My point is, maybe she REALLY wasn't teasing, you just caught her off guard? I'm not there but you might be jumping the gun. Having this idea in your mind that your neighborhood is full of women whose main goal is to pull a prank on you is not reasonable. Women typically don't flirt with men they aren't attracted to at all. If you are getting flirtation, consider it's something genuine. quote: Originally posted by aquaguy91: When this happens to me I think of it like that really mean-spirited joke where someone asks you to come sit by them and pulls the chair out from under you at the last second so you fall on your a**. That's how you think of it but that doesn't mean that's how the women perceived it. IP: Logged |

Aw thanks for the birthday wishes Funny how I don't feel old. You kids will understand this eventually...your body feels pretty much the exact same as when you were a teenager (if you stay healthy. I think Violets and I have.) So it's just plain weird racking up the numbers. IP: Logged |

Ohhh I was thinking "kiddie preachers" like those videos 7th Guardian posted.#Impressionable Religious people usually don't offend me. I find it easy to disagree with them politely, maybe because I was a Calvinist and can use some big words on the offensive, banking on the fact that they won't know the meanings any more than I do, really. "I used to be like you-- a premillenial eschatologist. But that was before I read John Knox's treatise on..." blah blah blah. IP: Logged |

Well... Here's the way I see it... If a woman is advertising herself to me she shouldn't be surprised if I "come into the store". The only logical explanation I can think of is she must not be serious if she is shocked when I act on her flirtation. The fact is I do not know what is really going on in womens minds when they do these things. I only know how their actions impact me and how they make me feel. And honestly it makes me angry. I'm not interested in the "what ifs". I'm only interested in what I know to be true and real. IP: Logged |

Whoops I spoke too soon.I'm speaking about what I know to be true and real as well, though. 1) Women don't flirt for no reason 2) Timing and approach are *important* 3) Women often say no the first time (case in point: the Obamas) not because they want to make a fool out of you but because they don't have enough information to work with. I grant you it's tricky and would never want to ask anyone out myself....... *scans memory to see if I ever asked anyone out* No, I don't think I did. So you have my sympathy, as this is a game I never really had to play. Then again, most of the time when I got together with a guy we were already friends and just got closer and closer and never had any discussion about the transitions we were making. Which, for me, was my preferred way of doing things. I should be going to bed. Thanks everyone for the conversation ttyl IP: Logged |

Eh...religious people only bother me if I feel that they're hypocritical AND pompous. That will do it. Or if I feel that they're even politely shoving their beliefs at me. That goes for spiritually minded people as well, if they offer too much unsolicited advice. I don't have the memory that you, Bella, and PD have (I do when it comes to recalling conversations verbatim, or anything that has to do with analyzing people...but that's it), and I don't read as much as I used to (thank you, internet and Neptune). So I can't debate as calmly, except by pointing out the obvious (y'know, what one would presume would be obvious, but apparently is not). Sometimes rudely, but only after I've been sufficiently irritated. IP: Logged |

G'night, Birthday Gal! ...I don't know if I ever feel like they're directly insulting me (I haven't been around anyone like that for a while, anyway). More like just being a little bit preachy about things I suspect they know absolutely nothing about (and neither do I, for that matter...I mean, who does? But that's just my opinion, like a million others). ANYWAY...I hope you have an absolutely wonderful day with the people you love the most, doing the things you enjoy the most. Lots of love to you tonight, and Happy Solar Return. IP: Logged |

Ugh. I really need to spend less time in here. Talking or reading about controversial stuff that I normally don't try to talk about (I DO things to support the causes I believe in, in my own personal life) exhausts my energy. Also, I just spend too much time in here.I need to slowly back away from the LL now... Anyway, Happy Birthday again to you, Faith. IP: Logged |

OMG I'm late for Faith's birthday party! Damn that time zone difference... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Ok on that discussion on film fights vs. real ones: Aquaguy is of course right that film fights are mostly utterly unrealistic. They are typically elaborate choreographies and resemble a dance (which nevertheless requires a lot of skill to do well). Tournament fighting is more realistic but still far removed from street fights because it's about sport, not life and death, and therefore there are all kinds of rules to ensure fairness and protect the participants' health, and people who violate them are usually disqualified. This means that a strategy that may allow you to win a tournament could lead you to lose in a street fight in which there are no rules. Actual street fights are typically over very quickly and wouldn't look "good" on screen. About the size/weight of fighters... Well, this is easy to answer because the laws of physics basically hold the solution. Fighting is basically two bodies using kinetic energy to affect each other. The amount of kinetic energy one can bring to the punch depends on the bodies' mass and velocity:
quote: (Wikipedia)In classical mechanics, the kinetic energy of (...) a non-rotating rigid body depends on the mass of the body as well as its speed. The kinetic energy is equal to the mass multiplied by the square of the speed, multiplied by the constant 1/2. ... (This means that) Since the kinetic energy increases with the square of the speed, an object doubling its speed has four times as much kinetic energy.
Momentum is also dependent on mass and velocity: here, the formula is p (momentum) = m (mass) * v (velocity). So, if one guy is much heavier than the other, this means the smaller guy would have to be a hell of a lot faster to compensate, and the human physique puts certain limits on that. Moreover, a tall guy typically has longer arms too, therefore his punch can in effect reach the other before the other touches him. That's why there a weight classes in tournaments and boxing matches, to eliminate this factor from the competition and focus on technical skill.
--- Those personality type descriptions are eerily accurate in my case BTW - people complain about the exact same behavior patterns described there so I guess there's something to it. The above answer is probably a good example of a INTP take on such a question. Precisely for the reasons given in that description, I can't make a bet on the outcome of a fight aquaguy91 vs. Bruce Lee because there's essential data missing - I've never seen aquaguy fight and don't take self-reporting as a substitute for empirical observation. Hence, I'll have to refrain from making a guess who would win IP: Logged |

Thanks to you, too, Vajra. And I love the answer you gave to that question! When I read the article I posted about your type, "The Architect," I didn't see anything negative-- nothing anyone would complain about. You may be referring to other readings on the same type...but I'm re-reading the one I posted. Hmm. quote: The INTP is suspicious of assumptions and conventions, and eager to break apart ideas that others take for granted. INTPs are merciless when analyzing concepts and beliefs, and hold little sacred. They are often baffled by other people who remain loyal to ideology that doesn't make logical sense.
I guess that would annoy some people (?) but I actually enjoy this kind of rigor very much. Maybe because I have three of the four letters in common with you

It's the stalemate that's tiring. With me and AG, it's like two people speaking to either side of a brick wall between us. "Hey can you HEAR me over there?" "I'm not listening!" "Okay I'll say it again!" "Not listening! Not agreeing!" "How bout ONE MORE time!?" IP: Logged |
