Hi AG,
You have asked very specifically and clearly, which is very admirable than an ignorant write off that 32/40 successful outcomes is not valid.

I will clarify. The question is not about Aphrodite aspect anything. The question is whether any Asteroid theme is useful at all.

For this, I took a sample of 40 cases of Sun conjunct Aphrodite. Not more than 2 degree orb.

Celebrities, friends, relatives, contacts.

I took 12 themes.

1. Beauty/Attraction, Fine Arts
2. Corporate Business
3. Religiousness
4. Entrepreneurship
5. Fastidiousness
6. Physical Strength
7. Science-Technology/Computer Skills
8. Real Estate Craze
9. Social Service/Self Sacrifice Craze
10. Crime/Sociopath/Psychopath
11. Foreigner/Foreign Culture/Travel Craze
12. Occult/Magic/Hard Core Spirituality

The theme that most strongly defines that person to me, as an observer, is ticked.
Not that the other themes cannot ever be present. But the one projected the most strongly is ticked.

32/40 such candidates had Beauty, Attraction and associated fine arts themes as number one. This helps me associate Aphrodite with theme number 1.

1/12, 32/40. Very much flawless to me ...BUT you can argue that this is a subjective assessment. That only IQ thinks the person is gorgeous, in the eyes of others she can be a scheming psychopath or a selfless martyr etc etc etc.

But if you apply that reasoning, then by that yardstick even Planetary Astrology has no basis. See, I used Sun conjunct APHRODITE because I believe in planetary Astrology, about how the Sun is the core "Light" of the personality. An astrology skeptic would refute my observation saying the Sun in astrology itself has no value.

If you tell me "Pi", I will say 3.1416
thats my subjective mind. Another bloke will INSIST upon hearing Pi that it is blueberry or Apple. If this were in a civilization that does not know geometry, I would be harassed for asserting Pi is 3.1416;

Insights/Enlightenment is subjective. You can never understand Kundalini until you feel the absic psychic energy in the body.

You cannot understand an Asteroid theme insight unless you "feel" the themes' in your own life experience.

For those who are 49% convinced of Asteroids:

The 23 Synchronicity of Norman Robert Pogson:
============================================
Pogson was a British astronomer who headed the Chennai Observatory in India for 30 years.

He was born March 23 1829.

He died June 23 1891.

He discovered Asteroid ISIS on May 23 1856. This was his first asteroid discovery.

An asteroid was named after him in the 20th century and given the number 1830. In his birth chart, this asteroid "Pogson" is found on 23 degrees Scorpio!

Other notable points:
On the day of his discovery of Asteroid Isis,
the asteroid DISCOVERY was on 13 Pisces, Asteroid TALENT was on 12 Pisces. His Natal ASteroid KARMA was also on 12 Pisces and transit Asteroid YES was exactly trine asteroid POGSON and best of all, transit ISIS was exactly trine transit POGSON.
This proves beyond any probability the importance of asteroids and the mysterious connection of Higher Selves in carefully inspiring the naming of asteroids because asteroid POGSON was still undiscovered when the real Pogson was discovering Isis!

============================================

And now if you are 50% convinced: http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum24/HTML/000782.html

well i am a skeptic but i use asteroids ALL THE TIME. how else does one resolve their skepticism than to work with the question?

i find they are uncanny in BACKING UP or AUGMENTING the planetary picture.

and as we prepare to go out into space - this is so close i can taste it now - we are beginning to see just how much is out there from right here on earth.

once you go beyond the naked eye and earthbound existence, you start noticing more and more details. that is what asteroids are...!!

does the fact that all colours come from mixing the primaries stop you using pink or brown or orange??

Is this thread really important?
Yes. Fun, too.

Asteroids bring with them questions and challenges - Which ones matter for me? For you? How do we interpret them? How do they even work? What does that tell me about how astrology works? For such tiny things, asteroids bring us to THE big magic in life - the connection between the material and the spiritual.

