I recently had to answer where my name came from, and while that was a long entry I'll try to condense it here:

My name came from the necessity of picking a name. I didn't anticipate that I'd be using it for years.

I've been playing music since I was 12 or so, which means I've been playing for more than half my life. I've played guitar since I was 18. I am not, in fact, a guitar god. Never really aspired to be as much, however, I do think I could pull it off if I wanted to.

Here's the chart:

I'd post a photo, but I'd like to get a more recent one. I've been meaning to get around to that lately.

Look who joined the party.

*No guitar here, either. Which is kind of a lie. I have a guitar, and I love acoustic guitar, but no freaking idea at all how to play and when I try to learn my fingers protest.

Hey AG, I was wondering if you do any home recording and if so, what software and setup you use.

I'm trying to not spend more than $400 on software and possibly an interface (for sound variety and ease of operation).

Sorry if I'm exploiting your personal thread, but there seems to be no other possible recording musicians here, so I didn't think my question warranted it's own thread.

That's cool.

I have ACID Music Studio 6, Ableton 5, and Reason 3.0. ACID's honestly the easiest to use of the three (Reason's not really recording software in the regular sense). There's definitely better recording software out there, but the results from this program are pretty satisfying.

I took this song: http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=895138&t=8389

And created my own music for it borrowing the tracks from the original artist: http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?PID=928311&t=4326

And I guess I only show you that in order to illustrate that an amateurish recording can be made professional sounding with this software.

Cakewalk's Sonar looks fairly comparable (but may be better): http://www.cakewalk.com/

Yeah, I've been checking out Cakewalk SONAR. Their "SONAR Home Studio 7 XL" product looks really nice at only $159. I wonder what benefits SONAR 8 offers over SONAR 7 at twice the price...

Because of so much hype around ProTools, I've also been checking out ProTools 7.4/8.0, but I don't see what is so special.

My DJ buddy says Cubase is lame, and recommends Apple's Logic.

Ableton 7 is now available but it's $389 for the standard product, and that would max out the budget I've alotted myself, and kill my idea of adding an outboard MIDI interface.

Thanks AG, I'll definitely look further into Cakewalk SONAR.

Yeah, I've got an external E-Mu soundcard from Creative. Sonar does look intriguing. I might have to look into that myself. I wonder if it's more efficient than my ACID. I upgraded to 2 gigs of RAM, but it's still a little dicey when it has to process a lot of information at once.

I do like rock, and not just music-wise. I like names that mean rock like Peter. I've even used the name Rock in an online community I used to belong to (Second Life; I was Rock Psaltery, which of course appealed to my sense of word play).

I'm pretty certain: Nebraska and Wyoming
Probably Montana and Utah
Others that I can't cite specifically, because I can't remember. We drove from Southern California to Rhode Island and back at the end of my 8th grade year. We took different routes going and coming back.

ROFL bm. I was just about to ask AG to direct me to the thread with that "Bercedes" line. It's an absolute cracker. Actually, I think it's the funniest thing on-site.
