

I loved Spitting Image (when I could watch it). You just brought to mind Genesis' Land of Confusion video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZtWABLuWHo

I loved their puppet of a magician called Paul Daniels - his hair was always running away from his head (from what I remember ).

Sorry, totally off-topic.

I think it's sad that people on this board are putting down another country , an entire culture, because they don't 'like' the concept of royalty. It's just history and yet it's sad to see how people are attacking it. It's tradition. People in the UK can be very sentimental about their royalty at heart...it's part of the structure. You can mock it all you like, but really, it's pretty sad to mock something just because you don't 'approve' of it or like it or understand it.

I would probably be the last person to put down another country for subscribing to a monarch since I live between two starkly contrasted cultures in custom and mentality (my relatives actually follow a Monarch, believe it or not, a very shifty one..albeit). I'm just annoyed of people spouting anything around here and expecting us to swallow it without question. If Amowls can take the time to cite things when asked, why can't Lara?

America is definitely not perfect in terms of distribution, power, wealth, etc....but ummm, the Queen? Yeah, I'll still need that proof.

MVM, LOL Spitting Image was fantastic! haha
The puppet for that ruddy red-headed labour mutt called Kinnock was just so brilliant!

I remember Diana licking a lolly. A reference to giving good head l guess in true Spitting Image fashion!

Katatonic, l know that you wouldn't agree with me unless you understood what l said and your posts are .
There is so much resentment in people when one speaks of commoners and royalty that it's almost impossible to not hit people's 'buttons' and draw out snidey comments laced with ignorant and jealous tones.
At the end of the day, thank **** we have our sense of humour to laugh our way to bed.

Goodnight to both you cool dudes

unfortunately americans are raised to deride "class consciousness" so successfully they barely realize how entrenched it is.

FDR and eleanor roosevelt, by the way, were a good deal closer than DISTANT cousins. they even had the same birth surname. and their connections to the upper classes in europe were very strong too. doesn't mean they were "snobs" but how likely is it, PLUTO SQUARED, that you would ever even MEET FDR, let alone spend time in his social circle? what's the difference? money and breeding keep these people apart, for the most part, from the rest of us. ross perot couldn't buy the presidency...OR win it. wonder why? he was right about a LOT of things. but he was political and social POISON . to the ruling class.

Oh, Katatonic... don't insult my intelligence and then tell me it's the "bee in my panties" that's giving me an issue. I have no personal issues with Lara. In fact, I think she's very entertaining.

You are innappropriate and arrogant on the approach. I just called it quick.

Otherwise, have fun spouting off with your illuminati stories and aristocracy and other blah, blah, blahs...

I'm sure you've got a trusted group of sycophants to entertain at your tea party. Don't let me keep you