So yeah, asteroids bring some hermeneutical and ontological challenges. But they're worth the effort if they aren't nonsense!

If asteroids are nonsense, then they won't tell our story. They'll fall in our charts in ways that lack meaning or coherency. Their distribution will be random.

Granted, we always run the risk of seeing order where no pattern actually exists. But that's a risk with everything, from traditional astrology to life in general. That doesn't mean we chalk up any patterns we do find to being just our imagination.

Why I Believe Asteroids Aren't Nonsense

I'll start with asteroids that name something important in my life.

1. Say my name...

Every man I've had sex with has his own name asteroid. In my chart, those asteroids all form 0 degree conjunctions or oppositions with my Nodes, Pluto, or Saturn.

First: 0 degree cnj/opp - slim mathematical odds that every asteroid would behave the same! The same behavior implies the asteroids exist within the same category, My Lovers.

Second: pattern has a personality - the names always link with an evolutionary/karmic part of myself.

Third: pattern's personality matches my experience - that is what love relationships feel like for me.

2. The rain in Spain...

My SO and I visited a city in Spain for the first time 7 years ago. "Deja vu" doesn't do the experience justice. The experience was surreal, enchanting, and mystical. Everything outside us slipped away. I was still me. He was still him. But it was like who we really are to one another was lay bare. Vows were urgently promised, things that until then we hadn't even realized were the essence of what we both needed from one another.

This city has its own asteroid. I'm going to refer to it simply as SPAIN.

If asteroids are nonsense, Spain should be randomly placed. If asteroids are relevant, Spain should reflect what that experience was like.

Every aspect I list is 0 degrees, minus the one exception noted.

In our natals:
I have SPAIN in my 1st house cnj my 8th house ruler.
He has SPAIN in his 7th house opp his 8th house ruler. (2 deg.)
We both have SPAIN cnj our Sun/Asc mp.

In synastry:
my KARMA is cnj his Vertex/SPAIN mp.
his KARMA is opp my Vertex/SPAIN mp.
(Two asteroids!)

Natally I have:
Chiron = Pluto/SPAIN
Neptune = Venus/SPAIN

Natally he has:
Pluto = Saturn/SPAIN
Vertex = Nodes/SPAIN
Moon = Sun/SPAIN

Plus my SPAIN NN is opp his SPAIN SN.

^BTW, the guy I lost my virginity to has a name asteroid and it has no significant relationship to my chart.

The guy I sleep with now doesn't have a name asteroid tho.

I love HOT TEA; I drink it every single day. Asteroid TEA is in my 5th house trine Chiron.

In all seriousness, Now that I'm thinking about it..

Can someone tell me how a bunch a tiny rocks/matter floating around in space can have a relationship to a certain theme in our lives?

I know astrology works but still...

And who names the asteroids and why/how?

Good question. That's what it all comes down to, right? Not just asteroids, but planets too. A causal connection between our consciousness and the solar system at the time of our first breath is laughable.

Most people into astrology say it works on the basis of synchronicity. As above, so below.

But for the solar system to be a literal metaphor for human consciousness, wouldn't both have to be coming from the same source? Cause and effect are within the material world. Symbolism is within the spiritual/mental world.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

I understand the symbols and everything, but what I don't understand is how people name the asteroids and all of a sudden the theme can be found in a natal chart.

You know what I mean? Who named the Aphrodite asteroid and how did they choose that name for this particular asteroid?

Sry I know nothing about this process.

Yes, and the asteroid for the 1 woman I had sex with doesn't follow the pattern I have with the guys.

With that guy - does his asteroid describe what he was in your life? Sign, house. Even the lack of aspects might fit with how you experienced him, as someone not strongly integrated with who you really are.

^ I thought of this too and his name falls in my 11th alone.

He made no significant print on me. It was very easy to move on; took like a couple weeks even though he wanted to be with me after that.

