I wish you were all here to dine with me on this impromptu AG Appreciation Day. I'm sipping on strawberry lemonade waiting for the Thai Lemongrass Soup, which will be followed by some Pad Thai with chicken. I'm excited!

Thanks Jwhop.

How's your dad doing this week, AG??

Sore, but happy to be home.

btw, kudos for your response to someone a few pages ago -- I'm prone to calling such actions "blanketing the forums like smog"

So thankful our canned-hambits problem has gone away again. By any name that kind of behavior is just beyond annoying.

ABC, my dinner was quite good.

God help the kids that have to sing this song. I'm plugging the written piano music into a program I have (I should tell you that while I know the mechanics of reading music, I don't practice it), and whoever wrote this is/was on crack. First off, they wrote it out poorly. Instead of designating the key at the beginning they use a combination of sharps, flats, and naturals in the notation, which is completely unnecessary and a lot of times counter-intuitive. I won't go into that because it would fly over most people's heads.

Worse though, is the primary point I'm getting at, which is that this piece gets rather frenzied at times, and it takes you through a series of Christmas lyrics and melodies where the lyrics don't always go with their proper melodies (and the melody may go out of key, which is going to throw off whoever's trying to sing this). As an example, over the classic Nutcracker riff the lyrics are:

Joy to the world
Five golden rings
I saw three ships
We are three kings

I want to continue ranting, but I think that without a frame of reference you may not understand. I think it's been too deconstructed, and become too abstract to be the witty piece I'm sure it is intended to be.

My poor improv teacher is going to have to teach her class this for some winter production. God help her...and I hope she gets a piano player, because they are going to have to go over this one several times in depth in order to have a chance at pulling it off.

It's called The Most Famous Carols Of All by M. Carleton, J. Fitzgerald & W. Knapp (2003).

I'm not missing Design Star this week. It's on right now, AND it's the little white rooms challenge they do each season. Love it.

I just got my performance review.

My manager had to create an extra category to keep the evaluation fair. She said that while I don't produce the highest output my accuracy is excellent (so she created the "Accuracy" part of the review to reflect that). I'll take it.

That Describe Yourself in Three Pictures thread might have uncovered something for me.

My first picture is of a modern design living room. I do relate to that. It's clean and precise. It's comfortable without too much sentimentality (maybe even less sentimentality than I possess, which is good if you don't want to be bogged down by it).

What I may have revealed to myself through that picture is that maybe I am actually a neat freak, even if I'm not practicing. I know from previous experience that I do enjoy perfecting things in my life. It's good to know this, because maybe now I will give more regard to that part of my nature. I'm thinking that maybe I should put a lot of effort into creating my living space, so that it becomes a point of pride like stuff like quitting smoking and living on a budget have in the past.

LOL.
I didn't post on describe in 3 pics, and we both know why,
but curiously, I didn't post on describe yourself in 3 words either! I had hit reply and sat there staring like an idiot. Then I asked for help from those flitting around me. HA, they were no help.
You see, this is where that Libra stuff comes in, I should'nt of been undesisive about this. If you asked me before, I would have thrown three words out there like rocks in a stream, now I'm all libra-ey, and can't make up my mind. Dang astrology lessons.

p.s. Best wishes for your Dad, and congrats on your acting review.

You forgot how to post pics already? Zala put up some instructions in that thread, if you want to re-learn.

My review was a work review. Your calling it an "acting" review sounds like it's for theater work.

That three word thread was tough. I can't be limited to three!

OH! I read 'performance review' and thought of the improv, theater stuff. Sorry. What do you do, btw? I've never asked you that before!

I didn't necessarily forget how to post pics, I still have to have someone here, because my patience level is low, but those are pics in my camera or ones that are stored in photobucket. I have no idea where you guys get all those gorgeous pics from. I'll re-read the thread and see if I can do it.

Okay, so challenge, describe yourself in as many words as you would like.......

I work at a bank. I'm a "funder," which sounds more important than it is. I type all day...well, all morning anyway. In the afternoon the job changes a bit, and it's not so much data entry. But that's why the Accuracy section was added to our reviews, because some people are fast and innaccurate, and I'm slower but very accurate.

Answer to challenge: ...

That's as many words as I like. Everyone reveals themselves in their words and works all the time. I don't really see the benefit of devoting that much time to try to convey everything about myself.

You revolutionary, You!
A new category because of you.

I used to work in finance (bank then an investment/insurance firm) before being a muso, but we were probably those guys you hated, that gave you stuff to type out because I used to be in sales, i.e. saw clients all day, i.e. stole clients from other banks... Yeah, it used to be dirty. LOL Hated it! Speaking bull all day is tiring. I sometimes wished that I didn't have to deal with clients, like be in Marketing or something. 'Sucked!

My work is all mortgage related data entry, so probably not. We're a warehouse lender, which is kind of an odd middleman creditor for mortgage lenders. We front the money for their loans fast, and then send the loans on to the investors our clients have set up. We make little administrative fees on the loans, and then also make money on interest (for the time the loan is unsettled), but it's all about volume more than anything.

I see what you mean. That's a whole other department altogether. They call it Home Loans here in South Africa. I've never worked there so I am not sure how it works, or what the equivalent of your side of things is here.

Is your department as cut-throat as mine was. There were even stories of espionage where I worked, but all before my time. It was the funniest thing ever! I didn't understand the big deal because I was not from the operations side of things. Financial services providers have, to my knowledge, one of the highest levels of security. Getting into the building was a mission, especially if you had any electronics on you., i.e. laptops, camera, etc. Where I worked at least. It reminded me of the airport.

Also, the systems allowed us that worked there too much freedom with people's info. Just by knowing a person's name I could access their financial history, spending habits, etc. and pretty much know where they use their bank cards, i.e. I could, if I wanted to, know where they shop, eat out, and of course, the residential address is the first thing on the screen... if a person banked with us. Scary!

It is one of the reasons I do not date bank employees. They would know more than I am willing to tell.

That was when I first started. Then as I worked upward, I worked less with the data and dealt more with people.

I never did have the time to check people's accounts though, or the desire to, except those that I was about to sell something to. I am actually surprised that I never did that because I have a wonky moral compass at times. I wouldn't have put it pass me.

So, with a full time job, you have time for improv and music? Wow! I was so tired after coming back from work that I could do nothing else, especially because I also schmoozed clients after 5, because they worked during the day. did a lot of driving too...

In mortgage banking it's pretty much a standard office environment without any special security as far as bringing in electronic devices. Security is an issue when it comes to company laptops, and protecting people's private information.

Since my office is in the ghetto, my co-workers aren't the typical office fare. Between my last bank, and this one, it's a night and day difference. I went from a place where everyone was generally content and well mannered to a place that is b!tchy and unprofessional. Two of my co-workers, a Taurus and a Virgo, have been there four years, and have nothing good to say about it. Never received a raise in that time either.

So, I'm happy to have a job in this economy, but it $ucks and I don't really have to like it (there's no reward in that).

Oh, and I live to play , so of course I find the time for it. I also want to add yoga to my off-time adventures now. I think it's a good idea in general, and with my dad's recent trouble it kind of brings into focus an area I can do better in.