But was he a friend? Yes. He was a coworker though, that's how we met.

Oh, I have my name asteroid in the first house

Do you?

I know next to nothing about this process.

From an astrologer's pov, there are no accidents. The astronomers had their own reasons for the names they chose. Whatever their personal reason - to honor themselves or someone else, to describe the asteroid/planet, etc - doesn't matter.

Jane,

I was thinking the same.

All of this are relevant questions, but they apply to planets, too.
Who named the planets?
Why do they reflect our life on earth?

I think NAMES matter less when it comes to the planets though. They are bodies that have already been proven to impact life on earth right?

But asteroids? I'm unable to see the relationship they have just because an astrologer decided to name one Aphrodite.

It`s the same.
Planets have been named and used for interpretation based on mythology and then of course proven just the same way as astrologers do now with asteroids.

And no, planets do not have an impact on earth. (Unless we are talking about Sun and Moon, which are not even planets, strictly spoken).

WELL Pluto isn't a planet anymore. As for the rest, I'm not sure... But if science says no, then I say no too. But this is complicated because Science cannot prove everything.

That's why I asked but my goodness! We are sitting here vouching that Saturn's placement during the time of birth impacts us on Earth, And IT DOESN'T.

Ok.

It's this reason that Astrology is usually written off as nonsense to any human being with at least a minimal level of intelligence.

But I was watching the history channel and it was about the Mayans. Scientists were explaining that even though they were not scientifically advanced, the skills they had with astrology gave them lots of benefits; it was their lifestyle.

Unfortunately, in today's age, we cannot merely rely upon intuition like some older civilizations did; We have advanced too much.

*sighs*

Maybe I should clarify how I see astrology working in my opinion. Of course you are entitled to your own.

I donīt think that any "rock in space", no matter if asteroid or planet, has a physical impact on earth (except for Sun and Moon).

What I believe is what Jane hinted at. I believe in synchronicity. I believe that the movement of the planets above our heads somehow reflect our life on earth. Almost like a language, which only describes what is happening, but not creates it.
They are not MAKING something happening, they just show, what is already happening. Like a clock does not make time, but only shows it.

No, I can NOT prove this. It is my opinion, as I said.
Why I believe that? That astrology works?
Because repeating pattern (in the sky) seem to have similiar effects (here on earth).

After a certain number of "coincidences", it just does not seem to be coincidental anymore.

Of course it still is a good question if we have uncovered the right pattern that really is the indicator of the effects we observed. Maybe there were other patterns working in the background,t hat we did not even see.

That is why research is needed. Much research. But quite honestly spoken only very few members here are interested in that. It is work, it is tedious sometimes, it demands focus, dedication and patience.
And as I see it most here just want a quick free reading of their charts.

But to find out IF something works, you have to do that. Researching dozens and hundreds of charts, like IQ did in miraculous detailed work.
Or like Paul Westran did with his over 1000 examples of relationships, their coming together and falling apart.

Unless you are prepared to do this or at least read it, you will never know if something works or not.

Now, WHY it works, that is a completely different question. I do not have an answer to that. I don`t know why.

BTW I was using a generic "You", I was not meaning you personally.

^^^ But wouldn't there be too many bodies in charts/synastry to show that a relationship had succeeded or failed because of a certain pattern?

Wouldn't there be enough stuff to work with, in order to find something one way or another?

It's just interesting to me, as I said with those women I posted about earlier. They do not have any Goddess asteroid on their Sun, but as you can see are quite well known and stunning.

Now maybe if all of them had this connection I would buy it, but sadly there is no pattern to me with the likes of Aphrodite conjunct Sun or any other 'beauty' asteroid on the natal sun. Either that or I didn't look close enough.

Ok quiz question.. because I am sitting here a bit shocked at some of the things I'm reading.

Question: - How do the planets interact? WHAT is the physical force that keeps the Universe TOGETHER - that keeps large masses of matter TOGETHER and interacting?
